You'll definitely have a hard time finding a date if the Tinder app stops responding frequently. If the Tinder app installed on your Android or iOS device often stops responding, you can fix it by force closing or updating the app. However, what should you do if these two methods don't work? If an app stops responding, this could be due to many things. Learning how to find and solve problems will help you solve issues on Tinder.
Step
Part 1 of 5: Closing Other Apps
Step 1. Turn off and on again (restart) the device
Before following the steps listed in this method, you can try turning the device off and on again. Usually problems that appear in the application can be fixed by doing this step.
- For iOS: Press and hold the side button of the device. After that, slide the slider that appears on the screen to the “Off” position to turn off the device. Press the side button again to turn on the device.
- For Android: Press and hold the side button of the device and tap "Power Off" that appears on the screen to turn off the device. Press and hold the side button again to turn on the device. You can also tap the "Reboot" option (Reboot) to turn the device off and on automatically.
Step 2. Open Tinder
Tap the Tinder icon on the home screen to try using it again.
Step 3. View all active apps
If Tinder stops responding, it may be because of the large number of active apps consuming the device's memory. Here's how to see a list of active apps:
- For iOS: Double-click the Home button to see all active apps.
- For Android: Tap the square button at the bottom right of the screen to see all the active apps.
Step 4. Swipe the app you want to close
Closing applications that you are not using can help free up memory and improve device performance.
- If you're using iOS, swipe up on the app to close it.
- If you are using Android, swipe the app to the right to close it.
Step 5. Open Tinder to check if this app can work without any glitches
If Tinder continues to crash, check your device again.
Part 2 of 5: Force Close Tinder
Step 1. Open the application manager on the device
The Tinder developers recommend that users force close Tinder if the app stops responding. To force close Tinder, open the app manager on the device:
- For iOS: Double-click the Home button to see all active apps.
- For Android: Open the "Settings" application and select "Apps" in the menu.
Step 2. Force close Tinder
How to force close Tinder is slightly different depending on the device's operating system:
- For iOS: Swipe up on Tinder to close it.
- For Android: Tap “Tinder” to open the “App info” menu (App Info) and tap the “Force Stop” button (Force Stop). Tap the "OK" button if prompted. Don't close this menu because you have to do one more step.
Step 3. Clear app data (for Android)
You can skip this step if you are using an iOS-based device. Clearing Android app data can help repair corrupted data. You will need to sign in again to your Tinder account after deleting app data.
- Tap "Storage" (Storage) on the "App info" menu.
- Tap "Clear data" and tap "OK" button to confirm.
Step 4. Open Tinder
If you're using Android and have deleted app data, log back into your Tinder account when prompted. Try using Tinder to see if the problem has been fixed. Otherwise, continue diagnosing the device and follow the steps below.
Part 3 of 5: Updating Tinder
Step 1. Open the App Store (for iOS) or Play Store (for Android)
The Tinder developers recommend that you use the latest version of Tinder on your device. When Tinder got the upgrade, the developers of this app fixed a bug that made other apps incompatible with Tinder. You can start upgrading Tinder by going to the App Store or Play Store on your device.
Step 2. Search for the Tinder app on the App Store or Play Store
Type “Tinder” in the search bar and select the app in the search results.
Step 3. Find out if a Tinder update is available
If Tinder needs an update, you'll see a button that says "Update." If you have the latest version of Tinder, the button will say "Open".
Step 4. Tap the “Update” button to install the update
If the button contains the words “Update,” tap the button. After that, your device will download and install the update.
Step 5. Open Tinder after installing the update
If you've updated Tinder, the app should work without any issues. If not, follow the next method.
Part 4 of 5: Reinstalling Tinder
Step 1. Delete Tinder on the device
If the previous methods did not solve the problem, the next step is to uninstall and reinstall Tinder. How to perform this process varies depending on the device's operating system:
- For iOS: Tap and hold the Tinder icon until it wiggles, and then tap the “X” button that appears on the screen.
- For Android: Tap and hold the Tinder icon in the app directory. After that, drag the icon to the "Uninstall" link at the top of the screen.
Step 2. Open the App Store (for iOS) or Play Store (for Android)
After performing the previous steps, you will need to reinstall Tinder.
Step 3. Search for the Tinder app on the App Store or Play Store

Step 5. Open Tinder
Once Tinder is installed, tap its icon on the home screen.
Step 6. Log in to your Tinder account with your Facebook account
You will need to reconnect Tinder with your Facebook account after installing it. Tap “Log In with Facebook” and log into your account by entering your username and password. Tap the “OK” button to re-enable Tinder if prompted.
Step 7. Use Tinder to test it
Scroll through Tinder members and view their profiles. Notice if Tinder starts to stop responding or shuts down suddenly. When newly installed, this application should be able to work without experiencing interference.
- If you are still having problems after performing the methods listed in this article, this issue may be caused by a problem with your phone's hardware or operating system.

Part 5 of 5: Installing the Old Version of Tinder
Step 1. Open the Settings menu on Android
If you're using an Android device and the methods listed in this article don't solve your problem, you can install an older version of Tinder. To do this step, you'll need to change your Android settings so you can install apps from outside the Play Store.
We recommend that you only use the latest version of Tinder whenever possible. You can use this method as a temporary workaround until the latest update is released
Step 2. Tap Security on the Settings menu
If you're using an older version of Android and can't find the "Security" option, select "Applications" (Applications).
Step 3. Slide the “Unknown Sources” switch to “On” position
After that, you will see a pop-up window (a small window containing certain information) that warns you about the dangers of installing applications from unknown sources. Read this message carefully and tap the "OK" button to accept it.
Step 4. Remove Tinder from Android device
Tap and hold on the Tinder icon located in the app directory. After that, drag the icon to the "Uninstall" link at the top of the screen.
Step 5. Open https://tinder.en.uptodown.com/android in your browser
Uptodown is a website that allows you to download older versions of apps. The application file downloaded from Uptodown contains the “.apk” extension at the end of its name.
Step 6. Click the “Versions” button
You can see this button under the green “Download” button. Clicking this button will display a list of older versions of Tinder that can be downloaded in ".apk" format.
Step 7. Click on the desired version of Tinder to download it
The versions of the apps shown on the list are arranged by release date. The most recent version of the app is placed at the top of the list. If Tinder starts to stop responding after getting the recently released update, try using an earlier version of Tinder.
Tap the "OK" button on the browser to confirm the download if prompted
Step 8. Tap on the “Downloads” icon (Downloads) located inside the app directory
Once the file has been downloaded, you will see a file named “tinder-6-0-0.apk” in the Downloads directory.
Step 9. Tap the Tinder APK file to start the installation
Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to install Tinder on your device.
Step 10. Run Tinder
Once Tinder is installed, its icon will appear in the application directory. Tap the icon to launch Tinder and use the app as usual. If Tinder stops responding after getting an update, you can use an earlier version of the app until the issue is fixed in a later version.
You can delete this version of Tinder any time you want in the same way you delete other apps
Tips
- Set your phone to install updates automatically. That way, you always have the latest version of Tinder (and other apps).
- Be careful when meeting someone you know from Tinder.
