If you want to find articles about “playing alone” in a figurative sense, you'll need to look elsewhere (and to be honest, it's not that hard to figure out on your own without outside guidance, is it?). However, if you're bored and don't have anyone else to hang out with and play with, then read the steps below to learn how to have fun alone.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Inside the House
Step 1. Draw
Everyone has an imagination, but not everyone is good at touching his own imagination. One of the easiest ways to have fun alone and touch your imagination is to sit at a table with lots of pens, pencils, markers, or crayons and draw. Make sure that you prepare a lot of paper, and don't skimp on paper. Just keep drawing, until you find something you really like. Expand the object, add details (and color, if it does use color), and just keep going until you're happy with the result.
You don't have to show this image to anyone if you don't want to. Just throw it away when you're done, if you don't want to keep it
Step 2. Play with dolls or miniature figures
Playing with toys like this is a typical activity for children around the world, for a good reason: to pass the free time. If you don't have toys, buy them, or make your own, or use display dolls. Give each toy a name and name, then move it around according to your story. Use different sounds and traits for each toy.
Try using a wrinkled blanket or stack of books to create a scene backdrop for your toy figures. Perhaps one of them is a reclusive police character riding a horse in a mountainous wilderness made of books, about to be ambushed by a criminal; or a witch on a broomstick, who would save someone who was about to commit suicide by jumping off a high bridge. The possibilities are endless
Step 3. Dance
You're home alone, so why not? Choose the music, turn up the volume, and dance. You may be surprised because it will feel so much fun. Pair it with music that you didn't previously think would be appropriate for dancing (for example, slow-paced classical music) and try moving along with it. Let your body express the sound and feeling of the music. This is an excellent way to improve your mood as well as exercise.
-
Make sure that the door is locked before you dance wildly, unless you don't mind if someone comes in and sees you doing it. The time it takes for someone to unlock the door is enough for you to stop dancing and get back to serious style.
Trying to be serious after dancing will usually make you want to laugh more. But, isn't it all about having fun?
- Prepare enough space before dancing. Once you start dancing, it's easy to lose your attention to the direction you're moving.
Step 4. Play a one-man game
This includes games of a social nature, which give only one player choice. The best known is probably the game “Klondike Solitaire”, which is a simple card matching game. Other similar games for example are "Pyramid" and "Spider". Apart from card games, you can also play marbles, halma or even chess alone. Of course, the challenges are limited, but the opportunities to learn and practice strategies are much more. You can also play ring throwing, darts, or pokeball alone, if you have the equipment.
- Playing marbles alone is easy. Place one marble inside the circle, then shoot from outside the circle with the larger marble, targeting all the smaller marbles. It can be played indoors too, if you have something to use as a circle marker as well as a flat floor surface to shoot marbles on.
- There are many solitaire card games available online on Wikipedia. However, not all types have adequate explanations.
- Games that require special properties, such as “Magic: the Gathering” and other collectible card games, can be played alone, just like hammer or chess. Playing cards against yourself is a good way to test your strategy and balance.
- Playing background music is also a good way to enjoy some alone time, as well as observe how much time has passed. Just pay attention to the overall duration of your song, and you'll know the time you've spent after playing.
Step 5. Play video games
Today, more than ever, video games can be found anywhere. Even if you don't have a dedicated device (such as a Nintendo Wii or Sony PS3), there are thousands of video games available to play on your computer or mobile phone. Most are made by gamers too. There are games that allow you to fight other players online; some are more fun when played together with teammates (especially games with the theme of kart racing and physical fights). Avoid these types of games if you really want to play alone, and look for video games that are adventure-themed or role-playing.
-
There are many video games that can be played online. Try visiting Yahoo! Games to find the latest games and classics, or https://www.onemorelevel.com/ to find an easy-to-use list of a select lineup of video games, including the lesser-known but still fun ones.
Some free video games allow you to pay to enjoy extra features or get additional benefits. Don't make any payments unless you're absolutely sure you want to. Remember, this is just a free Internet video game
- Don't ignore the old gaming kit. Lots of fun video games are made for devices like the NES, Sega Genesis, and early Sony PlayStation. These games, along with their systems and tools, are often available at very low prices at thrift shops and flea stores.
Step 6. Use a hobby activity package
If you have free time and are alone, why not make something fun? Try building and assembling a model airplane or car, or assembling a model rocket and launching it in the backyard of a nearby school on the weekends. Some hobby shops also sell activity packages for assembling robots, developing colorful crystals in the water, and doing various fun and unusual activities. Most of these packages cost no more than IDR 414,000 (USD 30), and are an excellent way to spend an afternoon.
- Other packages that are also available, for example, are color sand packs, handmade jewelry, and nightmarish amulets. Have a look in the store and find what you are interested in!
- You can also make your own activity packs, by purchasing a few basic components and storing them in a specific box or bag. Try making scented soaps, bath salts or candles, designing T-shirts with fabric paint and decals, or even drinking your own wine (if you're old enough).
Method 2 of 3: Outdoors
Step 1. Play a solo sport
With a bouncing ball, it's easy for you to play handball alone. Just find a wall and bounce the ball at different angles, all the while trying to keep it bouncing. You can also play basketball alone, if there is a basketball court that is not being used. Or, practice footwork in a game of soccer by jogging across the field kicking the ball, or sprinting all the way to the end and back to the starting point.
- You can practice alone in traditional sports games too. Try to keep the footbag ("Hacky Sack") in the air as long as possible, or toss the "Frisbee" disc as far as possible, or play horseshoes alone, if there is a court open to the public in your location.
- If there is a field open to the public in your location, archery is an excellent sport to do alone, as it is generally a solo sport. The basic equipment for the sport of archery is a little expensive, but this should not exceed IDR 2,071,000 (USD 150), which is still cheaper when compared to certain other sports.
Step 2. Do some browsing
Exploring, whether by car, bicycle, or on foot, is a fun way to spend time in your local area. Just choose one direction and move in that direction. For more enjoyment in exploring nature, you can visit a park that still has a forest area, then throw a ball or “Frisbee” disc as far as possible into the forest area. Look for the ball or disk, then repeat the same thing, until you make it through the forest area.
- Make sure you read every sign and warning sign carefully. Some parks do not allow pedestrians to leave the designated track. Always obey the applicable regulations.
- If you plan to venture out of urban areas, make sure that you have a compass and topographic map with you, and understand how to use them. These skills are called orientation skills, which are easy to learn and can save your life.
Step 3. Walk down the hill
It's also a popular way to spend free time with kids, anywhere. By taking advantage of the force of gravity, you can enjoy fast movements without getting too tired. If there is snow near your location, buy a sled and enjoy skating alone. If there's a city park nearby, find a hilly spot, lie on your side, and roll yourself down the hill (but make sure that there's no dog droppings in the area you'll be crossing.
You can take a bicycle or scooter to enjoy a higher speed, but make sure that you stay aware of the presence of other people in the area of the track or your destination point, as stopping the bike will take significantly longer time than stopping a rolling body
Step 4. Go have a look
Use a bicycle, car or public transportation to visit nearby places of interest. Bring a camera (or use a cell phone camera) and take photos of every interesting thing you see. Just driving on the road can allow you to see beautiful photos of houses and gardens. Try to keep a record of where you visit each season, so you can revisit it at a different season and observe the changes.
To turn this sightseeing trip into a game, take note of any unique traits you find (for example, a rare flower or four-leaf clover) in each location, then match them with photos of the same feature from a different location. If you have sufficient granular viewing skills, you may spend several months finding and matching unique traits
Step 5. Observe people
One of the best ways to spend time outdoors is to sit on a bench near a busy street and watch the crowds go by. Pay attention to their clothes, faces, and body language, as well as their accessories and direction. Try adding details to their lives, such as whether they wear oddly printed socks under neat work clothes, or whether they like jazz music. Turn them into the characters in your mind. It's a lot more fun than you think when you read this advice.
- You can turn people-watching into a game in the same way you did with the sightseeing trip earlier.
- Don't stare at people for long. Your goal is to pay attention to other people without them knowing, so that you can still enjoy this activity while observing them. If you meet someone's gaze, give a polite smile and then look away. Consider bringing a cup of coffee or tea so you have something to quickly distract yourself with.
Method 3 of 3: Stuck in an Old Shopping Show
Step 1. Do some browsing
If you're stuck in a long shopping spree, it means you're with someone doing something you don't really like. Please politely excuse yourself and let them know you'd like to have a look yourself, and agree on the location and time of the next meeting. Then go out on your own and distract yourself as much as possible. Even if nothing seems interesting, you'll always find something to look at. Try reading the nutritional labels on certain food packaging at the supermarket, for example.
- Don't forget, you can also go outside the building and have a look behind it.
- Make sure that the person you went with hears and understands the time and place of the reunion being discussed. Have the person repeat it, so you know that both you and he have the same understanding of the deal.
- If you are a child, you can usually sit in the corner and play with the toy cars or small toys sold in the store. However, don't expect to be able to do this if you are in your teens or older.
Step 2. Play the pocket game
In addition to cell phones and video game devices like the Nintendo 3DS, there are plenty of pocket games to play while you're out and about. Prepare before you go shopping and bring a pocket game or two in case you get stuck later. If there's no room for you to sit and play, look for benches outside the shopping building, or chairs near the restroom area and near the dressing room.
As with video game kits at home, don't forget that older pocket games are usually relatively inexpensive, and most contain lots of fun games. You don't have to buy the most expensive type to have fun
Tips
- Apart from playing, you can also try to develop certain talents or hobbies, such as playing a certain musical instrument, or singing, or humming, to enjoy your free time. It's not play, but just as satisfying.
- Imagination is your best friend in trying to find ways to enjoy alone time. Read books and/or watch movies regularly to keep your imagination going.
