Kyogre is a legendary Water type Pokémon. Along with Groudon and Rayquaza, Kyogre is part of a legendary Pokémon group called the Weather Trio. In the Pokémon world, Kyogre has the ability to enlarge the ocean. You can catch Kyogre in Pokémon Emerald after completing the game's main story.
Step
Step 1. Defeat the Elite Four and the Champion
Before you can find and catch Kyogre, you'll need to complete the game's main story by defeating the Elite Four and the Champion in the Pokémon Emerald game named Cynthia. You will fight them all in a row. If you fail to defeat them, you will have to start the fight from the beginning. Therefore, make sure you have prepared your Pokémon as well as the necessary items.
- Buy Hyper Potions in large quantities. This item is a very effective potion in the game. Most Pokémon won't have HP (''hit points') more than 200 HP. Therefore, Hyper Potion has the same effectiveness as Max Potion at a lower price.
- Buy Revive in bulk too. After defeating one of the Elite Four, you must revive your main Pokémon with Revive if it faints.
- Make sure all the Pokémon in your party are level 56 or higher. Every Pokémon in your Party must be at least level 56 to defeat the Elite Four. If you have Rayquaza, use this Pokémon because it has a higher level than the Pokémon the Elite Four and Champions have.
- Save game data every time you beat an Elite Four member. By saving game data, you don't have to start over again if you fail to beat one of the Elite Four members.
Step 2. Level up the Pokémon to at least level 70
Kyogre is level 70, so you must have a Pokémon of the same or higher level to defeat it. Leveling up all the Pokémon in the Party will take a long time. Therefore, you should only level up for the main Pokémon. Rayquaza will help shorten this process as he is level 70 when you catch him. Grass (grass) and Electric (electric) type attacks can reduce Kyogre's HP quickly.
You must have a Pokémon that has a Dive to reach the cave where Kyogre is
Step 3. Buy a large number of Net Balls and Timer Balls
Net Balls are the most effective Poké Balls for catching Water-type Pokémon. Purchase at least 40 Net Balls before fighting Kyogre. The Timer Ball is also very useful and more effective than the Net Ball if the battle lasts more than 30 turns (turns).
- Make sure you have your Pokémon and necessary items ready before looking for Kyogre as he will keep moving around.
- If you have a Master Ball, you can use it to catch Kyogre instantly. However, note that there is only one Master Ball in Pokémon Emerald.
Step 4. Go to the Weather Institute on Route 119
After completing the game's main story, use Fly to quickly get to Fortree City. Walk west onto Route 119 and enter the Weather Institute which is in the northwest of the map.
Step 5. Talk to the scientist at the Weather Institute to find Kyogre's location
This character wears a scientist's outfit and can be found inside the Weather Institute. Note that Kyogre's location varies as he is constantly changing places. If Groudon is active, you have to catch him first or wait for the weather to change.
- If the scientist says “Heavy rainfall” or “Heavy downpour” on a certain Route, you can find Kyogre there. These routes include Route 105, Route 125, Route 127, and Route 129.
- If the scientist says "drought" on a certain route, it means that Groudon is still active. You can go to the Route to catch Groudon, or wait for the weather to change again and then talk to the scientist again.
Step 6. Go to the Route that was hit by heavy rain
Use Fly to reach the nearest town and then go to the Route mentioned by the scientist. As you walk, you will see the effects of rain and lightning on the screen.
Step 7. Use Surf to walk on water and look for dark areas
Dark areas will appear in the sea when it rains. The location of the area varies depending on the location. Therefore, you have to use Surf to find it.
Step 8. Use Dive when standing over a dark area
Use Dive when you are standing over a dark area in the ocean. After that, you will enter into an underwater cave.
Step 9. Enter the cave entrance
At the back of the underwater cave, you will see an entrance. Swim into it to enter the cave.
Step 10. Swim to the surface of the Marine Cave
After passing through the cave entrance, you will be asked to swim to the surface. After that, you will enter the Marine Cave.
Step 11. Save game data (save game)
Create game data before you fight Kyogre. This allows you to reload game data if you accidentally knock Kyogre out or lose all of your Pokémon. If Kyogre collapses, you won't be able to fight him anymore and will have to load game data.
Step 12. Fight Kyogre
Pass through the cave until you reach the pond where Kyogre is. He will approach you and the fight will begin.
Step 13. Reduce Kyogre's HP to red
Use Grass and Electric type attacks to significantly reduce Kyogre's HP. Make sure his HP is red before you use the Poke Ball.
If you want to use a Master Ball to catch Kyogre, throw it at the start of the fight and Kyogre will be captured instantly. Keep in mind that there is only one Master Ball in Pokémon Emerald
Step 14. Throw a Net Ball when Kyogre's HP is red
Net Ball has a better chance of catching Kyogre. Therefore, throw the item when Kyogre's HP is red whenever you have the chance.
Kyogre has an attack that puts him to sleep and restores all his HP. Don't be discouraged when this happens. Your chances of catching it increase when Kyogre is asleep, so keep throwing Net Balls. Attack Kyogre when he wakes up to reduce his HP
Step 15. Throw the Timer Ball when it's your 30th turn
When you have fought for 30 turns, the Timer Ball will be more effective than the Net Ball. Use these items to increase your chances of capturing Kyogre.
Step 16. Reload game data if you run out of Pokémon or Kyogre faints
Kyogre has an attack that will reduce his HP as well as your Pokémon's HP. This means that it may knock itself out when it attacks you. If passed out, Kyogre would disappear forever. You will have to kill the game and reload the game data if this happens. You'll also need to load game data in case all of your Pokémon faint because Kyogre will leave and you'll have to start looking for them again.
