This wikiHow teaches you how to permanently close a personal PayPal account. Once the account is closed, you can no longer access it. Scheduled or unfinished transactions will be cancelled. However, you cannot close an account if there are still limitations, unresolved issues, or remaining balance or associated accounts.

Step 1. Access https://www.paypal.com via a web browser
You can use any web browser to close your PayPal account. Click Log in ” in the upper right corner of the browser window.
You cannot deactivate an account using the PayPal mobile app
Step 2. Sign in to the account
Type the email address registered to the account and password into the fields that appear, then select “ Login ”.
- Before you can deactivate your account, verify it first and transfer all remaining funds to your bank account.
- If you have an unresolved issue (e.g. a lawsuit or pending transaction), you can't delete your account until all issues are resolved.
Step 3. Click
It's a gear icon in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
Step 4. Select the ACCOUNT tab
The tabs appear in the horizontal menu at the top of the window, next to the “SECURITY”, “PAYMENTS” and “NOTIFICATIONS” options.
Step 5. Click Close your account
This option is in the "Account options" section.
Step 6. Enter the bank account number if prompted
If you haven't linked your account to a bank account, you won't be asked to enter your account number and can skip this step.
Step 7. Click Close Account
Your PayPal account will be closed and you'll receive a confirmation email afterwards.
