Flubber may be a goofy film starring Robin Williams in 1997, but it can also be an interesting craft project that young children will love. Flubber is spongy, stretchy, and repulsive--what more could a child possibly want? It's easy and fun to make several types of flubber. Robin Williams will be proud of you.
Ingredients
Ordinary Flubber
- 1 1/4 cups warm water
- 1 cup white glue
- 2 tbsp Borax
- Food coloring (optional)
No (Borax Free Flubber)
- 1 cup glue
- 1 cup liquid starch
- Food coloring
Edible Flubber
- 1 can (about 400 ml) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tbsp corn flour
- Food coloring
Step
Method 1 of 3: Making an Ordinary Flubber
Step 1. Mix 3/4 cup water with 1 cup glue in a bowl
Stir this mixture until smooth.
Step 2. Mix 2 tbsp Borax with 1/2 cup water in another bowl
Stir until the Borax is dissolved.
Step 3. Mix these two mixtures
Stir again. Add a few drops of food coloring until the mixture is the color you want.
Step 4. Put the dough in a well-sealed plastic bag
Close it tightly. Knead the dough for a few minutes and your flubber will be done. Store the flubber in the bag.
Step 5. Done
Method 2 of 3: Making Gak (Borax Free Flubber)
Step 1. Pour 1 cup of white glue into a bowl
Add a few drops of food coloring as desired.
Step 2. Pour 1 cup of liquid starch into the glue mixture
Mix well. When the glue and starch start to mix, the result will be very thick.
Step 3. Add starch if the mixture looks too sticky
The starch will make the glue stretchy but not sticky. Be aware that it won't stick to clothes and carpets, but is easily removed with a little warm water and scrubbing.
Step 4. Store the Gak in a tightly closed container
Method 3 of 3: Making Edible Flubber
Step 1. Pour the can (about 400 ml
) sweetened condensed milk into the frying pan.
Turn on the stove on a low heat level.
Step 2. Add a tablespoon of cornstarch to the frying pan
Stir the mixture on low heat.
Step 3. Lift the frying pan when the mixture starts to thicken
Add a few drops of food coloring until you get the color you want. Mix well.
Step 4. Let it cool before you play (or eat it)
Be aware that this flubber can stain brightly colored clothes and carpets. You can clean it with warm water and detergent.
Step 5. Store in a tightly sealed container or plastic bag
Tips
- Rinse the flubber with water if it is dirty.
- Flubber lasts up to about three weeks. By then, there will probably be too much hair and dust stuck to Flubber's no longer fun.
