Unlike other small pieces of furniture, bookshelves are usually filled with heavy objects and can be dangerous if dropped. Attaching it to the wall is the best way to avoid accidents. All furniture should be placed more carefully in places where there are small children who use it, or places that are often hit by earthquakes or other natural disasters.

Method 1 of 2: Placing the Antique Bookshelf
Step 1. Buy some adhesive cloth
Usually this adhesive cloth is supplied with several long bolts and fisher bolts to hold the adhesive cloth firmly against your wall. You don't need to drill into your bookshelf using this method.
Step 2. Use a ladder and a pencil to draw a horizontal line where your bookshelf is against the wall
Step 3. Remove the books from the bookshelf and also keep the bookshelf itself away from the wall
Use the truss finder to locate the truss in the wall. If possible, find two posts and use two tapes to attach the bookshelf for a firm grip.
- Attach the bookshelf to the wall on the frame posts if possible, this is better than using fisher bolts.
- It's best to stick the bookshelf without the books in it, then place the books back when you're done pasting them.
Step 4. Mark the location of the skeleton posts using a pencil
Draw a vertical line. The intersection of these two lines is where you drill and screw the wood into the wall.
Step 5. Ask someone to help hold the adhesive cloth in a vertical position
Make sure the side with the adhesive is facing down. You will remove the clear plastic cover once you have finished drilling.
Step 6. Place a wooden bolt in the center of the adhesive cloth, where there is a hole for the bolt
Use a cordless drill. The number of bolts required may vary, depending on the brand of adhesive fabric you are using.
If you can't find a truss post, you'll have to drill the holes yourself and use fisher bolts, where the two lines meet
Step 7. Return the bookshelf to its original position, at the height where your bolts are attached to the wall
Remove the clear plastic adhesive cloth cover on the side that has the adhesive and press the adhesive cloth against the top side of the bookshelf. For best results, do not remove the adhesive cloth to adjust its position, or the adhesive will be lost.
Method 2 of 2: Gluing the Bookcase Using an Iron Elbow
Step 1. Remove the books from the shelves
Remove the shelf from its position.
Step 2. Use the truss finder to locate the truss in your wall
Use a long ruler to mark the midpoint of the truss post with a vertical line.
Step 3. Place your bookshelf back in its original position, in the exact position between the frame posts
If this is not possible, you can place an angle iron in the middle of the frame posts.
Step 4. Use the ladder until you are in a comfortable position to work the top of your bookshelf
For tall bookshelves, this is the best part for attaching the bookshelf to the frame posts as this is less visible.
Step 5. Use an “L” shaped angle iron so that the iron sticks to the walls and bookshelves
You can also use a wrench with a chain to replace the "L" angle iron if you frequently replace this bookshelf. Attach the chain to the wall and attach it to the top side of the bookshelf.
Step 6. Attach the "L" angle iron to the top of the bookshelf with a cordless drill and bolts that are longer than the thickness of the bookshelf
Step 7. Ask your friend to help hold the bookshelf if the bookshelf is tilted forward
Attach the other side of the angle iron to the wall using 7.5 cm bolt washers and wood bolts. Install the bolt until the head is almost parallel to the angle iron, but don't let the bolt wear out.
If you can't find the frame posts, then you'll need to install fisher bolts before you screw into the wall or wooden walls. Drill holes in the wall to attach the fisher bolts. Then position the bookshelf correctly and fix it with 7.5 cm bolts
Step 8. Repeat on both sides of the bookshelf
Position the "L" angle iron on your wall and bookshelf, where the frame posts are. Perform the same procedure on both sides of the bookshelf.
Tips
- Use adhesive cloth to secure items to the bookshelf. Place the adhesive cloth at the top of the bookshelf and under the items you want to stick, such as decorations or flower vases.
- For metal or plastic bookshelves, use machine bolts with washers to attach the bookshelf.
- Empty the tops of your bookshelves to reduce the risk of objects falling during an earthquake. Also avoid placing the books so that the top of the bookshelf is heavier than the rest, as this can cause the bookshelf to fall off the wall.
