Don't worry if your phone falls into water and needs to be dried. There are various ways to dry your phone without burying it in rice. In fact, rice isn't the only ingredient you can count on to dry a wet phone. When drying your phone, the main thing to do is to get it out of the water immediately and disassemble it as quickly as possible. Wipe the inside of the phone dry and place it in a drying agent for at least 48 hours. Also, never shake the phone while it's still wet as this can make the damage worse.

Part 1 of 3: Choosing Drying Materials
Step 1. Try using crystal-based cat litter
This cat litter is made of silica gel. It is a good absorbent material and is very effective at absorbing moisture left on a water damaged phone. You can buy them at pet feed stores or supermarkets.
Do not use cat litter from other materials. Clay-based sand or talcum powder can stick to your phone and make it dirty and wet with the adhering clay
Step 2. Try using instant oatmeal
This ingredient is easier to absorb liquid than rolled oats (whole oats without the skin that has been flaked) and steel oats (chopped oats). If you have instant oatmeal, it makes a very effective cell phone dryer. Keep in mind that if you use oatmeal to dry your phone's components, your phone may get a little bit of oatmeal dust on it.
Instant oatmeal without added flavors can be found at grocery stores
Step 3. Try using a synthetic desiccant (drying agent) pack
Synthetic desiccants are usually packaged in packages measuring about 2 centimeters that are placed in shoe boxes, dry foods (such as beef jerky and seasonings), and electronic devices. These packages usually contain silica beads which can absorb and expel moisture from the phone very effectively. You don't need to open the package. Just stack the desiccant packet on top of the phone and let the material remove any remaining moisture.
- This method will only work if you have stored the silica gel package for several months. Even so, this isn't a bad idea. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and there is a high chance that the phone will fall into the water.
- If you don't already have silica gel packs, buy them online in bulk.
Step 4. Dry the phone using couscous beads
Couscous is a type of wheat grain that has been ground and dried. The small, dry granules work like instant oatmeal or silica beads to absorb the moisture present in the phone's components. You can buy them at the grocery store or supermarket. The granules don't produce dust that sticks to the phone so they're cleaner than instant oatmeal.
Make sure you buy couscous grains that are not added flavor and seasoning
Part 2 of 3: Getting the Phone Out of the Water
Step 1. Immediately remove the phone from the water
When you drop your phone in the toilet, bathtub, or puddle, the first step is to get it out of the water ASAP. The longer the phone is submerged in water, the more water will be absorbed.
Leaving the phone submerged in water for a long time causes the water to seep into the inside of the phone and cause the electrical components inside to get wet
Step 2. Remove the battery and the interior of the phone
Before performing any steps to dry the outer surface, remove the electrical components of the phone. Open the phone cover and remove the battery and SIM card. Also remove the micro SD card from the phone, if any.
Interior components are a very important part for the phone to function. If the component gets wet, the phone will not work
Step 3. Blow the water that sticks to the phone components, then wipe the components with a towel to dry them
Blowing on the phone's electrical components will remove any remaining water. After that, wipe the phone components with a dry and clean towel to remove any remaining moisture on the surface. Use only a desiccant (desiccant) to remove any residual moisture that has entered the phone's components.
In addition to blowing the components of the phone, you can also shake it back and forth in the air in a fast motion. Be careful not to accidentally throw the battery into another room
Part 3 of 3: Using Dryers
Step 1. Place the phone components in a 1–2 liter container
If you want to cover your phone with drying material, you'll need a little space to do so. Check kitchen cabinets and pick up a large container, bowl, or pan. Place all the disassembled phone components at the bottom of the case.
You don't need to include the plastic back cover of the phone. This is a non-essential part of the phone's function and can dry out on its own
Step 2. Pour at least 4 cups (350 grams) of drying agent over the phone
Don't hesitate to pour a lot of ingredients. You will need a large amount of it to absorb any remaining liquid from the phone's electrical components.
Cover the container if you are using an inedible drying agent such as silica gel
Step 3. Leave the phone in the case for 2-3 days to dry
It may take a few days for the phone to fully dry and be ready to use again. Leave the phone in the drying case for about 48 hours. If the phone is taken out of there prematurely, you may eventually have to disassemble it because it still retains water.
If you need to use your phone before the drying time is up, try borrowing your phone from a friend. Or, you can communicate via email and social media to replace your cell phone
Step 4. Reassemble the phone and try turning it on
After 48-72 hours have elapsed, remove the phone from the drying material pile. Shake the phone parts to remove any adhering drying material, then put the battery, SD card and SIM card back into the phone. Next, turn the phone back on by pressing the "power" button.
If the phone won't turn on after drying-or it can turn on, but barely works, or the screen is damaged-take it to a repair shop
Tips
- If no drying agent is available, place the phone in a cool room, and blow the fan toward the phone.
- Never put your phone in a warm oven or blow it with a hot hairdryer. Warm air can damage (or even melt) important components of your phone.
- If you are using a Galaxy smartphone (or any other Android device), open the case with your fingernail. On some phones, you may need to use a small plus screwdriver (like the one used for glasses). On an iPhone, you'll need to use a special “pentalobe” screwdriver.
