Faking death to escape is something you can do when being chased by the police, running away from home, or just wanting to start a new life. Read step 1 for tips on how to fake death without raising too much suspicion.

Part 1 of 2: Disappear Completely
Step 1. Reconsider your decision
Faking death is generally considered a violation of the law. Are you in a situation that only fake death can solve? Can you solve the problem by simply moving to another place? Are you being too dramatic? Are there any other alternatives? Don't fake your death unless you feel there is no other way but to fake it.
Understand what will happen after you fake death. You will lose touch with all your friends and relatives. Involving a friend or relative will generally result in betrayal and you will be reported to the police. If you really need to involve someone, make sure that person is a friend who understands you and will not go to the police, family or the general public for any reason
Step 2. Stop using anything that can be used to track you
After faking death, you cannot use any email accounts, memberships, cell phones or any personal information from your past life. This step is probably the toughest preparation to do before your death can be faked.
You need money to start a new life. Withdraw money from your bank account gradually before faking death and leaving things like credit cards and other documents behind. Eliminating these documents would raise suspicion. If you are in a hurry, withdraw a large amount of money in one withdrawal. Save a little money to dispel suspicion
Step 3. Pay attention to the little things that can derail your efforts
Avoid acting suspiciously before faking death. Avoid using a personal laptop, computer, or cell phone (unless you change the sim card). These objects can be used to track your whereabouts. Plus people can notice if you have these items with you.
Step 4. Decide how you will die
Suicide is the easiest option. Although people close to you will have a hard time accepting your cause of death, by "killing yourself" you don't need to accuse someone who is innocent of being a "murderer." Suicide is also an easy case to close: in most cases your CCTV footage and personal records will not be checked if everyone finds out that you "killed" yourself, unlike the case of missing persons.
- Choose a "suicide method" that doesn't leave a corpse, or at least one where the body is hard to find. Leaving a message saying you're going to jump off a bridge is a common option. The police will not be too suspicious even if your body cannot be found.
- Another option is "lost at sea". In coastal areas, faking death by "lost at sea" is possible. If you are lost at sea for at least 6 days without communication and there is sufficient evidence of possible death (for example, objects in your possession or your ship are found), you will be declared dead. This method may be difficult to do because it requires a ship. However, this method may not be as surprising as if you were to kill yourself for those closest to you. Doing this also reduces the chances of you being held responsible if you ever find yourself in a new life.
Step 5. Execute your plan
Leave your "last message" before it disappears. Get as far away from the city as possible and start your new life freely.
Part 2 of 2: Starting a New Life
Step 1. Remove any kind of contacts related to people from your old life
Unfortunately, many fail to fake a death by deliberately faking a death to get insurance funds or getting a speeding ticket. To succeed, you must disappear completely.
- Start by hiding somewhere close, such as in a cheap hotel, for a few weeks. Gather enough food and hide while watching the detective series on television until the police give up finding you. Go after this waiting period is over. Use disguises when you have to go out.
- In the end you have to go somewhere to start a new life.
Step 2. Create a new identity
After the "old you" dies, define your new identity. A gambler and poet from Africa who left the legacy of his family's canned tuna factory to move to Australia and work in the auto sector? A small-town bartender forced to move to glamorous Jakarta? Define your new identity and set it up:
- A new name. Practice signing, mentioning and introducing yourself by the name. Come up with a cool name like "James Alfredo" or something.
- New style. What will your new personality look like? Buy clothes that are different from what you normally wear and that someone from your old life won't recognize. Dress in such a way that your own mother will not recognize you on the street. Grow a beard, cut or color your hair, wear leather outfits, and do whatever it takes to get a completely different style.

Step 3. Make a fake ID card
Once you've got your new identity and are ready to introduce yourself as Horace McGillicutty, consider making fake documents with which to start a new life.
Step 4. Go to a place where people don't recognize you
Unless you manage to get convincing fake documents, using a plane is a bad option. Try going to distant places by hitchhiking or taking the bus to save money.
Step 5. Do informal work
Because it is "dead", you will find it difficult to pay taxes. Try to do informal work and keep moving as a precaution. Consider working as a migrant worker. You can continue to move westward while working as a farm laborer or other contract work that can be done without a formal employment relationship. Try working in oil palm, coffee or tea plantations. These jobs can make quite a bit of money. Keep moving in rural areas.
Step 6. Avoid acting flashy
Being a public figure is not a good thing. Get ready to live a quiet and simple life. Socialize moderately and hide your true self. Move when you start to get close to the local community.
- Stay away from touristy locations and important sites; places with multiple cameras where there is a chance that your photo may be taken by accident. What's more, it's possible that someone you know visited the site as a tourist.
- Wear a hooded jacket so you can't be easily identified.

- The step that will most impact your successful escape is to get a fake passport and move abroad. You can get a good job, not as a farm laborer in a second class country. Failure to obtain fake documents before the date of suicide or death can drastically increase the chances of being caught. For example, you need an ID card to stay at most hotels or motels. Choosing a name like Baron Friedrich von Glückenheim can also raise suspicion. Ask for your name, place and date of birth, and so on as often as possible when hiring an identity forger. If the request cannot be fulfilled, accept any possible new identities. Of course, it would be suspicious if a foreigner from a developed country worked as a laborer outside his home country. Try to consider skin color, language, dialect, and so on when choosing a country to live in.
- Since registering as a male/female in their 30s as a “new” taxpayer may be difficult, moving abroad can provide a better job than plantation labor and can certainly reduce the chances of being recognized by someone. You can also try working on a large hauling boat or fishing boat. Be careful because you need certain certificates to work as a chemical delivery person and the like, so prepare the related documents in advance. Such certificates have identification labels and are quite difficult to obtain. Never work for the government, generally your personal information will be public and easy to find.
- Don't do any research on the computer/mobile you are going to leave, including using your home internet connection because your traces on the internet can be easily obtained from internet service providers. Don't use your work computer to do this either. Libraries or public computers are good choices, but choose one away from home. Try doing research from a different library or internet cafe so you don't appear to be visiting the same place too often. Visiting the same place too often can raise suspicion. Use your fake ID to create a library card! If you have to call someone in preparation for your new life, buy one and use a cheap SIM card. This type of prepaid SIM card does not require name registration. Buy a cell phone with cash, as well as everything you'll need in your new life. Suicide is an act that most people will not commit. By leaving no evidence, there are not many records and documents that can prove that you are still alive.
- Remember to stop any kind of communication with your old acquaintances. Even if you have a new look, there's a good chance they will still recognize you.
- Faking death is harder to do if you're a teenager because family relationships are still close and earning money will be even more difficult.
- You need enough money if you don't want to be homeless.
- A different appearance is an important factor, but you don't need plastic surgery. Doing simple things like changing your hair style or color can help make you harder to spot.
- Try not to break the law. You'll get in much bigger trouble if you get caught by the police.
- Start a new life. This is an opportunity for you to create a new self.
- If you regret faking your own death, tell the truth to those closest to you. Explain what happened and hope they won't be too angry, or maybe they'll be so happy to see you alive that they forget their anger.
