To change the D-Link wireless network password, you must open the router configuration page via a web browser. After entering the browser configuration page, you can change the password through the Wireless Settings menu.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Accessing the Router
Step 1. Open a web browser on a network-connected device
We recommend using a computer connected via Ethernet because devices connected via Wi-Fi will be disconnected when the information in the router is updated.
Step 2. Enter 192.168.0.1 in the browser address bar
This address is the default address for most D-Link routers.
Step 3. If the above address is not accessible, enter 192.168.1.1
The address is also commonly used by routers.
Step 4. Enter https://dlinkrouter if you are unable to access the router via the above two addresses
These addresses are accessible if you use most new D-Link routers.
Step 5. Find the address of the router if all the addresses above are not accessible
You can find the router address in the following ways:
- Windows - Right-click the Network icon in the system bar, then click Open Network and Sharing Center. Click the Connections link for active connections at the top of the window, then click the Details button and copy the Default Gateway IPv4 address. This address is your router's address.
- Mac - Click the Apple menu, then choose System Preferences. Click the Network option, select the active network, and click the Advanced button. Click the TCP/IP tab, then copy the Router address.
Method 2 of 3: Login to the Router
Step 1. Enter admin as username
This username is the default username for most D-Link routers.
Step 2. Leave the password field blank
Generally, D-Link routers are not password protected.
Step 3. Try using the admin password if you can't access the router without entering the password
Step 4. Look for your router's default username and password if the above username and password combination doesn't work for you to access your router
Go to www.routerpasswords.com and select "D-Link" from the menu. Find the router model from the list, then enter the username and password that appears.
Step 5. Press and hold the Reset button on the back of the router for 30 seconds, and wait a while for the router to restart if you are unable to enter the router administration page with the default username and password
After the router has been reset, you can use the default username and password to enter the router administration page.
Method 3 of 3: Changing Wi-Fi Password
Step 1. Click the Wireless tab
If the tab doesn't exist, click the Setup tab, then click Wireless Settings in the left menu.
Step 2. Click the Security Mode menu
Step 3. Click Enable WPA2 Wireless Security
Use the WPA2 security option, unless you want to try connecting an older device that doesn't support this encryption standard to the network. WPA2 is the most advanced network security system.
Step 4. Click the Passphrase field
Step 5. Enter your desired password
Make sure you don't use a word in the dictionary as a password, and choose one that isn't easy to remember, especially if you live in a densely populated area.
Step 6. Re-enter the password in the Confirm Passphrase field
Step 7. Click Save Settings
Step 8. Once the password is changed, all devices connected to the wireless network will be disconnected from the network
Enter the new password to reconnect the device.
