In order to successfully get an aged look on your costume and age in a realistic way, you need to prepare ahead of time. Look for parents' faces, appropriate clothing, and a few other key properties. Don't worry-looking like a parent is easy. Follow the steps below and you will soon look old and wrinkled.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Thinking through the Concept
Step 1. Do your research
Look for photos of parents. Search the internet or family albums. If people say you look like your grandma, look for her picture. Here are some sources of inspiration that you can use:
- Find your favorite old people from movies or television shows.
- Check what parents wear on nursing home flyers.
- If you want to do some field research, visit a parent activity center and see what they are wearing.
Step 2. Decide on a plan
Decide on the appearance you want. This way, it's easy for you to gather your materials and dress properly when the time comes. Draw on an older version of yourself as a source of inspiration. Having a costume in mind can help you make it happen.
- Once your research is complete, decide what type of display you want. Do you want to look classy, worn, or scary?
- Determine how much time you have to dress up. Will you be able to shop or just use the contents of the wardrobe?
Method 2 of 3: Makeup
Step 1. Wash your face
Washing your face before applying makeup is very important. Your face must look very convincing for your overall appearance to look good.
You should wash your face as thoroughly as possible. If your face is oily, your makeup won't stick well. Wash and dry thoroughly
Step 2. Prepare the makeup base
Lightly coat the face, neck, and ears using a sponge. Don't stop until you reach your chin, or everyone will notice that your neck is a different color than your face. This base makeup also shouldn't be the same color as your skin.
Usually, older people's skin is a little paler. Use shades two or three shades lighter than your base skin tone. You can also consider a color that's a shade darker if that's the character you want
Step 3. Create wrinkles
Look in the mirror when you frown. Rub your forehead. Look for natural wrinkles on the face. Amplify the look and add shadows. Use a dark brown makeup pencil or small brush to draw a thin line above each wrinkle.
- Start at the center and work your way out. Just like wrinkles on the face, the shadow lines should be thicker in the middle and thinner at the ends.
- Do the same under the dark lines using a light brown color. When you're done with your makeup, make a crow's leg shape on the outer corner of your eye.
- Rub the mouth and nose, then strengthen the wrinkles and create shadows in these two parts.
- Run your fingers over the face to smooth out the wrinkles.
Step 4. Draw the eye shadows
Take a brush and apply dark brown or purple makeup then brush it over both eyes. Then, add another shadow under the eyes, in the areas that make them look black when you're sleep deprived.
This shade should be as smooth as wrinkles and blended well on the edges of the eyes. You can add highlights under both eyes and at the corners to make the eyes stand out. Thicken eye bags with a dark color
Step 5. Color the lips
You can color it with your standard lip color, or lighten or darken it. Many older people have lips that are not pink.
- After the base color is applied to the lips, prepare the shadow color and add some vertical lines on the upper and lower lips to make it look wrinkled. Move your lips to find the exact location of the wrinkles.
- You can draw lines across the lips if you want to look really old, but don't go any further than 0.6 cm. Be selective and don't repeat the same pattern.
Step 6. Add a few things to make your design more real, such as skin blemishes, scars, red patches, or jawbone texture
Remember that you have to create something three-dimensional, so use the right highlights and shadows.
- Remember, the light source usually comes from above, so highlight it appropriately. Wrinkles usually appear strong at the bottom because light hits them there. For warts, the light will be at the top.
- You can also use a darker or lighter color with a slotted sponge or brush to give your skin more texture.
Step 7. Finish the makeup
Use powder to add a light layer all over the face and neck. After that, splash cold water on your face and dry it using a paper towel or cloth.
- Don't dry your face by rubbing it. Scrubbing your face will set the makeup off and make it last longer, without exposing it to your clothes or hands. Eventually, the makeup will still fade, so be careful.
- If you want to look like a woman, when you're done, use a bright lipstick or blue/purple eye shadow. Wear blush-on too.
Step 8. Treat your new face
Once you get the old man look you want, treat your face while you put on your clothes.
- Avoid smiling or laughing excessively until you are ready with your clothes.
- When wearing clothes, be careful not to touch your face. If you want to wear something tight without ruining your makeup, do it before you dress.
- However, it's usually better to put on clothes after you've applied your makeup. This way, your makeup won't accidentally fall off and stain your clothes.
Method 3 of 3: Dress Like Parents
Step 1. Remember a few key rules before you find the right outfit
There are some useful general guidelines to help you get the look right – keep these things in mind before getting dressed:
- Pack a lot of layers, either a worn sweater for men, or a long cardigan for women. Old people are always cold and like to wear layers of clothes.
- All your clothes should look as if they have been washed a hundred times. Wear clothes that look worn and dull.
- Both men and women should wear a white wig or baby powder in their hair to get the gray look. Men may consider wearing a "wig" that makes him look bald. You can also add highlights to your hair roots by applying a white/grey eyeshadow.
- You should really think about the clothes you're going to wear, but make sure they look worn out.
Step 2. Know where you can get "old man" clothes
If you want to look like an old man, wear the right clothes and find out where you can buy them. The right clothes will determine whether people will like your style or ask who you really are. Here are some tips you can follow:
- Ask for clothes from grandparents. The main source for choosing the right clothes is to search your grandparents wardrobe. Real parents certainly have old stuff.
- Only ask if he has a good sense of humor and doesn't mind you wanting to look old. Even if they only allow you to see clothes without borrowing them, you can still get inspired.
- Look at a thrift or thrift store and buy "old man" things. You may be able to find hidden treasure for a low price.
Step 3. Put on the old man's clothes
This may be easy, but finding the right outfit takes effort. So that you can do that, think about all the things you'll be wearing, from hats to shoes. Here's the guide:
- Wear a light white t-shirt or one that says parental community.
- The right knitted romper will also strengthen the impression of an old man on you.
- Wear short tan, gray, or brown pants, and secure them with suspenders.
- Wear a hat such as a fedora, baseball cap, or straw hat. You can also wear loafers or orthopedics. Wear brown socks.
Step 4. Dress like an old lady
To look like the best old lady possible, wear the right clothes, shoes, and accessories. Here are some things you can wear to make your old lady dress look real:
- Wear pants, skirts, or dresses one size larger. The top should be a little loose and not really fit. Check out the stock of old dresses in your home to find the perfect match.
- Wear pantyhose. You shouldn't expose your calves either, even if it's warm outside.
- Wear old orthopedic shoes or sneakers. If you want to come off as a "cool" old woman, wear high heels with chunky heels. Take advantage of the velcro.
- If you are a woman, wear large jewelry and a standard size purse. Put foods like muffins and bananas in your wallet and offer them regularly to others.
Step 5. Don't underestimate the power of the right accessory or property
Clothing will help you achieve the look you want, but the right accessories or props will enhance your appearance and impress people. Here are some tips for finding the right property or accessory:
- Wear thick clear glasses.
- Bring a walking aid or cane if that doesn't bother you.
- If you're really ambitious, consider buying a hearing aid, or making earplugs that look like them.
- Bring a bottle of vitamins and offer it to people.
- Parents love gardening. Bring an empty watering vase.
Step 6. Done
Tips
- As you get more proficient, you can use rubber. Rubber can be applied to stretched skin. As the rubber dries and the skin is relaxed, you will get more wrinkles.
- Depending on your goal of looking old, you may be able to create wrinkles and highlights on your hands.
- Highlights and colors with shadows may vary depending on location and lighting. If the place you are going to is dark or far away, use dark colors to create shadows and light colors to create highlights. When you are going to perform on stage, the shadow color is usually dark purple, while the highlight is done using a bright cream color.
- Make sure you look realistic when you dress like an old man. Wear neutral colors (not neon) and fake glasses.
