You don't have to go to a gun shop to have your own "ninja star" or "Shuriken". You can make one or more stars out of paper as a cheaper and safer option. You can also do it with children as a very fun play activity.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Making Paper Squares
Step 1. Start with a square piece of paper
Use paper from a notebook or cardboard. We will make a square sheet of paper. If you are using origami paper, skip the next two steps.
Step 2. Fold the grid paper diagonally
Fold the top right corner diagonally down, so that the top of the paper is parallel to the left side and forms a pointed section in the top right corner.
Step 3. Cut the rest
Carefully cut or tear along the edges of the paper so that only a square of paper remains.
Part 2 of 3: Forming the Parts
Step 1. Fold the square in half
Make sure the folds are parallel to the edges.
Step 2. Divide the two squares of paper
Cut a square of paper into 2 equal parts. Use a paper cutter to make it easier.
Step 3. Repeat
Fold each piece in half vertically, parallel to the long side.
Step 4. Fold the ends
Fold the ends diagonally, so the edges are parallel.
Step 5. Repeat
Repeat this fold at each end of the strip of paper, making sure the folds are in the same direction as the picture.
Step 6. Make triangular folds
Fold the ends diagonally again. The result is a large triangle facing you, and two smaller triangles facing you.
Step 7. Repeat
Repeat the same fold on each end of the strip of paper. Make sure they are oriented against each other, as in the picture.
Part 3 of 3: Putting All the Parts together
Step 1. Flip only the part on the left, and arrange the two parts, as in the picture
Step 2. Position the right piece over the left
There will be a square section in the middle of each parallel section, but if you can't find it anymore, don't worry. Just align the middle.
Step 3. Fold the top point inward diagonally, and tuck the point into the pocket
Step 4. Fold the bottom point up diagonally, and tuck the point into the pocket
Step 5. Turn everything over
Step 6. Fold the right point diagonally as before, tucking it into the pocket
Step 7. Fold the left pointed part diagonally and tuck it into the pocket
You may have to put in a little effort to tuck it in.
Step 8. Use tape down the center of the insert
This is to prevent the ninja stars from being released.
Step 9. Enjoy your ninja star
Tips
- Make sure the crease on the ninja star is pressed down. Otherwise, the ninja star won't be as thick and neat looking as it should be.
- Never throw ninja stars in the eye! Sharp edges!
- If you fold, press and throw the stars correctly, the stars will fly like real star weapons.
- The neater you cut and fold, the easier it will be to align everything at the end, so that the tapered part slips easily into your pocket.
- Make three or more stars at once, and stack them so they're almost parallel, but slightly apart. Grasp all three between your thumb and forefinger and throw all the stars at once from your side forward, like a frisbee.
- To create a better crease, use your thumb and index fingernail to press the crease where you want it.
- You can also decorate ninja stars using glitter glue markers, glitter pens etc.
- No tape needed to make this star.
- The most suitable paper to use is magazine paper.
- If you push a matchstick in the middle, you can make a top.
- Cut the lines to make them sharper, and the folds to form more defined.
Warning
- Be careful when throwing stars. You can even hurt yourself.
- The edges of the star can be sharp, keep it away from small children.
- Do not throw this star at other people or animals.
- Be careful when using scissors.
- When folding, you may cut the paper.
