Are you trying to get Windows Media Player files continuously to play in iTunes? Are you struggling to find a way to convert your files to MP3? Here are some useful tips.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Free File Conversion on the Internet
Step 1. Look for free file conversion tools on the internet
Type ".wav to MP3 convert" into a search engine and look for a converter that offers a free service.
Step 2. Navigate to the section of the site that offers conversions
Sometimes, you have to explore the site to find where the service is offered.
Step 3. Import the.wav file you want to convert to MP3
Step 4. Select your desired conversion format, if necessary
Some sites will ask you to specify the conversion format you want.
Step 5. Decide where you want to send the file
Enter the email address to which you want to send the converted file, if necessary. Sometimes you can download the file directly from the site itself. At other times, you'll need to enter an email address in order to retrieve the file.
If you're worried about getting spammed, use a sock-puppet email or create a new one for yourself. You can use this account to retrieve any file you need
Step 6. Look for the "convert" button which is nearby
The file will be sent to your email address; sometimes, the file will be zipped to accommodate larger files.
Method 2 of 3: iTunes
Step 1. Open iTunes
Step 2. Navigate to iTunes → Preferences → Import Settings
- If you're using iTunes 7 or earlier, you'll need to click the "Advanced" tab before you can access "Import Settings."
- If you're using iTunes 8 or later, clicking "Preferences" will automatically take you to a page where you can find "Advanced."
Step 3. Set "Import Using" to "MP3 Encoder
Step 4. Select setting preferences
Next to "Settings," select 128 kbps, 160 kbps, or 192 kbps.
If you want a custom setting, click "Custom…" and select the options for Stereo Bit Rate, Sample Rate, and Channels. In most cases, we recommend setting the channel to "Stereo."
Step 5. Click "OK" to close the Import Settings window
Step 6. Click "OK" to close the General Preferences window
Step 7. Select one or more.wav files present in your iTunes
Step 8. Create an MP3 version of the file
Depending on your iTunes version, you can do this by:
- With the file selected, navigate to the "Advanced" tab and select Create MP3 Version.
- Right-click the file and click "Create MP3 Version."
Method 3 of 3: Audacity
Step 1. Download the appropriate LAME MP3 encoder
Step 2. Extract the archive Lame folder and remember the location
Step 3. Download and open the free cross-platform Audacity
Step 4. Select File and select the Open option
Step 5. Locate the WAV file you want on your computer's hard drive
A sound map of the file will appear on the main Audacity screen.
Step 6. Select the File tab and select the Export as MP3 option
Step 7. Follow the prompts by searching for the MP3 encoder you just extracted
The files are named lame_enc.dll for Windows and libmp3lame.so for Macintosh. You will only be prompted to do this the first time you use the Export as MP3 option.
Step 8. Select the location where you want to save the converted MP3 file and rename the file if necessary
If you're converting a.wav file to an.mp3 that's specifically for iTunes to play, the iTunes music folder is an ideal location to store the converted files.
Tips
- Read the Manual from Audacity.
- KDE on Linux will automatically convert WAV to MP3 via Konqueror or K3b.
