Are you worried about Yu Gi Oh! what you have turns out to be fake? Try learning to find some clues to determine the authenticity of your card.

Step 1. Check for misspellings of the card name
If so, the card is clearly a fake (or a misprint, but this is very rare).
Step 2. Check the back of the card to check if the words "Konami" are spelled correctly
Otherwise, the card is fake.
Step 3. Check the Star Level on the card
Compare it to the card image on the internet to check its correctness. If the Level star appears "solid", your card is fake.
Step 4. Check the gold or silver hologram in the bottom right corner
The first and limited edition cards have a gold box, while the Unlimited (unlimited) edition cards have a silver case. If the color of the card's hologram is incorrect, or it doesn't exist at all, it means that your card is clearly fake.
Step 5. Check the gloss on the card
If the card feels too shiny or doesn't shine at all, it's probably a fake. However, it should be noted that the new cards are shinier than the old cards.
Step 6. Read the text
If the card's font is too thin or thick, or there are misspellings, it's possible that your card is fake. Know that the Yu-Gi-Oh! use a special font.
Step 7. Check the image
If the card's image is blurry or of low quality, there's a good chance it's a fake. However, note that Duel Terminal cards have parallel layers that make the cards appear blurry.
Step 8. Check the color of the card
If your card is the wrong color, too pale or too light, it's a fake. However, some boosters, such as Gladiators Assault, are lighter in color and Duel Terminal cards are darker in color due to parallel layers.
- Monster = Yellow
- Effect monster (monsters with special effects) = Orange
- Spell (magic) = Turquoise
- Trap = Pink
- Fusion (merging) = Purple
- Ritual = Blue
- Token = Gray
- Synchro = White
- Xyz = Black
- Pendulum = Yellow or Orange (bottom)/turquoise (top)
Step 9. Check the set of numbers
If there's no set of numbers on the card (it should be under the image on the right, just above the text), it's likely a fake. Fake cards usually also display the wrong set of numbers.
Step 10. Look at the back of the card and check for the Konami, ™ or ® symbol
Otherwise, your card is fake, except on the card Egyptian God which cannot be played.
Step 11. Check the serial number in the lower left corner of the card
If you don't have one, your card is fake, although there are some cards that don't have it like Gate Guardian.
Tips
- Card rarities such as Starfoil Rare and other similar Parallel Rare have small stars or other types of holograms; check the various styles of rarity available before discarding your card.
- If you are still not sure about the authenticity of the card you have, try looking in the card database.. If you buy it at an official store, the chances of getting a fake card are very small. However, if you get one at a flea market, the internet, or a thrift store, the chances of getting a fake card are pretty good.
- Normal cards usually have italicized text, while Effect Monsters have normal text.
