Counter-Strike is a multiplayer first-person perspective shooting game that can be enjoyed on a variety of platforms, including computers, Xbox, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Counter-Strike was originally the name of a single game, but now refers to a series of games, with the latest version called Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. One of the features found in all versions of Counter-Strike is that it can be played with friends and other people. As a Counter-Strike player on a computer, you can add friends via Steam and you must first download the program in order to manage your Counter-Strike account's social media information.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Adding New Friends
Step 1. Download Steam to the computer
Steam is an online entertainment platform created by the developers of Counter-Strike. The program offers a variety of features and functions, including setting up social networks, enabling automatic updates, and managing friends.
When downloading a program, make its icon on the computer desktop so that the program is easy to find
Step 2. Run Steam
Double-click the Steam icon on the desktop. The Steam logo is dark blue, black, and white, and looks like a wheel attached to a crankshaft (a large circle connected to a small circle, and connected to another small circle via a stick).
Step 3. Sign in or create an account
To create an account, click the “Create a New Account” button. Fill out the form, enter your username and password, and click “Create My Account”. If you already have an account, simply log in using your username and password.
Step 4. Select “Friends” at the top left corner of the screen
From the drop-down menu, select “Add a Friend”. Alternatively, if you want to see a list of friends that have been added, scroll down the window and select “+Add a Friend”.
Step 5. Type in the name of the friend you want to add
Since Steam manages some games, you may need to find a friend using their Steam username instead of their Counter-Strike profile name.
- When you find the friend you want in the community, click the “Add as Friend” button to the right of their name.
- When prompted, select “Next” > “Finish”.
Step 6. Wait until the user in question accepts your friend request
Even if the request has not been responded to, the community member or Steam user will appear on your friends list, but in a special category called “Invitations Sent”. You can't tell if he's online or not until he accepts your friend request.
Part 2 of 3: Invite Friends to Private Gaming Sessions
Step 1. Run Counter-Strike
Several versions of the game Counter-Strike can be played offline so you can play alone or with selected friends and family members. Log in to the account using the username and password as usual. After that, click “Play” > “Play with Friends”.
Step 2. Invite friends to play
On the left side of the screen, click the names of the friends you want to invite to a private gaming session. Keep in mind that you must be friends with them before you can add them to the game.
Step 3. Select the game type
You can select the type of game in the “Game Settings” section. Most of the cash games are played offline, with the exception of “Classic” games.
Step 4. Make the game a private session
If you only want to play with selected bots and friends, click “Change Permissions”. After that, the game settings will be changed to private matches.
Step 5. Click “Go”
The game will start after that.
Part 3 of 3: Host Your Own Server
Step 1. Find your IP address
In Counter-Strike, you can set up and host a private server that only you and selected friends or family members can access. In order to invite friends to play on this server, you need to give them a private IP address.
You need a public IP address, not a local IP address. As the easiest way to find out a public IP address, you can visit sites like What's My IP. This site will tell you the computer's public IP address
Step 2. Locate the Counter-Strike file directory
When downloaded, Counter-Strike will create a file on your computer that contains all the information needed for the game to run. Go to the file directory (eg “Downloads” folder if it is not available in the application or system folder) and open the file named "hlds" (name is written in lower case). The “Start Dedicated Server” module will run.
Step 3. Set up the game
In the “Game” section, select Counter-Strike as the game. Specify the map you want to play. In the “Network” section, select “Internet” for online gaming sessions or “LAN” for offline gaming sessions. Click "Start Server".
Step 4. Run Counter-Strike
At this point, you can add friends and family members you want to play with on the server. Give them your computer's public IP address.
- In order for friends to join, they need to connect their computer to the server by typing “Connect” and your IP address on the console. For example, if your IP address is 12.34.567.89, they would need to type “Connect 12.34.567.89”.
- If you or your friends are having trouble connecting to the server, try turning off the computer firewall feature.
