If you want to look your best for a photo shoot or formal event, learn to pose like a male model to radiate confidence and strength. Overall posture, hand position, and facial expression are the three main elements for your pose. Make sure your body is upright and straight. Walking leisurely and leaning against a wall are the two most common poses. Men usually like to use their hands. So, use your hands to vary the poses. Use facial expressions to improve poses.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Adjusting Body Position
Step 1. Make sure your shoulder is facing the camera
One of the main rules for posing like a male model is to make the body seem broad and sturdy. If the position of the shoulders is tilted, the body profile will appear smaller. Keep your shoulders relaxed and facing forward.
- To improve the appearance of your shoulders, lean about 2.5-5 cm forward to push your shoulders closer to the camera.
- Sometimes you'll be photographed from your side or want to slant your shoulders, but generally the shoulder facing the camera is the best option.
Step 2. Tighten your core muscles
If you have belly fat, tighten your abdominal muscles to hide it. Try to keep your stomach as flat as possible without pulling it too deep. This step will streamline the waist while pushing the chest forward. It is even better if you straighten your posture because it can lengthen your core muscles.
Step 3. Practice walking pose
Walking is a common “pose” for male models. Practice walking with your body straight and your head held high. This pose requires you to position one foot in front with your toes about 2.5 cm off the ground. The back foot should be on the ground. One arm is extended slightly forward while the other hand is slightly behind.
Extend the stride so that it is wider than normal walking. This will help accentuate the pose, especially if you tend to walk with short strides
Step 4. Lean against the wall
You have many options for doing this pose, such as leaning against your back or with one shoulder. If you're leaning on your back, bend one knee and lift your leg up against the wall. If you are leaning against the shoulder, cross the leg that is closer to the wall over the other leg.
- If you want to pose with your back against a wall, you don't have to lift either one, but try not to have your legs completely straight. Bend one leg and position one foot in front and the other slightly behind.
- While you're studying, try to keep your body almost upright, both up and down. Don't allow your feet to be so far from the wall that your body is at a significant angle.
Part 2 of 3: Positioning the Hands
Step 1. Tuck your hands in your pockets
This is a classic pose that exudes confidence and serenity. You have two options: tuck your entire palm in your pocket, or just a part of it by leaving your thumb outside. Tuck your thumb in the belt hook for variety.
Another option is to only put one hand in the pocket. In this position, the other hand can be placed on the opposite shoulder or used to brush hair
Step 2. Touch your face
If you want to show a relaxed or thoughtful attitude, place your hand on one side of your face. There are various options for this. Place your index and thumb around your chin or bend your fingers and place them on your chin.
Placing your hands on your face gives a lot of variety to the look. Try experimenting with different hand positions to see which one gives the impression you want
Step 3. Use one hand to adjust the tie
If you're wearing a suit and tie, putting your hands on your tie is a classic and classy pose. Place your thumb and forefinger so that they are on the left and right sides of the tie knot, respectively. You don't have to actually move the tie. Placing your hands in this position will give the impression of movement.
A small variation to this pose is to place the other hand around the bottom of the tie, about halfway up the top. If you want to tighten from, this is what you really look like, but this pose is very different compared to using just one hand
Step 4. Cross your arms
For a serious or domineering pose, cross your arms as you normally would. To adjust the pose in modeling, place both hands on the opposite arm, instead of tucking one hand under the arm. Showing both hands will give a better look.
A variation of this pose is to let one arm hang straight and use the other hand to hold the elbow. This pose will partially cover your chest, but will give a different feel than if your arms were crossed
Part 3 of 3: Using Facial Expressions
Step 1. Make the eyes smaller by squinting them
Wide eyes are usually not suitable for male models. Raise the lower eyelid by squinting slightly. This expression will give the impression that you are thinking seriously or considering something carefully. This will evoke confidence and calm, rather than fear or confusion.
Step 2. Push your chin forward and down
If the chin is relaxed, you will usually see a fold of skin underneath. Push your head forward so that your neck is elongated. Don't lift your chin so that your nostrils are exposed, but tilt it down about 10% of the normal position. This step will remove the double chin and partially hide the neck.
If pushing your chin forward doesn't give you the look you want, think about pushing your ears forward. This will move the entire head to the position you want to go
Step 3. Show some of your teeth with a smile
A successful smile for a male model must show some teeth. Don't smile so wide that your lips are wide open, but don't purse your lips either. Open your lips just enough to reveal some of your teeth.
Step 4. Aim beyond the camera
If the photo doesn't require you to look directly at the camera, choose a spot above and behind the camera. Look towards the left or right corner of the camera or a point below the camera.
