This wikiHow teaches you how to charge a Kindle. You can charge your Kindle using the device's built-in USB cable that plugs into your computer, or you can purchase and use a charging adapter that plugs into a wall outlet to charge your Kindle through an electrical outlet.

Method 1 of 2: Using a Computer
Step 1. Look for the Kindle charging cable
Kindle's built-in cable is required to charge the device.
Step 2. Locate the end of the USB charging cable
The USB end is the larger part of the cable and is in the shape of a rectangular connector.
The other end of the USB cable (the smaller one) is called the "microUSB" connector with an oval shape
Step 3. Plug the USB end into a USB port on the computer
The other end of the USB cable must be plugged into one of the rectangular ports on the computer. Remember, the USB connection can only be plugged in one direction. So, if you can't get the other end of the cable into the USB port on your computer, rotate it 180 degrees and try plugging it back in.
- Not all USB ports can be used for charging. If your Kindle won't charge, try a different USB port.
- You can also use the USB port on the power strip if you have one.
Step 4. Look for the charging port on the Kindle
The charging port on the Kindle is located at the bottom of the case. You'll find a small oval-shaped port there.
Step 5. Plug the remaining end of the cable into the charging port on the Kindle
This end of the cable can be inserted into the oval port on the bottom of the device back and forth.
Step 6. Wait for the charging light to come on
When the Kindle starts charging, a yellow light at the bottom of the device will light up, and a lightning bolt icon will appear on the battery indicator in the upper-right corner of the screen.
When the Kindle is fully charged, the light will turn green
Step 7. Fix Kindle that won't charge
If the light doesn't come on after a few seconds, the Kindle isn't charging. You can do several things to work around this:
- Try using a different USB port to see if you have chosen the wrong port (can't charge Kindle).
- Force-restart the Kindle by pressing and holding the Power button for 20 to 30 seconds.

Step 1. Purchase a Kindle charging adapter
You can buy them online or at computer and electronics stores.
- The best place to buy the latest Kindle charging adapter is through online sellers such as Tokopedia, Shopee, Bukalapak, and so on.
- Some Kindles (eg Kindle Fire) come with a microUSB cable and A/C power adapter.
Step 2. Plug the charging adapter into a power outlet
This connector, which contains two small metal rods, can certainly be plugged into a wall outlet or power strip.
Step 3. Locate the end of the USB charging cable
The USB end is larger than the cable, and is a rectangular connector.
