Want to get rid of unwanted hair on your body without having to go to a salon or spend the money to buy waxing solutions at the store? Why not try doing it yourself at home using natural ingredients? If you want to wax independently, all you need to do is heat a mixture of honey, sugar, and lemon juice and let it cool down before applying it to your skin. Then, attach a piece of cloth or special waxing paper, and pull quickly until all the hair is pulled out!
Ingredients
- 59 ml honey
- 200 grams of sugar
- 1 tbsp. lemon juice
- 6 drops essential oil (optional)
-
Will produce:
About 150 ml of solution
Step
Method 1 of 3: Making a Solution for Hair Removal
Step 1. Mix all ingredients
In a heatproof bowl, mix 59 ml of honey with 200 grams of sugar and 1 tbsp. lemon juice. Stir until all ingredients are well mixed.
At this stage, the texture of the solution will feel gritty and lumpy
Step 2. Heat the solution
If using a stove, heat the solution over low or medium heat, stirring constantly. If using the microwave, heat the solution for 10 to 30 seconds, then remove the container and stir the solution until all the ingredients are well combined. If necessary, repeat the process several times for up to a minute, depending on the power of the microwave you are using. Most importantly, do not heat the solution until it boils or boils.
- If using the maximum setting on the microwave, heat the solution for a maximum of 10 seconds before removing and stirring to avoid overheating.
- Check the temperature of the solution with a kitchen thermometer. Remember, the solution temperature should not exceed 43°C.
Step 3. Wait for the solution temperature to cool before applying
Even if you don't boil it, understand that the temperature of the solution will still be very hot. Therefore, you will need to wait a while, about 15 to 20 minutes, until the solution is warm but safe to touch.
- Once it's comfortable to the touch, you can apply a small amount of the solution to the area to be hair removal to make sure the temperature is right for the area.
- If you want, you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to make the solution smell better when you apply it.
Step 4. Check the texture while waiting
Stir the solution with a spoon to check the texture. The solution should be noticeably thickened and less lumpy over time. If the texture of the solution is too runny, you can add 1 tbsp. sugar and reheat until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Since the solution is hot enough, the sugar you add shouldn't take long to melt and blend perfectly with the honey. Therefore, the solution does not need to stand too long
Method 2 of 3: Removing Hair on Desired Body Parts
Step 1. Apply the solution to the desired skin surface
Use a butter knife or similar tool, such as an ice cream stick or spatula, to apply the solution to the area you want to remove hair from. Make sure the solution is applied in the direction of hair growth, yes! For example, if the hair to be removed is in the calf area, apply the solution from the knees to the ankles, not the other way around.
- Apply the solution as thinly and quickly as possible so that the texture is not too dry or thick so it can be removed more easily.
- Chances are, you'll need to practice this technique several times until the results are absolutely perfect.
Step 2. Paste a special cloth or paper for waxing
Choose a muslin that is equal in size to the width of the area to be removed (or slightly larger than the area). Then, glue the cloth over the solution, leaving about 5 cm of area at the end of the cloth that is not exposed to the solution so that the cloth is easier to remove. After that, gently rub the cloth in the direction of hair growth without touching your skin directly, about two to three times.
- If you want, you can also use scraps of old clothes to replace the muslin. However, make sure the material used is stiff enough to be more effective when used to remove hair on your body.
- Remember, the part of the fabric that is not exposed to the solution should be at the end point of hair growth. For example, if the hair to be removed is in the calf area, the end of the cloth that is not exposed to the solution should be near the ankles, not the knees.
Step 3. Hold the end of the cloth that is not exposed to the solution, then quickly pull it off
Use one hand to pull the area of skin around the fabric, then use your other hand to grab the non-solution end of the fabric and pull it away from the surface of the skin in the opposite direction of hair growth.
- For example, if the hair to be removed is in the calf area, you will need to pull the fabric from your ankles towards your knees.
- Do the process with the movement as straight and steady as possible. In other words, make sure the fabric is pulled to its original position when applied.
- Pull on the fabric as you would the tape in a fast, steady motion.
Step 4. Repeat the process if necessary, then clean the area in question
If necessary, reapply the waxing solution and cloth to remove excess hair. Although it really depends on the size of the area you're removing hair from, you may need to re-warm the solution once it's cooled down and the texture has hardened to make it easier to apply. After the waxing process is complete, immediately clean the area of the skin in question with warm to hot water.
- If necessary, apply the extra solution to the same area, and attach a second cloth. If there are still hairs left, use tweezers to remove them because your skin will likely be too sensitive to accept the third waxing process.
- If you want, clean the skin using soap, although this step is actually optional. If the solution you're using contains scented oils, simply wash your skin with warm water to keep the scent off.
- If your skin feels dry, try applying a little baby oil after cleansing to restore moisture.
- Used cloths can also be cleaned with hot water and reused, if desired.
Method 3 of 3: More Efficient Hair Removal
Step 1. Clean and dry the skin to be removed
Use soapy water to remove dust, dirt, and other substances that make it difficult for the solution to stick to your hair. Then, rinse off the soap and dry your skin as any remaining water can thin the texture of the solution and make it harder for it to adhere to the fabric.
If you want, you can also apply baby powder to the dried skin. Baby powder is useful for absorbing excess moisture in the skin which can interfere with the hair removal process
Step 2. Let your hair grow to a sufficient length
If you've been shaving instead of waxing all this time, be patient. Give the hair on your body a chance to grow to a sufficient length to make it easier to pull out later. At least, don't shave your hair for a week or two before waxing.
After waxing a few times, all you have to do is wait until your hair grows to 1 cm before doing it again
Step 3. Do the waxing process as often as possible at the beginning
If you've never waxed before, try doing it more often than people with more experience. After the first waxing process, observe the growth of your hair. In this process, the finer hair should not be pulled out, so you can only remove it when it is longer and thicker.
- Since some hairs will fall out on their own, it's only natural that the growth rate of each strand will be different. That is why, the waxing process must be done several times in the first few weeks.
- Over time, the roots of the hair will begin to weaken so that hair growth will not be as fast and as long as it used to be. At this stage, all sections of hair should be able to be removed in just one application, so you don't have to do it over and over again.
