Did you receive visions of troubled times from heaven? Are you the only righteous person on an earth filled with violence, crime and corruption? Survive the coming flood by building your own ark and filling it with “one pair of every creature, male and female”. See Step 1 to start building the ark according to the Bible's description!
Step
Step 1. Choose a consistent conversion factor to convert the cubit to the current measure
The Bible says that God commanded Noah to build the first ark to certain exact specifications. God said to Noah, "This is how you are to build the ark: three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high." Today, these measurements will be difficult because we do not know how long exactly a cubit is. The cubit is an ancient unit of measurement based on the distance from the elbow to the tip of the finger, so different cultures will have different values for a cubit. In general, most ancient cultures had a cubit of 44.5 cm to 52 cm in length.
-
The most important thing is to be consistent – choose a cubit size and use that size to make sure the proportions of your ark are correct. For convenience's sake, this guide will assume we build it with a cubit size called "common cubit", so our conversion factor is 1 cubit = 45 cm.
Step 2. Buy or cut a lot of gofir wood
The Bible says that the first ark was made entirely of gopher wood. Today, "gofir" refers to a number of tree species and conifers in the Cupressaceae family. Noah probably used Mediterranean gofir (Cupressus sempervirens), a variety of gofir tree native to the Mediterranean and Syriac regions. Whatever kind of gofir wood you use, you will need it in sufficient quantity to build a hull three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high with an additional tier, roof and floor under the storied.
If, for convenience's sake, we assume that the ark is square with a size of 45 cm per cubit, our ark of 300 x 50 x 30 cubits will require gopher wood measuring approx. 41.006, 25 square meter. The actual number will be more than this calculation, as you will need to make the hull more than one layer thick, as well as the roof and floor inside the ark.
Step 3. Make the hull of the kalu ship curved to match the measurements in the Bible
In order for your ark to float on the turbulent waters of the earth-shattering flood, it required very solid construction. You will need to make a thick hull with slight transverse bends that taper off at both ends. Add keel beams (“vertical fins” that extend at the bottom of the hull) for added balance. Once you've built the main hull, add horizontal and diagonal beams that criss-cross the inside of the hull to strengthen the ark's walls.
This Ark is a very big project. Assuming 45 cm per cubit, your hull should measure 135 m long, 22.5 m wide and 13.5 m high. The process of building a ship's hull can be shortened with the help of modern tools and construction methods, but if you only use old-fashioned equipment, it could take months or years
Step 4. Add the floor inside the ark and the door beside it
The Bible says that God said to Noah, “… put the door on his side; make the ark lower, middle, and upper.” Adding multiple levels will take advantage of the vertical space available on the ark, bringing in as many animals as possible, while adding a door on the side of the ark will allow land animals to climb into the ark with ease.
The Bible doesn't give specific measurements for the different levels in the ark, so use your best guess. You might, for example, want the lower levels to be higher than the other levels to house the biggest animals, like elephants and giraffes
Step 5. Add a roof
A strong and sturdy roof is an essential part of your ark. The original destructive flood was caused by rain for forty days and forty nights - in a similar situation, it is very important to have a way to keep rainwater from pooling below the tiers and drowning your ark! The Bible says that God commanded Noah to "Make a roof on the ark and finish the ark to a cubit from above."
Make sure you make a roof with the roof edge jutting out beyond the top tier edge. You will want the rainwater to flow away from the top level to the floodplain
Step 6. Coat the hull wood with pakal
This is (obviously) very, very important so that your ark holds water as strong as possible. Allah knew this and commanded Noah to "cover you with a fist from the outside and the inside". Pakal is a thick, sticky resin not unlike the tar, which in ancient times was used to coat ships to make them water resistant. Pakal can be made from plants (especially pine trees) or from petroleum – naturally, Noah probably used the former.
Step 7. Fill your ark with animals
Congratulations, you have built today's ark based on the original information that God gave to Noah! Now, all you need to do is find a male and female pair of all the great species of birds and land animals to repopulate the earth after the flood. However, according to the Bible, some animals are more important than others. Consider God's original commandment to Noah when gathering the animals: “You shall take seven pairs of all clean animals, male and female, but one pair of unclean animals, male and female; also of the birds of the air seven pairs, male and female, so that their offspring may live in all the earth.”
-
"Not haram" and "haram" are meant by ancient Jewish procedures in regulating the appropriateness of types of animals to be eaten and sacrificed. The difference between “unclean” and “unclean” animals is a bit difficult to explain, but, in general, “unclean” animals are:
- Four-legged animals that ruminate and have split hooves.
- Fish.
- Most birds, excluding birds of prey and most waterfowl.
- Several types of pest and insect choices.
