Ishraq prayer (or also called Duha prayer) is one of the sunnah prayers performed after sunrise. You can perform the Ishraq prayer to atone for sins, but most people do it to gain the benefit of this prayer. Ishraq prayer is quite easy to carry out and can provide good benefits for spiritual health!
Step
Part 1 of 2: Get Up for Prayer
Step 1. Use the alarm to wake you up when the sun rises
Ishraq prayer is a sunnah prayer that is performed 15-20 minutes after sunrise. Before going to bed, find out the sunrise time in your city, then set an alarm to wake you up when the sun rises.
To know the time for the Ishraq prayer, you can also look at the position of the sun above the horizon. When the sun has really risen and has not touched the horizon, you can perform the Ishraq prayer
Step 2. Keep objects that can distract you
When praying, you have to focus and don't think about things that are not related to the Ishraq prayer. Lock your phone, turn off the television, and set aside time for prayer in silence to remain solemn.
If there is a fan or other noise that cannot be stopped, you can still pray. When praying, make sure you ignore the sound
Step 3. Make ablution before prayer
In Islam, you have to purify yourself first before praying. Since you will perform the Ishraq prayer when you just wake up, you must purify yourself first. When performing ablution, you must wash your hands, mouth, face, arms, hair, and feet three times each.
- Wudu must be performed in a predetermined order. Start with the hands, then the mouth and face, arms, hair, and legs.
- You only need to wash your hair once, starting from the forehead to the back of the head.
Step 4. Turn your body towards the Qibla
In Islam, you must turn your body towards the Grand Mosque in Makkah when praying. This mosque is a very special place for Muslims all over the world. In addition, the Kaaba is located in this mosque.
- If you don't know the Qibla direction, you can download the "Qibla compass" application on your cellphone. This application is a compass that specifically points to the direction of the Grand Mosque.
- In Indonesia, most people turn their body to the northwest when praying.
Part 2 of 2: Performing the Ishraq. Prayer
Step 1. Consider your intention to perform the Ishraq prayer
It is important for you to know the reason for praying. Think about the number of rak'ahs of prayer and why.
- When saying the intention, say "I intend to perform the Ishraq prayer 2 rakaat facing the Qibla for Allah taala."
- Some people perform the Ishraq prayer to atone for sins. However, some people perform the Ishraq prayer to start the day with a good deed.
- Your intention to perform the Ishraq prayer can also be like this "Today is a holiday, and I perform the Ishraq prayer to encourage good deeds throughout the world in the name of Allah."
- Alternatively, your intention could also be something like “Yesterday, I had a bad day and I sinned. I perform the Ishraq prayer to atone for the mistakes I have made."
Step 2. Start the prayer
Read Surah Al-Fatihah and other suras. Do bowing and prostration.
Make sure you read the surah in Arabic. This is because the surah that is read comes from the Qur'an. Personal prayers can be said in your native language
Step 3. Perform the second rakat
When performing the second rak'ah and returning to a standing position, reread Surah Al-Fatihah. Read another surah, then continue the rak'ah.
Step 4. Perform rak'ah as you wish
The Ishraq prayer only requires you to perform 2 rak'ahs, but you can also perform additional rak'ahs. Most Muslims believe that the Ishraq prayer is a very powerful prayer. Therefore, the number of rak'ahs of the Ishraq prayer can help you achieve your desires.
Most people perform the Ishraq prayer with an even number of rak'ahs, even though the number of rak'ahs is more than 2
Tips
- When praying, make sure that only you can hear your own voice.
- When praying, focus on the place of prostration.
