Folding decorative table napkins will enhance the layout of a table. Each napkin fold should be made with a freshly ironed cloth napkin. Try to use napkins with festive fan folds, pockets, pyramids or rose folds at your next dinner.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Fan Fold
Step 1. Place the ironed rectangular napkin on the dining table
The bigger the napkin, the bigger your fan will be. Smooth the surface so that there are no wrinkles.
Step 2. Fold it in half horizontally
Step 3. Fold the napkin 5 cm from one side of the napkin
Repeat the fold every 5 cm until you start forming a fan. Stop when you reach 10 cm from the other side of the napkin.
Step 4. Hold the fan at both ends
Fold in half horizontally. The remaining 10 cm of cloth should be inside the fan, not outside.
Step 5. Tuck the top corner of the remaining 10cm into the fan
Make sure you tuck them in properly to create a solid fan base.
Step 6. Place the bottom of the napkin fan on a plate and allow the napkin to expand into a semi-circle
Method 2 of 4: Pocket Fold
Step 1. Spread the freshly ironed napkin on your table
Step 2. Fold the napkin in half vertically
Trim the folds back. You will need to even out the creases in the napkin no matter what shape of napkin you choose.
Step 3. Fold the napkin horizontally, up to two-thirds the length of the napkin
Step 4. Fold the bottom of the napkin up as well, so that the bottom of the napkin meets the same point as the folded top two-thirds of the length of the napkin
The napkin will have doubled at that point.
Step 5. Turn the napkin over
You will fold both sides of the napkin into the center vertically. Fold the left side into the center first.
Step 6. Pull the right side into the center and tuck it under the left side
Use the folds you have made.
Step 7. Turn the napkin carefully
You will get a pocket that you can use to put your fork, knife and spoon.
Method 3 of 4: Pyramid Fold
Step 1. Place a square napkin on your table
Adjust the corners so the napkin forms a diamond facing you, not a square.
Step 2. Fold it in half, pulling the bottom edge of the napkin up to the top
Make up.
Step 3. Pull the left corner up to meet the top edge of the napkin
Step 4. Pull the right corner up to meet the top edge of the napkin
Step 5. Turn the napkin over
Fold the bottom edge of the napkin up to the top of the napkin. You will have a triangle now.
Step 6. Lift the center of the triangle up
Pinch the outer edges of the triangle together. Place the pyramid on your plate.
Method 4 of 4: Rose Folds
Step 1. Choose a square napkin, iron it and place it on your dining table
Step 2. Fold each end to the center of the napkin
Turn the napkin over with the folds still in place.
Step 3. Fold each corner to the center again
Step 4. Place an inverted glass in the center of the napkin
The cup should cover each end of the napkin evenly. Press the glass with your non-dominant hand.
Step 5. Reach under 1 corner
Grasp the fold slowly and pull it out until the end is about 0.6 cm further from the top corner. This step will create the appearance of the petals.
Step 6. Repeat on each corner
Keep pressure on the glass, so the napkin doesn't pop.
