You can stream GoPro videos on your smartphone easily through various apps. However, it's a different story if you try to stream GoPro videos on your computer with VLC Media Player. Generally, if you try to stream GoPro videos via VLC, you will run into some issues. Fortunately, you can solve this problem easily, without needing to know an advanced programming language. If you're using a newer GoPro model, you may need to install additional software.

Method 1 of 3: Serving GoPro Hero2 (with Wi-Fi BacPac) or Hero3 to VLC Media Player
Step 1. Turn on Wi-Fi on your GoPro
Follow the guide that fits your GoPro model.
- If you're using a Hero2, connect the camera to the Wi-Fi BacPac, then press the Wi-Fi button on the BacPac to open the Wi-Fi Menu. Select the Phone and Tablet option.
- If you're using a Hero 3 or 3+, use the Mode button to access the menu, then select Settings. Open Wi-Fi Settings, and select GoPro App.
Step 2. Connect the computer to your GoPro
Now, the GoPro wireless network will appear on the computer. Select the GoPro wireless network, then enter the password. The default password for GoPro wireless networks is goprohero.
Step 3. Find your GoPro streaming link
This link is required to access GoPro from VLC Media Player.
- Enter https://10.5.5.9:8080/live in your browser's address bar, then press Enter.
- Click "amba.m3u8"
- Copy the link by selecting the entire text in the address bar and pressing Ctrl + C.
Step 4. Open VLC Media Player, then select Media > Open Network Stream and paste the link you just copied in the Please enter a network URL text box
Press Ctrl + V to paste the link.
Step 5. Watch the show from the camera by clicking Play in VLC Media Player
Method 2 of 3: Stream GoPro Hero4 to VLC Media Player
Step 1. Download and install Camera Suite from camerasuite.org
After paying, you will be redirected to the download page.
Step 2. Create a new connection on your GoPro
From the GoPro settings menu, select Wireless > GoPro App. To display the pairing code, select the New option. You must enter this pairing code into CameraSuite.
Step 3. Connect the computer to your GoPro
Select the GoPro wireless network, then enter the password. The default password for GoPro wireless networks is goprohero. Once your computer is connected to the GoPro wireless network, open CameraSuite and click Pair Camera. Enter the 6-digit GoPro pairing code, then click Pair Camera Now.
Step 4. Start the video player by clicking the Video Streamer link in CameraSuite
Select "Hero 4" in the Camera Model column. Click Stream to start viewing, then click Copy Player URL into Clipboard.
Step 5. Open VLC Media Player, then select Media > Open Network Stream and paste the link you just copied in the Please enter a network URL text box
Press Ctrl + V to paste the link.
Step 6. Watch the show from the camera by clicking Play in VLC Media Player
Method 3 of 3: Serving GoPro with Other Software or Hardware
Step 1. Use another media player on the computer
If you can use the command line interface or run Python scripts, you can try Ffmpeg to get GoPro to your computer.
