Most people assume that a Pokémon with a high level can completely destroy a level 1 Pokémon. However, popular strategies like the famous F. E. A. R using Rattata can make weak Pokémon easily win battles against much stronger Pokémon. Follow the guide below to achieve victory in Pokémon battles and humiliate your enemies
Step
Step 1. Have the right skills
Get a male and female Rattata and teach them both Quick Attack (at level 4) and Endeavor (at level 44).
Step 2. Mat the two Rattatas you have at the Daycare Center, then incubate their eggs
This gives your Pokémon the Quick Attack and Endeavor abilities at Pokémon level 1.
Step 3. Get Focus Sash
Focus Sash can be obtained on route 221 (on DP/Pt), or obtained by exchanging 48 BP at places such as Battle Tower (on DP/Pt), in Battle Frontier (in HGSS), in Battle Subway (in BW/ BW2), and in Battle Maison (in XY and ORAS). You can also buy Focus Sash for 24 BP in Pokemon World Tournament (at BW2). Give the Level 1 Rattata Focus Sash for him to hold.
Step 4. Fight fairly strong Pokémon by using Rattata level 1 as your lead (main Pokémon)
If you're in the middle of a fight, put Rattata in the fight in a way that keeps him from getting hit by your opponent's attacks. This can be done by entering it when a Pokémon is failing (faint), or when your opponent uses a move that doesn't have an attack effect, or when a slower Pokémon uses the U-Turn, Volt Switch, or Batton Pass move after your opponent has attacked. Make sure there are no attacks in the fight when you put your Rattata into the fight. Also, make sure abilities like Hail and Sandstorm are inactive.
Any attack Rattata receives before it's turn or that doesn't leave 1 HP can damage your Ratatta's Focus Sash, thus making your Rattata lose
Step 5. Choose Endeavor as your first attack
Your opponent will likely attack your Rattata using an attack that kills your Rattata in one hit. Focus Sash will save Rattata from such attacks, and leave 1 HP remaining on your Ratatta. In this case, Endeavor will make your opponent have HP equal to Rattata, which is 1 HP.
If your opponent doesn't attack your Rattata or only has 1 HP left, and the Focus Sash on your Ratatta hasn't been damaged or destroyed, use Endeavor one more time
Step 6. Use Quick Attack to defeat the enemy
Since Quick Attacks have priority, this attack will always be done first (regardless of the speed of your Pokémon), unless the Quick Attack is used against another attack of equal priority. This attack will deal a minimum of 1 attack and is expected to defeat your opponent's Pokémon.
Tips
- This strategy can also be used on other Pokémon capable of learning Endeavor and attacks that have priority. You can also try this strategy by using Pokémon that have the Sturdy ability or items like Shell Bell or Berry Juice, as well as Endeavor and priority attacks. There are many other ability variations of Pokémon that can use this strategy.
- Kangaskhan and Tailow with Hidden Ability will have Scrappy's ability that can make them attack Ghost-type Pokémon.
- Extremespeed and Feint have a priority value of +2 which makes these abilities appear first compared to other priority attacks.
Warning
- If your opponent uses priority attack before you use Quick Attack, your Rattata will lose.
- If Rattata is hit by Burn or Poison, his Focus Sash will be damaged. If your Ratatta is incapacitated or exposed to magic that leaves him confused, all you need is a little luck.
- Weather attacks such as sandstorms and hail can damage Focus Sash. Such weather can appear without using an attack if a Pokémon like Tyranitar, Hipppowdon, or Abomasnow enters the fight. Ice type Pokémon (ice) will be resistant to hail attacks and Rock (rock), Ground (earth), Steel (Iron) type Pokémon will be resistant to sandstorm attacks.
- Because Ghost-type Pokémon are resistant to normal attacks and fighting attacks, Ratatta's Endeavor and Quick Attacks cannot work effectively.
- Shedinja will be resistant to all attacks in this strategy because of his abilities. However, Sucker Punch and Shadow Sneak attacks can damage him and, since Shedinja only has 1 basic HP, you can defeat him if his Focus Sash is damaged.
- Attacks such as Embargo and Magic Room will remove any effect on your Focus Sash. Other attacks like Trick, Switcheroo, Thief and Cover, as well as abilities like Magician and Pickpocket can pick up items your Pokémon is holding. Don't worry about the Knock Off attack as it will activate Focus Sash on your Pokémon before it knocks them out.
- Items like Rocky Helmet and abilities like Rough Skin and Iron Barbs can kill Rattata when your Ratatta uses Endeavor.
- A double strike aimed at Ratatta can destroy his Focus Sash.
- A leftover ability or other HP-recovering item possessed by an opposing Pokémon can prevent Rattata from defeating that Pokémon.
- Do not use this strategy in Double and Triple battles.
- If your opponent changes his Pokémon, it will stay alive. This can be overcome by using the Pursuit attack strategy.
