This wikiHow teaches you how to charge your PlayStation 3 controller using the charging cable that came with the console.

Part 1 of 2: Charging PS3 Controller
Step 1. Press the PlayStation 3 power button
You'll find this button on the right side of the front of the console, although more powerful PS3 models usually have the power button on the back of the console. Once pressed, the PS3 will turn on.
Step 2. Locate the controller's charging cable
The PS3 comes with a USB cable to charge the controller. This cable has a large end (USB connection) and a small end that plugs into the PS3 controller.
- If you don't have a charging cable, you can buy one from buying and selling sites like Tokopedia or Bukalapak.
- Make sure you are using an original Sony charger, and not a third-party charging cable as non-Sony cables usually show inconsistencies in the charging process.
Step 3. Connect the USB end of the cable to the PS3
The USB connector can be inserted into one of the slots or flat rectangular ports on the front of the console.
- If the USB connector doesn't fit into the PS3's USB port, rotate the connector 180 degrees and try connecting again.
- The piece of plastic inside the USB cable should fit under the plastic plate at the top of the console's USB slot.
Step 4. Connect the small end of the cable to the PS3 controller
On the front of the controller there is a slot or small hole. You need to insert the small end of the cable into the hole.
Step 5. Press the controller power button
This button is a circle button with the PlayStation logo. A red light will flash on the front of the controller.
Step 6. Wait for the controller light to start flashing
After flashing, your PlayStation 3 controller starts charging.
Leave the controller attached to the charging cable for at least an hour before you remove it
Part 2 of 2: Troubleshooting PS3 Controller Problems
Step 1. Restart the controller
Insert the needle or paper clip into the small hole on the bottom of the controller, just below the L2 ”.
Step 2. Connect the controller to a different USB port on the console
If the controller is not charged, connecting the controller to the USB port helps you determine whether the charging problem is caused by the USB port or not.
Step 3. Connect the controller to the computer's USB port and turn it on
Even if the controller cannot be charged through the computer, the light will still come on when you press the power button while the controller is connected to the computer. If the controller light does not light up, the problem may be with the cable being used.
Step 4. Use a different charging cable
Sometimes the problem is caused by a failure or damage to the USB cable.
Third-party USB cables usually don't work for PlayStation so if you want to buy a new cable, make sure you choose the original Sony cable
Tips
- You can get back to playing games and using the PS3 charger while the device is charging, but make sure to keep the device connected to the console via a USB cable to keep it fully charged.
- To check the battery level on the controller, press and hold the PlayStation logo button on the controller for about two seconds. The battery charge level will be briefly displayed on the television or computer screen.
