Step
Method 1 of 2: Creating Animations from Scratch
Step 1. Open Photoshop
The app is marked by a light blue “Ps” letter icon on a dark background.
Step 2. Create a new project
To make it:
- Click File.
- Click New.
- Select the project size.
- Click Create.
Step 3. Create a layer for each frame (frame)
Each layer in the animation will have its own frame. If you're drawing the animation manually or compiling it from a series of images, make sure each frame is on a new layer. You can create a new layer in several ways:
- Click the " New Layer " icon at the bottom of the layers window.
- Click Layers, New, Layers.
- Press the key combination Shift+ Ctrl+ N (PC) or Shift+ Command+ N (Mac).
Step 4. Click Window, then select Timeline.
After that, the video will be added to the timeline (“Timeline”) at the bottom of the Photoshop project window, just like the timeline that would normally appear in video editing applications.
Step 5. Click Create Frame Animation
You may need to click the button
first to see the options.
Step 6. Click
It's in the upper-right corner of the timeline window. Once clicked, a drop-down menu will appear.
Step 7. Click Make Frames From Layers
After that, each layer will be converted into a single frame that makes up the animated GIF.
Step 8. Click the button
which is next to the "Once" button.
This option will set the number of repetitions of the animation you want.
Step 9. Select Forever

below each frame to adjust the timing if you want certain frames to appear longer or faster during animation playing.
Step 10. Click File, then select Export and click Save For Web (Legacy).
After that, the export options for the web image format will be displayed.
Step 11. Click Save

Make sure "GIF" is selected in the drop-down box on the right
Step 12. Select a file name and save location, then click Save

Method 2 of 2: Creating Animations from Videos
Step 1. Open Photoshop
This app is marked by a light blue “Ps” icon on a dark background.
Step 2. Open the video file
After that, the video will be imported into Photoshop and placed in the timeline window at the bottom of the program window. To place it, you can drag and drop the video file directly into the Photostop window, or:
- Click File, and select Open.
- Select the desired video file.
- Click Open.
Step 3. Adjust the duration
Click the start and end of the video file on the timeline and drag each section in opposite directions to adjust the start and end points of the video as it plays.
If you want to review the changes, press the play button on the left side of the timeline window
Step 4. Adjust the speed
If you want to speed up or slow down the video playback rate, you can right-click a clip in the timeline and change the “Speed ” parameter. You can enter a new percentage number (e.g. 50% to play the video at half the original speed, or 200% to play the video at double the speed) or:

and drag the slider towards the left or right to adjust the rotating speed manually.
Step 5. Resize the image
If you are importing HD quality videos, it is possible that the image size will be quite large. If you want to upload an animated-g.webp
- Click Image.
- Click Image Size.
- Enter the new image size (350 x 197 is the recommended size for HD video).
- Click OK.
- Click Convert.
Step 6. Click File, choose Export, and click Save For Web (Legacy).
After that, the export options for the web image format will be displayed.
Step 7. Select the desired quality version

Step 8. Click
the one beside Looping Options, and select the desired option.
It's in the lower-right corner of the window. Specify whether the animation will play once or repeat continuously.
