This wikiHow teaches you how to reset the Apple ID password used to access iCloud services.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Reset Remembered Password
Step 1. Visit the Apple ID website
Click the link provided or type appleid.apple.com into the search field of a web browser that is already connected to the internet.
Step 2. Enter the old Apple ID and password
Type both entries into the appropriate labeled fields.
Step 3. Click or touch “➲”
It's to the right of the "Password" field.
If you have two-step verification turned on, touch or click the "Allow" button on another device, then enter the six-digit code in the field on the screen
Step 4. Click or tap Change Password…
It's on the left side of the window in the " Security " section.
Step 5. Enter the old password
Type the password into the column above in the dialog box.
Step 6. Enter the new password
Type the new password in the appropriate field, then re-enter the password entry in the next field.
- Passwords must be at least 8 characters long (including numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters), without spaces. Password entries must not have the same three characters in a row (“ggg”), or the same as the Apple ID and password that was used last year.
- Check the box " Sign out devices and websites using my Apple ID ” to increase security. With this option, you can remember sites and devices that need updating, and are prompted to enter a new password when logging in to ID.
Step 7. Click or tap Change Password…
It's in the lower-right corner of the dialog box. Now, you need to sign in to iCloud using the new password.
Method 2 of 2: Reset Forgotten Password
Step 1. Visit iforgot.apple.com
Use the link provided or type iforgot.apple.com into a web browser.
You can access this site from a desktop or mobile web browser
Step 2. Enter your information
Type in the first name, last name, and email address associated with the Apple ID.
Step 3. Click or tap Next
Step 4. Verify the date of birth
Enter your date of birth to get your Apple ID password.
Step 5. Determine the identity verification method
You can get login information by email, or by answering two security questions.
- If you wish to obtain this information by email, it will be sent to your currently active email address, as well as another email address associated with your Apple ID.
- If you want to answer a security question, you will be asked to answer two questions that are predefined on your Apple ID.
Step 6. Reset password
If you want to answer a security question, you will be asked to create a new password for the ID.
If you want to get your password via email, click the password reset link included in the email from Apple
Step 7. Enter the new password
Type the password into the appropriate field, and re-enter the password entry in the next field.
Passwords must be at least 8 characters long (including numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters), without spaces. In addition, entries must not contain the same three characters in a row (“111”), or the same as an Apple ID or password that was used last year
Tips
- iCloud password changes will be applied to all Apple services that require your Apple ID.
- If you can't remember the security question and can't access your recovery email account, you'll need to create a new Apple ID account.
