Butternut squash (Cucurbita moschata) is a type of pumpkin that is better known as pumpkin or waluh in Indonesia. Not only delicious, butternut squash is also suitable as a side dish to main dishes such as turkey, pork, or beef. You can cook pumpkin in a number of ways, some of which are grilled covered, roasted openly, and mashed. If you want to know how to cook butternut squash in the above ways, just follow these steps.

Method 1 of 3: Covered Roasted Butternut Squash
Step 1. Gather the materials
Here's what you'll need to make roasted butternut squash:
- 1 large butternut squash
- 2 tbsp honey
- 3 drops vanilla extract
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- Nonstick oil spray or margarine
Step 2. Preheat the oven to 350ºF (176ºC)
Step 3. Remove the seeds from one large whole butternut squash
Use a knife or spoon to scoop out the seeds. If you want, you can also save the seeds for roasting or roasting, or you can use them in other recipes, such as crunchy salads.

Method 2 of 3: Open Baked Butternut Squash
Step 1. Gather the materials
Here's what you'll need to make open roasted butternut squash:
- 1 large butternut squash
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (brown sugar)
- 2 tbsp cinnamon
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
Step 2. Preheat the oven to 350ºF (176ºC)
Step 3. Peel the pumpkin using a vegetable peeler or paring knife
Step 4. Cut the pumpkin in half
Step 5. Remove the seeds and pith
You can use a large or small spoon to do this, or you can use a knife to cut a bit in the middle first and then scoop it out with a spoon.
Step 6. Cut the pumpkin flesh into squares or cubes
Cut into 1-inch (2.5 cm) cubes.
Step 7. Grease the pan with nonstick spray (or margarine if you don't have one)
Step 8. Spread the pumpkin pieces evenly on the baking sheet
Try to keep the pumpkin pieces from touching each other. No need to close the pan.
Step 9. Melt 1/2 cup butter
Place 1/2 cup butter in skillet and heat until melted. You can also place the butter in a microwave-safe covered bowl or container and heat it in the microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
Step 10. Sprinkle butter and brown sugar over the pumpkin
Drizzle 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup brown sugar over pumpkin and toss or stir to coat evenly. Then, sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of cinnamon and salt and pepper to taste.
Step 11. Cook the pumpkin in the oven for 15-20 minutes
Place the baking sheet containing the pumpkin in the oven.
Step 12. Remove the pumpkin from the oven
Remove and stir the pumpkin with a spatula, then return to the oven for another 15-20 minutes, or until the pumpkin is golden brown and a fork can slide easily.

Serve the pumpkin immediately while it's still hot.
Method 3 of 3: Mashed Butternut Squash
Step 1. Gather the materials
Here's what you need to make mashed butternut squash or mashed pumpkin:
- 1 large butternut squash
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
Step 2. Peel the pumpkin
Use a vegetable peeler or knife to peel the skin off the pumpkin.
Step 3. Cut the pumpkin in half
This will make it easier for you to remove the seeds and pith.
Step 4. Remove the seeds
Use a large spoon to scrape the inside of the pumpkin and remove the seeds and pith.
Step 5. Cut the pumpkin into 1-inch (2.5 cm) cubes
Step 6. Place the pumpkin pieces in a small saucepan
Soak the cubes in water and bring to a boil. Cook the pumpkin until soft when pierced with a fork, about 10-15 minutes.
