Boiled chicken is delicious, easy to serve, and (most interestingly) very healthy. Serve boiled chicken as a main course or add boiled chicken to soups you cook yourself. There are three ways to cook delicious boiled chicken.
Ingredients
Ordinary Boiled Chicken
- 4 skinless chicken breasts (200 g each)
- medium yellow onion.
- 1 medium sized carrot
- 1 stalk of celery
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1/2 lemon (optional)
- 1 teaspoon coarse salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper seeds
- 3 sprigs of thyme or parsley
Boiled Chicken Wrapped in Plastic
- 1 skinless chicken breast (200 g)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- A few pinches of salt
- A few pinches of dried herbs (tarragon, oregano, basil, rosemary, thyme, cumin, or paprika)
Boiled Chicken with Milk or Cream
- One chicken breast
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 2 cups cream or 2% milk
- For a low-fat option, use cooking spray (eg Pam), and skim milk instead of cream or 2% milk.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Regular Boiled Chicken
Step 1. Cut the vegetables and chicken
Use a cutting board and a sharp knife. Handle the knife carefully. Chop the chicken after you have finished cutting all the other ingredients. Make sure that the raw chicken or its juices don't come into contact with other ingredients before cooking.
- Cut the onion in half. You will only need half an onion.
- Cut the carrots into three.
- Cut the celery stalks into three.
- Peel the garlic cloves
- Slice the lemon into thin slices. Adding lemon is not mandatory.
Step 2. Combine all ingredients other than chicken in a skillet or saucepan
Pour the water into the cooking bowl until the ingredients are submerged in water to a height of about 1.3 cm above the surface of the ingredients.
Step 3. Bring water and ingredients to a boil
Cover the pot or skillet.
Step 4. Open the lid and add the chicken breast
Let the pot boil again, but without using the lid. Cook for 3 minutes.
Step 5. Cover the pot again, then remove it from the heat source
Let the pan sit for 15 to 18 minutes, but remember to flip the chicken for about 8 minutes. At this point, the chicken should be thoroughly cooked.
Step 6. Check to make sure that the chicken is thoroughly cooked
The chicken meat should be whitish in color. Remove the meat from the broth and serve.
Method 2 of 3: Plastic Wrapped Boiled Chicken
Step 1. Buy good quality plastic wrap
Look for plastic wrap that can withstand high temperatures. If the plastic box says that plastic can be used in the microwave, then the plastic is fine. The plastic must be able to withstand heat because it will be put in boiling water.
Step 2. Trim all the chicken fat
If you're buying lean chicken, chances are this step won't be necessary. Cut the chicken lengthwise.
Step 3. Combine lemon juice, salt and herbs in a bowl
Stir well so that the salt and herbs are evenly distributed. Add the chicken breast pieces to the bowl. Make sure that all the pieces of meat are evenly coated with the lemon juice mixture. Leave the chicken pieces in the lemon juice mixture for a few minutes.
Step 4. Bring 2, 4 L of water to a boil in a saucepan
Step 5. Tear off a long piece of plastic wrap
The plastic wrap should be at least twice as long as the chicken breast pieces. Remove the chicken pieces from the lemon juice mixture and place the meat right in the middle of the plastic wrap sheet.
Step 6. Roll the chicken meat tightly in the plastic wrap
When you roll it up, remove as much air from the plastic wrap and the chicken as possible. Wrap the chicken as tightly as possible in the plastic wrap so that the chicken can be boiled well.
Step 7. Hold the plastic at both ends of the chicken as if you were holding a rolling pin
Roll the wrapped chicken out on a flat surface (such as a cutting board) as if you were rolling it with a rolling pin. This way, the chicken will be wrapped more tightly in the plastic wrap.
Step 8. Tie both ends of the plastic wrap in a double knot
Repeat the chicken wrapping step on all the chicken breasts.
Step 9. Turn off the heat when the pot is boiling
Do not remove the pan from the heat source. Put the chicken meat that has been wrapped in plastic into the hot water. Be careful not to get splashed with very hot water.
Step 10. Cover the pot
Let the chicken soak in the water for 15 minutes. If you are using very large pieces of chicken breast or frozen chicken that has not been thawed beforehand, then marinate the chicken for a few minutes longer.
Step 11. Remove the chicken from the water with a gravy spoon or other kitchen utensil
To remove the chicken from the plastic, hold the chicken over a bowl with oven mitts on.
Step 12. Cut both ends of the plastic with scissors
The tasty gravy will come in the plastic wrap, so make sure that you hold the chicken well over the bowl to get the gravy.
Step 13. Serve the chicken on a plate
You can pour the beef juice over the chicken for added flavor.
Method 3 of 3: Boiled Chicken with Cream or Milk
Step 1. Turn on the stove over high heat
Add 2 tablespoons of butter to the pan, or use cooking spray on the skillet. Let the butter melt.
Step 2. Put the chicken breasts in the pan
Pour 2 cups of milk or cream into the skillet until the chicken breasts are almost completely covered. Allow the milk or cream to boil.
Step 3. Reduce the heat to medium
Do this only when the milk or cream has come to a boil. Allow the chicken breasts to simmer or simmer for another 20 minutes.
If you have a meat thermometer, boil it until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 74 degrees Celsius
Step 4. Slice into thick chunks of meat to check for doneness
Make sure that the juices are clear and the flesh is grayish white.
Step 5. Remove the chicken from the pan when the meat is thoroughly cooked
For a balanced meal, serve with sources of carbohydrates or starch (such as pasta or potatoes) and vegetables (such as green beans).
