Tired of seeing the raindrops and desperately want to go outside? Instead of sinking into boredom, find fun things to do at home!
Step
Method 1 of 2: Entertaining Yourself
Step 1. Cook something
One of the best ways to stay busy when it rains is to cook. Cooking can keep you busy, and it provides an opportunity for you to use the spices in your pantry that you've always wanted to try. The best part is that you can get delicious food by cooking, and everyone can enjoy it!
- Make comfort foods like chocolate chip cookies, or try fancy cupcake recipes you find online. Try making bread from scratch.
- Look for recipes passed down by your family and try to make them. If you have kids, teach them how to make the famous grandma's biscuits or the delicious apple pie.
- Try making ethnic food that you have never tried before. Get out of your safe zone and have fun in the kitchen.
Step 2. Try knitting, crocheting, or sewing
When it rains it's the best time to get busy in a knitting project or practice your crochet crochet technique. Or, you may want to sew a dress or pants that you really want.
- Find tutorials online that teach you how to knit, crochet, or sew. Spend a day learning it if you've never done it before. Find a nice pattern and make a gift for someone.
- There are lots of things to knit or crochet: finger puppets, blankets, hats, small animals, scarves, and more.
Step 3. Read a book
Spend a rainy day enjoying a good book. Reading is a great way to be adventurous without having to leave the house. Find a book on your bookshelf, go to the library, or download a book on your e-book reader.
- Whatever your interests are, there will be a book for you. Do you like cowboy adventure novels? Romantic? History? Thrillers? Horror? You may have to spend a few minutes looking through the cover of the novel or reading the summary, but you're sure to find a book that fits.
- If your adventurous spirit rises, just pick a book at random from the shelf and start reading. You will surprise yourself by liking something you never thought of before.
- If you've just seen a movie adapted from a book, read the book.
- Read classic books. Pick a book you've always wanted to read but never had the time to read.
Step 4. Write a story
Imagine and write a story. Come up with story ideas and start writing. Have fun writing because you are creating your own world.
- Write a fictional version of your experience. Write a spooky or romantic story. Force yourself to step outside of your safety zone and try writing something in a genre you never thought you would write.
- If you're not a writer, try drawing or painting a picture instead.
Step 5. Clean the house
Cleaning the house is something that we always want to do, but sometimes we neglect because of the daily grind. What better way to make the most of a rainy day than doing housework? Clean and organize the parts of the house that are in dire need of care. This way, you don't have to think about cleaning the house when the weather is sunny again.
- Choose a room to clean. Or do the cleaning from room to room.
- Do something you don't have time to do. Clean the closet, organize the pantry, or clean the garage. Collect used clothes and items to donate. Vacuum, clean the glass, and the bathtub.
Step 6. Go for a walk
If you're not afraid of getting wet, take an umbrella and go for a walk. Take a walk to a park near your house or visit a friend who lives quite a distance from you. See the world in a different way when it's raining. Visit a local park or wildlife sanctuary in your area. If you live in a big city, take an umbrella tour around the city.
- One of the advantages when it rains is that there will be fewer people walking around. You can walk around and explore local sites without being surrounded by crowds.
- When it rains it also provides an opportunity for you to put on your clothes when it rains. Put on a thick coat you've never worn and boots that are dusty in your closet.
- Being outside for a while and moving your body makes you feel like you've spent your day with something useful.
- If you love photography, be sure to bring your camera-you might get inspired along the way!
Step 7. Run a movie marathon
Gather your friends and family together and host a movie marathon. Choose classics your kids haven't seen, rent some new ones, or rewatch some of your favorites.
- Make a “rainy day” theme with films that are themed on rain, storms, or the word “rain”, such as “Badai Definitely Passed” or “Magic Hour”.
- Choose a genre and watch several films of that genre. Make it an action movie day, frighten yourself with horror movies, or have a laugh with some classic comedies.
- In addition to a movie marathon, try a TV series marathon. Choose a TV series that you've always wanted to watch, or watch some TV show that you don't have time to watch because you're too busy.
Step 8. Make a game day
Gather your family, invite your friends, and sit around the table to play board and card games. It's a great way to know how your loved ones are doing, chat, laugh, and enjoy being together.
- Try a strategy game like chess or make a house out of cards. Play classic games like snakes and ladders, monopoly, Scrabble and cocky. If you have enough people, play card games like rummy, Poker, or cat and mouse.
- Keep yourself busy with video games. Playing video games is a great way if you are alone. Invite your best friends to play video games together, or go online and play with other people.
Step 9. Enjoy the rain
Sit on the terrace or balcony of your house with a cup of hot chocolate, tea or coffee. Listen to the sound of the rain and see the raindrops falling. Take time to relax and focus on the weather rather than your life.
Method 2 of 2: Entertaining the Kids
Step 1. Jump over puddles
Put on a raincoat and rubber boots, or a bathing suit and flip-flops, and jump in puddles on the streets. Set up a contest to splash each other with water, or play "noise" as you jump from one puddle to another.
- Get down to the ground and make a mud cake. Take a small boat and make the boat float in the puddle.
- This is not just a children's activity. Jumping over puddles is great fun for all ages.
Step 2. Play a treasure hunt game
Make a few clues scattered throughout the house-one clue will lead to the next. This will keep the kids busy while trying to find the treasure.
- Hidden treasures can be toys, treats, fun activities, or small gifts.
- Children can compete against each other, or they can play in teams and work together to find the treasure.
Step 3. Make obstacles in the house
Make various kinds of obstacles for the children to go through. Obstacles can be anything-crawling under a table, walking in a straight line along a line drawn with tape on the floor, putting a doll in a bucket, jumping up and down the corridor, rolling across the room, or picking up something with her teeth. Brainstorm with the children to determine suitable obstacles for your home using the objects you have.
- Make medals for the winners out of thick folded paper.
- Make sure that the obstacles you place in the house are safe to use. Don't let your fun rainy day end in injury.
Step 4. Make crafts
Get out your craft tools and get creative. Decorate pine cones, make finger puppets, paint a picture with watercolors, make a collage out of leaves, and make flannel shapes to create a picture story. The only limit is your imagination.
Let the children choose their own craft. This way, each child can do something that interests them so they won't feel bored
Step 5. Make a castle out of blankets
When it rains is the perfect time to make a fort out of blankets in the living room. Arrange some chairs and cover the area between the chairs and the sofa with a blanket. Make a picnic lunch under your blanket fort.
Turn a rainy day into an indoor camping experience. Place a sleeping bag under the fort and inflate the air mattress. If you have a small tent, make it in your living room
Step 6. Make a city out of cardboard
Collect boxes and cardboard parts. You can cut them out and make 3-dimensional shapes for the buildings, or just cut them flat to make one-sided buildings. Use markers, crayons, and colored paper to decorate the buildings. Create entire cities, including fire stations, schools, skyscrapers, apartment complexes, and houses.
Use small dolls and toy cars for your cardboard city. Or, you can build your own toy cars and puppets to live in your cardboard city
Step 7. Have a tea party
Dress up in fancy clothes, big hats, gloves, and ties. Bring the tea to a boil, use an expensive ceramic cup, and place the napkin on the table.
- Invite dolls and shadow guests that the children would like to invite. Let the children make their guest list.
- Ask the children to help you make desserts and small sandwiches as snacks for the tea party.
Tips
- Many of the suggestions from the first method can be turned into activities for children, just as the second method can be adapted for adults.
- Use it when it rains to do your to-do list. Think of the things that make you say, “I'd do it if I had the time…”, and do it!
- Choose activities that are fun for you if the activities above do not interest you. Think about your interests and determine what hobbies you can make time pass while doing them.
- Play with your brother, sister or pet.
