Maybe you've been taught how to tie shoelaces, but are you also really taught how to tie the rope shoe into the hole? This can be a great way to give your shoes a different look, especially when you buy laces in different patterns and colors. The method described here is the way people usually attach shoelaces to their eyelets.
Step
Method 1 of 6: Cross Shapes
Step 1. Place the shoes in front of you with the toes far away
Starting with the front two opposite holes, thread both ends of the laces from the inside. Make sure the remaining rope on both sides is the same length.
Step 2. Insert the end of the right shoelace into the next left shoe hole diagonally (from the top)
Alternatively, you can thread the ends of the shoelaces starting from the front inwards (not from the inside towards the outside of the hole), for a neater look.
Step 3. Insert the left end of the shoelace into the hole on the right
Step 4. Continue to thread the rope until all the holes have been passed
Step 5. Tie your shoelaces (as described below)
Method 2 of 6: Straight Shapes
Step 1. Insert one end of the strap into the upper right hole (near the toe) and insert the other end into the lower left hole (near the hole for inserting the foot into the shoe)
The rope that is inserted into the left hole must be left a little of enough length to tie the rope later.
Step 2. Insert the right end of the string into the hole opposite it in a straight line
Step 3. Remove the end of the rope from the bottom, and insert it (from the bottom again) into the next hole
Step 4. Continue threading the laces through the eyelets horizontally until you reach the last hole
Step 5. Tie both ends of your shoelaces (see below)
Method 3 of 6: Shape Locking Heels
If your heels often pop out of the shoes, this method can help overcome them.
Step 1. Tie your laces in a criss-cross fashion, then stop before you reach the last hole
Step 2. Take the end of the shoelace on one side, and thread it into the hole on the same side
Do the same for the other end of the rope.
Step 3. Insert the end of the rope on the left into the gap formed on the side on the right
Step 4. Repeat on the other end of the rope
Step 5. Tie your shoelaces as usual, and enjoy shoes that don't pop the heel
Method 4 of 6: Alternative Straight Shapes
This method is for shoes that have 5 holes on each side.
Step 1. Insert one end of the shoelace into the first hole, from the inside (i.e. the left hole in the right shoe closest to the heel) and pull the laces so that the strap is about 15.2 cm long on the outside
Step 2. Thread the shoelace from the bottom up through the outer two holes
Step 3. Thread the shoelaces straight through the holes opposite them from top to bottom through the inner two holes
Step 4. Thread the shoelace from the bottom up through the inner fifth hole
Step 5. Thread the shoelace straight through the hole opposite it from top to bottom through the outer fifth hole
Step 6. Thread the laces from the bottom up through the outer four holes
Step 7. Thread the shoelace straight through the hole opposite it from top to bottom through the inner fourth hole
Step 8. Thread the shoelace from the bottom up through the inner third hole
Step 9. Thread the shoelace straight through the hole opposite it from top to bottom through the outer third hole
Step 10. Thread the shoelace from the bottom up through the first outer opening
Step 11. Fold the excess length of the rope in half if one side of the rope is longer than the other
Place the folded end of the rope on the shorter end of the rope, then reverse this procedure to pull off the excess length so that both ends of the rope are the same length.
Step 12. Tie both ends of your shoelaces (see below)
Method 5 of 6: Bar Shape
Step 1. Thread the shoelaces straight down the bottom and remove the ends from the inside of the bottom eyelets
Step 2. Thread the two ends of the rope crosswise
Thread it through the hole above it diagonally from the outside and thread it through the third eyelet upwards (skip the second hole).
Step 3. Route both ends of the rope straight from the inside and out through the next eyelet
Step 4. Thread the two ends of the rope crosswise
Thread it through the hole below it diagonally from the outside and thread it through the third eyelet downwards (skip the second hole).
Step 5. Route both ends of the rope straight from the inside and out through the next eyelet
Step 6. Insert the two ends of the rope crosswise
Thread it through the hole above it diagonally from the outside, then thread it through the hole below to pop it into the top eyelet (skip the second hole).
Method 6 of 6: Tying Shoelaces
Step 1. Hold both ends of the rope straight
Place the right end of the rope over the left end, then pull the left end of the rope over the right rope to form a knot. Pull both ends of the rope firmly.
Step 2. Hold the right string and make a knot, placing your finger in the middle to secure it
Place the left rope on top of the right rope, in a circular motion.
Step 3. Bring the left rope through the small knot and pull it firmly
Step 4. Now your shoes are tied
Tips
- If your shoes are untied frequently, try tying them in a double knot. Make a second node (with the loop of the first node). Or, after performing step #2, bring the loop of knots back up through the small hole again before you pull it firmly.
- An easy way to keep shoelaces straight is to place them under the sole at all times. However, if you are using two colors of rope, do the same even if the rope will be slightly longer than the other.
