Mew is one of the most sought-after Pokémon in the entire Pokémon series. Mews are considered rare due to the fact that they cannot be obtained through normal play. Mew is a Pokémon that was given away in special events held by Nintendo in the past. Unfortunately, since the special events ended a few years ago, there's no longer any legitimate way to get Mew in Pokémon Emerald. With the help of Action Replay or an emulator, you can access the island where Mew lives and capture it for yourself.
Step
Step 1. Start Pokémon Emerald with Action Replay installed or using an emulator
The only way to get Mew in Pokémon Emerald is to cheat. Mew was shared in a special event in 2005, and it was only then that Mew was legally available. Since the special event is long over, you'll have to cheat to get the Mew.
- Visual Boy Advance is one of the famous Game Boy Advance emulator and it supports Action Replay code.
- Look for articles with detailed guides to inserting code into actual Action Replays.
- Note: If you haven't reached Lilycove City in the game, the game order may be messed up when you visit Lilicove from Faraway Island. This mess can become a problem in the game and get you stuck. It would be better if you wait to use this code after successfully reaching Lilicove City via the normal path in the game.
Step 2. Prepare your team
You'll face Mew who is at level 30, and Mew can also transform into a Pokémon that you bring on your team. Mew is a good Pokémon to catch with Master Balls if you still have them, but you can also catch them the traditional way, by reducing their blood and throwing Poké Balls.
- If you don't have a Master Ball or don't want to use it, then provide an Ultra Ball and bring a Pokémon with the False Swipe skill to reduce Mew's blood. Mew is only level 30, so it doesn't take much damage, and you shouldn't accidentally kill him either. It helps if you bring a Pokémon that can give Mew a Sleep or Paralyze state.
- Since Mew is at level 30, you will need the Knuckle Badge (second badge) so that Mew will obey you once you catch him.
- If you have a legendary Pokémon in your team, Mew will be harder to catch. It is recommended that you keep legendary Pokémon at home and not take them with you on this trip.
Step 3. Click the Cheats menu, then select Cheat list
You need to enter the code for Faraway Island into the Action Replay or emulator.
Step 4. Click the button
Gameshark…. This will prompt you to enter a new code.
Step 5. Use cheats to get Master Ball (optional)
If you want to catch Mew using the Master Ball, but you don't have it anymore, you can use cheats to get as many of them as possible. Enter the following code, and when you enter the Poké Mart, all available stock balls are free Master Balls.

Step 6. Enter the teleport code to Faraway Island
Open the Cheat List again, then enter the Gameshark code. Enter the following code to take your character to Faraway Island, where Mew can be found.

Since you used cheats to reach Faraway Island, not specifically to get Mews, your Mews will be considered valid when a hack check is done
Step 7. Go inside the door or go to a different location
After entering the code, enter the door or head to a different location to teleport to Faraway Island.
Step 8. Turn off the Faraway Island code
Once you've teleported to Faraway Island, you must disable this code, or you'll never be able to change locations again. Open the Cheat List to uncheck the Faraway island code.
Step 9. Enter the forest area above the island
By following a winding path through the forest, you should be able to find a door to another area. The door to the second area is dark green and is under the trees. This door will take you deep into the forest. After entering the second area, you will see Mew in front of you.
- The door to enter the second area is on the right side of the forest at the top of the hill.
- If you move through the second area entrance and return to the start of Faraway Island, you must disable the Faraway Island teleport code. This code will move you to the start of Faraway Island each time you try to change locations.
Step 10. Chase Mew
Mew will keep trying to escape as long as you chase him in the grass. The grass will sway as a marker for Mew's escape direction. You have to chase him until he is cornered. Once Mew is cornered, talk to him to start the fight.
Step 11. Throw the Master Ball to catch Mew
If you have a Master Ball, you can throw it directly to catch Mew. If you don't have it, you'll need to reduce Mew's blood first.
Step 12. Reduce Mew's blood if you don't have a Master Ball
If you have to catch Mew with a traditional Poké Ball, you'll need to reduce her blood until the blood sticks are red.
- The easiest way to do this without killing Mew is to use False Swipe. False Swipe will reduce Mew's blood, but Mew's blood will not reach below 1.
- Giving Mew a Sleep or Paralyze state will make it much easier to catch.
Step 13. Leave Faraway Island
After capturing Mew, you can leave the island. Head back to the foothills to board the ship and head back to Lilycove City.
