This wikiHow teaches you how to open PPTX files on iPhone and iPad. The latest versions of Microsoft PowerPoint (2007 and later) save the slide file as a PPTX file. If you subscribe to the Office 365 service, you can open and edit PowerPoint files using PowerPoint for iOS. If you don't subscribe to the service, you can still open and review PowerPoint files using the same application. You can also open, review, and edit PowerPoint files through Keynote. However, PowerPoint files may not display properly in Keynote.

Method 1 of 4: Using Microsoft PowerPoint
Step 1. Open the App Store
The App Store is marked by a blue icon with a capital “A”. Open the App Store by touching its icon on the device's home screen.
Step 2. Touch the Search tab
The “Search” tab is in the lower-right corner of the screen. The icon looks like a magnifying glass. After that, a search bar will appear in the center of the screen.
Step 3. Type PowerPoint into the search bar
The search bar is the gray bar in the center of the screen. A list of applications that match the search keyword will be displayed afterwards.
Step 4. Touch PowerPoint
Microsoft PowerPoint and similar applications will appear in the App Store window.
Step 5. Touch GET next to “Microsoft PowerPoint”
Microsoft PowerPoint is marked by a red icon with a piece of paper and the letter “P” on top of another piece of paper showing a graph. This application can be downloaded for free from the App Store.
Step 6. Open Microsoft PowerPoint
After the application is finished downloading and installing, you can open it by touching its icon on the home screen, or selecting the button “ OPEN ” next to “Microsoft PowerPoint” in the App Store window.
Step 7. Touch Open
It's in the red sidebar on the left side of the window when you open PowerPoint. The icon looks like a folder. The " Places " menu will be displayed after that.
If you open PowerPoint and the app displays the last presentation you opened, tap the back arrow icon in the upper-left corner of the screen to load the red bar on the left of the screen
Step 8. Touch … More
This option is the second option on the " Places " menu. The " Locations " menu will appear and you can use it to browse the files.
Step 9. Touch the PPTX file storage directory
A list of folders is displayed in the " Locations " menu on the left of the screen. If the PPTX file has already been saved to your iPhone or iPad, tap “ On my iPhone/iPad " If the file is stored in iCloud storage, select “ iCloud " You can also select “Google Drive”, “DropBox”, “OneDrive”, and other online storage space services.
If you don't see the online storage service you want in the “Locations” menu, make sure you've downloaded and installed the storage space app from the App Store and logged into your account via the app. After that, touch " Edit " at the top of the “Locations” menu and tap the switch next to the online storage service you have installed on your device.
Step 10. Locate the file
Use the window on the right side of the screen to access the file. If the file is in a specific folder, touch the folder to find the file.
Step 11. Touch the file
Once you find it, touch the file to open it in Microsoft PowerPoint. If you subscribe to the Office 365 service, you can edit and save PPTX files. If you don't subscribe to the service, you can still review documents and play slides by tapping the triangular “play” icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
If you subscribe to an Office 365 service and need to sign in to your account, touch “ Sign In ” in the upper right corner of the screen and sign in using the email address and password associated with your Office 365 account.
Method 2 of 4: Using Keynote
Step 1. Open Keynote
This application is marked by a blue icon with a podium shaped like a lamp. Keynote is usually pre-installed on most iPhones and iPads. When you open Keynote, the “Locations” menu or the last presentation you reviewed is displayed.
If Keynote isn't already installed on your iPhone or iPad, you can download it for free from the App Store
Step 2. Touch Browse
This option is the second tab at the bottom of the screen. The “Locations” menu will be displayed on the left sidebar.
On iPad, Keynote will show you the last presentation you worked on. Touch " Presentations ” in the upper-left corner of the screen to return to the “Recent Files” page. On iPhone, tap the back arrow in the top-left corner of the screen to go to the “Recent Files” page.
Step 3. Touch the PPTX file storage directory
A list of folders is displayed on the left side of the screen. Directory options include iPhone or iPad storage space, as well as iCloud storage space and other online storage services installed on your iPhone or iPad.
If you don't see the online storage service in the “Locations” menu, make sure you've downloaded and installed the app in question from the App Store and logged into your account through that app. After that, select " Edit " at the top of the “Locations” menu, then tap the switch next to the online storage service you have installed on your device.
Step 4. Locate the PPTX file
If the file is stored in a specific folder, access that folder and touch the file to open it.
Step 5. Touch the PPTX file
Once you find it, tap the file to open it in Keynote. You can review, edit, and play PowerPoint files in Keynote. However, the appearance or animation of the file may not be the same as how it looks or animations in PowerPoint. You can edit a PPTX file with the following methods:
- Touch the slide page in the bar on the left to view it. Touch and hold the text to edit it on the slide page.
- Touch the square icon with a plus sign (“+”) in the center to add a page. It's at the bottom of the slide page bar, on the left side of the screen.
- Touch the “play” triangle icon to play the slide. It's in the upper-right corner of the screen.
- Touch the paintbrush icon in the upper right corner of the screen to edit the slide page format.
- Touch the plus sign (“+”) icon in the upper-right corner of the screen to add images, text fields, shapes, graphics, tables, and other objects.
- Touch the three dots (“…”) button to open the “More” options menu. It's in the upper-right corner of the screen.
- To save or export a work in Keynote as a PowerPoint file, touch " …" in the upper right corner of the screen. Select " Export " and touch " Power point ”.
Method 3 of 4: Opening PPTX Files from Email
Step 1. Open the email app
You can use the app you use to check your email. If you're using Apple Mail, tap the blue icon with the envelope at the bottom of the screen. If you're using Gmail, Outlook, or another email app, tap the app icon to check your email.
Step 2. Touch the email containing the PPTX attachment
Most email apps display a paperclip icon next to emails with attachments. Browse emails and touch a message with a PPTX attachment to open or view it.
Step 3. Touch the PPTX file
Most email apps display a list of attachments at the bottom of the message. Swipe and tap the PPTX file to open the file preview. After that, the file information, slide preview, or error message will be displayed, depending on the application you are using.
Some apps require you to download attachments before you can view them. Touch the attachment to download it to the device
Step 4. Touch the “Share” icon
The “Share” icon is indicated by a square button with an arrow pointing up. You can see it in the upper-right corner of the PowerPoint image or slide. The “Share” menu will be opened after that.
Step 5. Copy the PPTX file to the presentation application
If you have PowerPoint installed on your iPhone or iPad, tap " Open with PowerPoint ". It's below the red PowerPoint icon. If you want to use Keynote, tap " Copy to Keynote ". If you have another Office program that supports PPTX files on your device, touch that program. After that, the PPTX file will be opened in the selected program.
Method 4 of 4: Opening PPTX Files from Files App
Step 1. Touch the Files app icon
These apps are marked by a blue folder icon. You can see it in the Dock at the bottom of the screen. The file browsing app will then open on your iPhone or iPad.
Step 2. Touch Browse
This option is the second tab at the bottom of the screen. The “Locations” menu will load in the bar on the left of the screen.
Step 3. Touch the PPTX file storage directory
If the PPTX file has already been saved to your iPhone or iPad, tap " On My iPhone/iPad ". If the file is stored in your iCloud account, select " iCloud If the file is saved to a different online storage service (e.g. Google Drive or Dropbox), touch the relevant service in the “Locations” menu.
If you don't see the online storage service in the “Locations” menu, make sure you've downloaded and installed the app in question from the App Store and logged into your account through that app. After that, select " Edit " at the top of the “Locations” menu, then tap the switch next to the online storage service you have installed on your device.
Step 4. Locate the PPTX file
If the file is stored in a specific folder, touch the folder to view its contents.
Step 5. Touch and hold the PPTX file
A menu bar will appear above the file.
If you touch a PPTX file without holding it down, it will automatically open in Keynote
Step 6. Touch Share
This option is on the menu bar that appears when you touch and hold a file in the Files window. The file sharing menu will appear after that.
Step 7. Copy the file to the presentation application
Touch the icon of the application you want to use to open the file. If you want to open it in PowerPoint, tap the blue icon with a piece of paper and the letter “P” on top of another piece of paper showing the graphic. Labels " Open with PowerPoint " is displayed below it. If you want to open the file in Keynote, tap the blue icon with the podium image. Label " Copy to Keynote " is displayed below the icon. If you want to open the file in another application, touch the icon of the respective application.
