Apple has designed their line of iPad tablets to be easy to use. Even so, you may still need help turning it on after the device is removed from the box. Or maybe you should know how to reboot when the device freezes or experiences errors. You can use several techniques to get your iPad up and running.
Step
Method 1 of 5: Turning On iPad
Step 1. Press the "sleep/wake" button (power button)
iPad has two physical buttons, namely the "sleep/wake" button on the top and the "home" button on the front of the tablet. The "sleep/wake" button is the button at the top of the iPad, to the right of the camera lens.
Step 2. Keep pressing the "sleep/wake" button until the Apple logo appears
Your device's battery may run out if the logo doesn't appear within five seconds. You should charge the iPad for fifteen minutes to half an hour with the charger plugged into a wall outlet
Step 3. Swipe right to open iPad
Press the round On button, and drag it to the right.
If the iPad is starting up for the first time, you'll need to go through the steps to set it up
Method 2 of 5: Problem When Turning On iPad
Step 1. Connect your iPad to a computer that has iTunes installed
If your iPad has trouble completing the startup process, we recommend that you update the software on the iPad. For example, if your device's screen only shows blue or red, or the Apple icon freezes on the screen, run an update on that iPad to restart your device.
- Updates allow you to reinstall iOS software without having to delete the data on the device. Your iPad will work again if you can run this update.
- If your computer doesn't have iTunes installed, borrow a computer with iTunes installed.
Step 2. Force iPad to restart
This action is a last resort. Press the home button and sleep/wake. Don't release the button when the Apple icon appears. Keep pressing the sleep/wake button until the recovery mode screen appears.
Step 3. Click the Update button
Do not select the Restore button. After you force the iPad to restart, a screen will appear. Follow the given steps to update iOS software on your iPad.
If your iPad takes more than fifteen minutes to download the update, your iPad will close the update. If this happens, repeat the steps above to try updating your iOS software again
Method 3 of 5: Charging iPad
Step 1. Plug in your iPad
If the device won't turn on, your iPad may not have enough power. You'll need to charge the iPad for at least half an hour to have enough power to turn it on.
- Plug the small end of the iPad charging cable into the bottom of the iPad. Plug the charger into a wall outlet. A power outlet can charge iPad more quickly than if you were charging it using a computer.
- After a few minutes of charging, your iPad's screen will show a low battery icon.
- If the battery icon doesn't appear within an hour, make sure the power adapter, USB cable, and connector are working properly. Make sure you have securely plugged and/or plugged each part into a power outlet. If your iPad battery still won't charge, try using a different charger, and/or do some testing to make sure that the power outlet you're using is still working properly.
- The battery on an iPad fresh out of the box is usually not fully charged. If you want to use it, be prepared to charge it for at least half an hour.
- If you don't have a power outlet to charge your iPad, you can connect the iPad to your computer via a USB port. Be aware that it will take you longer to charge iPad using a computer, because computers can't provide as much power to your device. Make sure you have turned on your computer before starting to charge iPad.
Step 2. Wait for thirty minutes, then turn on the iPad
Press and hold the sleep/wake button until the device turns on. If iPad still won't turn on, wait another half hour.
If iPad still won't turn on, make sure that the power adapter, USB cable, and connector are working properly. Make sure each part is securely plugged in. If it still won't turn on, try another charger, and/or do some testing to make sure the outlet you're using is working properly
Step 3. Swipe right to use your iPad
Once turned on, the device will display the charge percentage in the upper right corner of the screen.
Method 4 of 5: Restarting iPad
Step 1. Restart your iPad
If the device is having problems loading and running slowly, you may need to restart the iPad, turning it off and on again. To fix your iPad problem, restart it first before you try other options. Restarting an iPad is easy, and it's harmless to the device.
- Press the "sleep/wake" button, which is at the top of the iPad.
- Keep pressing the "sleep/wake" button, until a slider appears at the top of the screen. This can take a few seconds.
- To turn off iPad, swipe the red slider to the right. Wait for the iPad to completely turn off.
- Turn your iPad back on. Swipe right back to use the iPad.
Step 2. Go back to the app you were using
See if your issue is resolved. Try running a function that used to have problems when you did it.
If the problem doesn't go away, contact Apple support for help with the problem with your device
Step 3. Force iPad to restart, but use this as a last resort
If your iPad just shows a blank screen that doesn't turn on and you've tried charging it, maybe you can force the iPad to restart. Restarting and forcing iPad to restart are two different things. If the iPad is having major issues with not responding or not working, you may need to force the device to restart. Only do this if you have tried other methods and contacted Apple support for help. You can force the device to restart even if the buttons aren't responding, or the screen is blank or black.
- Hold down the home button and the sleep/wake button at the same time. Hold down both buttons for at least ten seconds.
- Release the button when the Apple icon appears.
- Swipe right to use your iPad.
