Step
Method 1 of 4: Preparing the Chicken
Step 1. Store the chicken immediately in the refrigerator or freezer if you don't want to cook it yet
Chicken can be stored in the coldest part of the refrigerator for two days. If you plan to cook it a few days later or for a longer period of time, the chicken should be frozen immediately. Do not cook part of the chicken and then store it in the refrigerator. This will trigger the growth of bacteria.
Step 2. Wash the chicken
You should wash the chicken in cold water before cooking, whether it's a whole chicken, chicken legs, chicken thighs, or other parts. Chicken that has been soaked in spices and prepared, means it has been pre-washed. Use gloves when washing chickens so that your hands are not contaminated with bacteria from chickens. Wash your hands before and after washing the chicken.
After that, wash all the items used to prepare the chicken such as knives, cutting boards, and the sink
Step 3. Dry the chicken
Dry the chicken with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
Step 4. Cook the chicken
If it has been washed and dried, then the chicken is ready to be cooked. Use a meat thermometer to check the correct temperature before the chicken is ready to eat, whether it's baking, grilling, or sautéing. Cooked chicken should reach a temperature of 74°C. Step 5. Store the uncooked chicken immediately
When freezing chicken, wrap the chicken parts separately in aluminum foil or frozen food wrap. This method facilitates the process of thawing frozen chicken according to the desired amount. Proper packaging prevents the appearance of “freezer burn,” or food that spoils from drying and oxidation on contact with air.
- Fried chicken - 3 -4 days in the fridge, 4 months in the freezer
- Cooked chicken casserole - 3-4 days in the refrigerator, 4-6 months in the freezer
- Chicken pieces - 3-4 days in the refrigerator, 4 months in the freezer
- Chicken chunks with broth, gravy - 1-2 days in the refrigerator, 6 months in the freezer
- Chicken nuggets, patties - 1-2 days in the fridge, 1-3 months in the freezer
Method 2 of 4: "Grilled Chicken"
Step 1. Put the chicken feet in the bag
Step 2. Make the marinade
Combine olive oil, salt, pepper, chilies, cumin, and cayenne pepper in a bowl. Mix well.
Step 3. Pour the marinade all over the chicken legs
Pour the marinade into the bag with the chicken and close it again. Remove air from the bag and close it. Shake the bag so that the chicken is completely coated. Place the bag on a flat tray and refrigerate for an hour or overnight for best results. Turn the bag back and forth every few hours so that the chicken is coated in fresh seasoning.
Step 4. Prepare the grill
Coat the dish with olive oil. Preheat the grill to 176°C.
Step 5. Place the chicken on the grill
Cook the chicken until the surface is crisp and brown. Turn the chicken every few minutes so that both sides are evenly cooked. The temperature of the chicken should reach 73.8°C when it is cooked. The cooked chicken is served on a plate and left for 3-5 minutes before eating.
Step 6. Serve
Enjoy this delicious chicken while it's warm.
Method 3 of 4: "Baked Chicken"
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 200°C
Step 2. Grease the dish with butter
Grease all sides of the dish with enough butter.
Step 3. Combine sour cream, Dijon mustard, garlic, and pepper in a large bowl
Step 4. Add the chicken to the mixture
Add 4 skinless and boneless chicken breasts to the mixture. Flip the chicken in the mixture so that the entire surface is coated with the spices. Place the chicken in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes to allow the spices to absorb into the chicken.
Step 5. Coat the chicken with cornflakes and soup mixture
Combine cornflakes and onion soup mix in a bowl. Roll and coat the chicken breast in the mixture. Remove excess mixture residue.
Step 6. Place the chicken breast on a plate
Drizzle 3 tablespoons of melted butter over the surface of the chicken.
Step 7. Bake the chicken for 20-25 minutes until it is golden brown
If the thermometer shows 74°C, this means the chicken is cooked.
Method 4 of 4: "Sauteed Chicken"
Step 1. Spray a 30 cm nonstick skillet with cooking spray. Place on the stove over medium heat
Step 2. Mix flour and pepper in a bowl
Sprinkle the mixture all over the surface of the chicken.
Step 3. Cook the chicken by sauté (cooked in a little oil)
Fry the chicken until the bottom is golden. This process takes 6-7 minutes. If the pan doesn't hold enough of the whole chicken, do two stages of cooking.
Step 4. Turn the chicken over and cook the reverse side
This process takes an additional 4-5 minutes.
Step 5. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside
Step 6. Put the stock in the pan
Remove the remaining chicken pieces from the broth with a wooden spoon.
Step 7. Put the chicken back in the skillet, cover, and simmer the chicken over low heat
This process takes about 3 minutes.
Step 8. Add lemon juice and capers
Heat the chicken for 30 seconds while stirring. When done, remove the chicken and cool in a separate container for 5-10 minutes.
Step 9. Serve
Serve these delicious chicken thighs warm.
Shopping Tips
-
Read the label.
Before cooking, make sure the chicken is of good quality.
- In the United States (US), if the chicken is labeled “fresh”, it means that the temperature is not below -3°C. If the chicken has been frozen before, the label will be “frozen” or “pre-frozen”.
- Look for “sold by” or “used before” dates as a guide. In the US, chickens do not need to be labeled as such. However, many shops and manufacturers affix the date to indicate the quality of the chicken. After the date stated, the chicken can still be eaten, but the quality is reduced. Frozen chicken is still safe to eat even after the date stated.
-
Choose the right piece of chicken.
Whichever part you choose, avoid meat with a pungent smell or bruised skin.
- Whole chicken - there are special fried or grilled chickens, sizes from small to large.
- Chicken quarter parts – the leg quarter consists of the thigh and leg. The breast quarter consists of the chest and wings.
- Whole chicken ready to cut-whole chicken cut into 9 or 8 pieces, without back.
- Thighs and chest – Sold boneless and/or skinless.
- Chicken liver – packaged separately.
-
Neck, legs, comb, and so on – only available in areas where there is a demand.
- Cook chicken within two days of purchase or freeze at -17°C or below. If kept frozen, chicken will always be safe to eat. To prevent freezer burn, put the chicken in a special frozen food plastic.
Tips
-
A delicious “storage” idea: When the shelf life is “nearing out”, treat the chicken with a new twist so it can be stored longer:
- Cook the chicken with barbecue sauce, sliced onions, or doused with gravy sauce. This will refresh the natural flavor of the chicken. Other times, add this chicken preparation by making it into:
- Chicken pizza, spaghetti, soup or stew. There are many other alternatives.
- Make Indian chicken curry. Indian spices can be purchased at Indian grocery stores or in the international food section of supermarkets. Cut the tomatoes and onions and follow the directions on the instant seasoning package.
-
Don't forget to add seasoning to the chicken. The chicken will taste bland if it is not seasoned. Add spices to balance the taste. Make a simple condiment consisting of cooking oil, salt, and minced garlic. Coat the mixture and rub it over the surface of the chicken. It tastes like a classic grilled chicken dish.
- To cook Indian chicken (chicken curry), add curry spices. This condiment can be purchased at your local grocery store, Indian grocery store, or international grocery store.
- Chop the tomatoes and onions. Stir fry with chicken. Here's how to make chicken goulash or gumbo, which is just as delicious!
- Thaw frozen chicken in the refrigerator, microwave, or drizzle in cold water. Defrosted chicken can be cooked within 1-2 days or refrozen (as long as the chicken is in the refrigerator constantly). Chicken thawed in cold water or in the microwave should be cooked immediately. Don't thaw chicken by simply placing it at room temperature. Do not cook frozen chicken in the microwave or slow cooker. Frozen chicken can be cooked on the stove or in the oven, but the cooking time will increase to 50 percent.
Things that must be considered
- Watch for oil/grease splashes. If the skin or eyes are exposed to a large amount of hot oil, it will sting and can cause injury.
- Be careful using sharp kitchen utensils.
- Microwaved chicken can cook unevenly. This can increase the risk of food poisoning. If children or people who are prone to health problems want to eat chicken dishes, then cooking with this method is not recommended.
- When you want to cook chicken, always make sure the chicken is processed according to the thorough procedure. Wash all utensils used to cook chicken (knives, cutting boards, etc.) to prevent the spread of bacteria. Chicken is delicious, but prioritize safety and health in cooking chicken.
