Airplane Mode turns off cellular service on your Android device so you can keep your phone on when you're flying. Airplane mode is also useful when you don't want to be bothered by phone calls but still want to use your phone or to save your phone's battery. After enabling airplane mode, you can turn on the Wi-Fi signal and “Bluetooth” again without turning airplane mode off.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Using the Notification Panel
Step 1. Swipe down from the top of the screen
This will open your device's notification panel.
Step 2. Scroll down one more time if you don't find the “Airplane mode” button
On some devices, the “Airplane mode” button will appear directly in the notification panel. On other devices, you'll have to swipe down again to bring up additional options.
Some devices do not have “Airplane mode” option in the notification panel. In such cases, see the next section
Step 3. Tap on the "Airplane mode" button
This button can be an airplane icon or a label. Tapping this button will activate airplane mode.
Method 2 of 4: Using the Settings Menu
Step 1. Open the “Settings” app on your device
You can find this application on your “Home screen” (main screen) or “App Drawer” (menu of all applications on your device). You can access the settings from the shortcut on the notification panel.
Step 2. Tap "More" or "More networks"
You can find this option under the first few options in the settings menu.
This may not be necessary. Some devices will display an "Airplane Mode" or "Flight Mode" option in the main settings menu
Step 3. Check the "Airplane mode" or "Flight mode" checkbox
This will activate airplane mode on your device.
Step 4. Make sure airplane mode is on
The airplane mode icon will replace your cellular signal bar. This is a sign that airplane mode is active.
See the next section to find out how to turn Wi-Fi or “Bluetooth” signal back on after turning on airplane mode
Method 3 of 4: Using the “Power” Menu
This method usually works on most Android phones, but not all.
Step 1. Press and hold the “Power” button
After a few moments, the “power” menu will appear.
Step 2. Choose "Airplane Mode" or "Flight Mode"
Some devices will only display the silhouette of the airplane, not the words "Airplane Mode".
If you don't have an airplane mode option, see the next section
Step 3. Make sure airplane mode is on
You can tell when airplane mode is on by looking at the airplane mode icon in the notification bar. This icon will replace the cellular signal bar indicating that your cellular service has been disabled. Method 4 of 4: Turn on Wi-Fi or “Bluetooth”
Step 1. Know when you can turn on Wi-Fi or “Bluetooth”
In 2013, the FAA (United States national aviation authority) stated that smartphones that did not transmit a cellular signal could be used during flights. You can turn on the Wi-Fi or “Bluetooth” antenna at any time while your device is in airplane mode, but most flights don't provide Wi-Fi service below 10,000 feet.
Step 2. Open the settings menu on your device
This menu can be found on your “Home screen” or “App Drawer”, and some devices have a shortcut in the notification bar.
Step 3. Turn on Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is turned off automatically when you turn on airplane mode on your device, but you can turn Wi-Fi back on when cellular service is off.
Step 4. Turn on “Bluetooth”
Like Wi-Fi, “Bluetooth” will be disabled automatically when airplane mode is enabled. You can turn on “Bluetooth” again through the settings menu.
