Step
Method 1 of 2: Rolling Tableware with Paper Napkins
Step 1. Prepare tableware and square paper napkins
You can use any type of cutlery or napkin. You can choose white, solid-colored, or patterned napkins. Just make sure it's really square and big enough to hold your cutlery.
- Make sure the napkins used are made of quality and durable materials. Napkins should not tear when folded.
- Don't use cocktail napkins that are only 24 cm long. Use 25-30 cm table napkins that can wrap standard sized cutlery.
Step 2. Place the knife on the napkin diagonally
First of all, lay the napkin on the table. After that, place the dinner knife on it diagonally. The tip of the dinner knife should be slightly off the edge of the napkin, about 1.3 cm.
The position of the cutlery is very important as this will determine the extent of the rolled cutlery when it is finished. Make sure the knife doesn't stick out too much or the cutlery will fall off the napkin
Step 3. Stack the spoon and fork on top of the dinner knife
After putting down the knife, place the fork on it, then place the spoon on top of the fork. Cutlery should be stacked neatly and the handles should be parallel to each other. Hold the cutlery so it doesn't fall down while continuing the next process.
Step 4. Fold the bottom corner of the napkin to the edge of the tableware
While holding the cutlery in place, grab the end of the napkin with your other hand and fold it into the protruding portion of the cutlery. Make sure the cutlery doesn't fall over while doing this.
If the bottom corner can't be folded, slide the cutlery a little
Step 5. Fold the edge of the napkin onto the tableware, then roll it up
Take the end of the napkin and fold it over to the tableware handle on the opposite corner. Fold until the napkin covers the cutlery well, but not too tightly. You certainly don't want the napkin to tear. Once the tableware is covered with the napkin, roll it up until the napkin can hold it in place.
Step 6. Use a rubber napkin to hold the cutlery
If you're worried that the cutlery will fall, hold it in place with a rubber napkin. You can get colorful rubber napkins online or in stores. Most of these rubbers are self-adhesive so you just need to wrap them around the napkin to keep them from falling off.
If you're using rolled up napkins for a special occasion, you can find online stores that provide custom-made rubber napkins
Step 7. Make a knot or stick a ribbon on the napkin as an additional decoration
Give it a personal touch by adding a ribbon or knot to the napkin. You can tie a simple bow tie or bow, depending on your taste. If the napkin has rubber to hold it back, you can wrap a decorative ribbon or knot in the center of the rubber.
- Customize the appearance of your tableware with the event being held. For example, for a graduation party, wrap tableware with white napkins and red ribbon to make it look like a formal diploma.
- You can put rolled napkins in the basket for a luxurious look.
Method 2 of 2: Making Decorative Bags from Paper Napkins
Step 1. Prepare a paper napkin in the shape of a square with the color and decoration you like
If you want to make decorative napkin bags for tableware, look for napkins with beautiful patterns or prints instead of plain white napkins. It will make your desk look cool and stylish. There are various patterns to choose from, especially during the holiday season.
- Some decorative napkins have pretty colors and patterns on the outside, but plain on the inside. Make sure you follow the instructions below carefully so that the pattern you want to show can be seen when the bag is finished.
- You can use any size napkin, as long as it's square.
Step 2. Unfold the folded napkin, then spread it out on the table
Napkins are usually folded when sold. To make a small bag, unfold the napkin and place it on the table with the colored side facing up. This way, when the bag is finished, the colored part will be visible from the outside.
Step 3. Fold the napkin in half so that it is a rectangle
Once the napkin is spread out on the table, take the bottom edge and fold it to create a rectangular shape. The end of the napkin that is closest to you should be level with the other end. When folding it, the back of the napkin should be visible. In other words, the colored part of the napkin is now folded inwards.
Step 4. Fold the napkin one more time so that it is a square
Next, fold the napkin one more time from right to left. The ends must be parallel. Now, the shape of the napkin appears to be square again, as it was before you unfolded it. However, now the patterned or colored parts are hidden. The back of the napkin is now outside and the fold is on the right side.
Make sure you fold it neatly so that the square is flat and straight
Step 5. Fold the very top of the napkin in half diagonally
The napkin is now square with a crease on the right side. Take the very top of the left side of the napkin, then pull it to the bottom right corner. This will result in a diagonal crease from the top right corner to the bottom left corner. After that, press it until it produces a crease. This crease will make the pattern or color of the napkin visible again.
Step 6. Turn the napkin over and fold the right and left sides inward
Now, lift the left side of the napkin and flip it over to the back. Fold the right side over to the center of the napkin, about 1/3 the width of the napkin. Then, do the same on the right side. Press the napkin until there are clear crease marks. The napkin is now a square with two folds overlapping each other.
Step 7. Insert the crease from the left corner of the napkin to the right corner
Unfold a little on the left side, you will see a small diagonal “pocket” in the corner. Take the corner of the fold at the top of the napkin and put it in the "pocket". This method is useful for holding cutlery in place.
Step 8. Turn the napkin over and put the cutlery into the bag made
Now, turn the napkin over and put the cutlery in the “pocket”. You can place the cutlery side by side or as you wish. It's finished!
- Be careful not to tear the napkins when inserting the cutlery.
- You can decorate napkins that have been folded into a bag with colored string or ribbon. However, remember that these napkins are pretty unadorned; especially if it already has a decorative pattern.
