In Minecraft, buttons act as switches. The button can send a stream of redstone to adjacent blocks when you press it.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Finding Materials

Step 1. Collect one stone or one wooden plank
Decide whether you want to make a wooden button or a stone button, then choose the appropriate material.
- Stones can be found by mining underground. If you're mining, you'll need a silk touch pickaxe. Or, you can mine ordinary stone, add it to the furnace and the stone will be processed according to your needs.
- Wooden planks are made from tree wood.
Method 2 of 4: Creating the Button

Step 1. Place the wood or stone into the crafting box
Place it into the center slot. All other slots must be left empty.

Step 2. Shift + click or drag to place the button in your inventory
Method 3 of 4: Searching for the Button

Step 1. Look for the naturally formed stone button inside the fort
They were next to the iron door. Mine with your pickaxe and walk across it to pick up the button.
Method 4 of 4: Using the Button

Step 1. Place the button on the side of the block
This is the only position that can be applied to a block.

Step 2. Make sure the button is placed next to an object that requires filling (eg a door)
Otherwise, the button requires a redstone wire to send the charge.

Step 3. Place the button on another object
Buttons can also be placed on the side of the furnace, chest, dispenser or workbench.
Tips
- The stone button redstone signal lasts for 1 second, while the wood button signal lasts 1.5 seconds.
- Mob can't activate button. However, an arrow shot by a skeleton can press a wooden button. Stone buttons cannot be activated with arrows.
- The button is only active when pressed. They stay in a pressed state for only a short time, then the button has to be pressed again if you want to use them for a long time.
- In version 1.8 (PC edition) you can place buttons on the floor and ceiling.
