There are many ways that can be used to convert meters to feet in the network, but if this is the teacher's task, usually the teacher will ask to see the process. Learning the method is a good and useful thing, so you don't make mistakes yourself. If you want to convert square meters (m2) or cubic meters (m3), you also need to convert to square feet or cubic feet. Luckily, it's not that hard to change it if you understand how.

Method 1 of 3: Converting Meters to Feet
Step 1. Understand that one meter is 3.28 feet
One meter is a unit of length equal to 3.28 feet. You can test this using a one meter ruler and a one foot (12 inch) ruler. Place the one meter ruler on the floor, and line it with the one foot ruler at the same end. Three rulers (three feet) will be approximately the same length as one one meter ruler. If you add a one-foot ruler, you can measure an excess of 0.28 feet, "slightly" longer than three inches.
If you need very accurate measurements, you can use the conversion one meter = 3.28024 feet. Since this number differs only "slightly" from 3.28, it is easier to use 3.28 in simple mathematical calculations
Step 2. Multiply all measurements in meters by 3.28 to convert them to feet
Since one meter = 3.28 feet, you can convert any measurement in meters to feet by multiplying by 3.28. If you're not sure how to do this, read decimal multiplication. There are several examples here. If you want, you can try to do the calculations yourself and see if you get the right answer:
- 1 meter x 3, 28 = 3.28 feet
- 5 meters x 3, 28 = 16, 4 feet
- 2, 7 meters x 3, 28 = 8, 856 feet
Step 3. Convert your measurements to inches (optional)
For most math calculations, all you need is the final answer to your calculations. But if you're curious about actual measurements, answers like "8,856 feet" may not satisfy you. Try to take all the decimal numbers you get, then multiply by 12 to convert them to inches. This calculation is correct because one foot = 12 inches. The conversion process is the same as when converting meters to feet. Here are some examples:
- 3.28 feet = 3 feet + 0.28 feet. Since 0.28 feet x 12 = 3.36, this means 3.28 feet = 3 feet and 3.36 inches
- 16.4 feet = 16 feet + 0.4 feet. Since 0.4 feet x 12 = 4.8, this means 16.4 feet = 16 feet and 4.8 inches
- 8.856 feet = 8 feet + 0.856 feet. Because 0.856 feet x 12 = 10, 272, so 8, 856 feet = 10 feet and 10.272 inches
Method 2 of 3: Converting Square Meters to Square Feet
Step 1. Understand the square meter
Square meter, or often also written m2 is the area measurement. Area is used to measure two-dimensional surfaces, such as the floor of a room, or a sports field. A square meter is a square-shaped unit of area that is one meter long and one meter wide. You can change the area measurement from area unit to area unit too, don't change it to length unit. In this calculation, we will convert from square meters (m2) to square feet.

Step 2. Understand why you need to use square feet
Converting square meters into square feet is not difficult. Like saying “I know that these four squares are enough to cover this floor. But if the square used is smaller, how much is needed?” You can't convert the area to units of length (as in converting lengths in meters to feet), as this would be like asking "How long will the ruler take to cover this floor?" No matter what length of ruler you use, it still can't cover the floor.
Step 3. Multiply square meters by 10, 8 to convert them to square feet
One square meter can be covered with 10.8 square feet. This means you can multiply all measurements of m2 with 10.8 to get the measurement in ft2 (square leg).

Method 3 of 3: Converting Cubic Meters to Cubic Feet
Step 1. Understand the cubic meter
Cubic meters are written as m3. It is a unit of volume, which measures a room in three dimensions. You can use cubic meters to measure the amount of air in a room, or the amount of water in an aquarium. One cubic meter is the equivalent volume of a cube one meter long, one meter wide and one meter high.
Likewise, one cubic foot is equal to the volume of a cube with a length of one foot, a width of one foot and a height of one foot
Step 2. Multiply cubic meters by 35, 3 to get cubic feet
One cubic meter can fit 35.3 cubic feet in it. Notice why this number is larger than the modifier you used earlier, be it square meters or regular meters. Because you multiply the modifier "three" times when you're calculating in three dimensions. The cubic meter is 3.28 times longer than a cubic foot, but also 3.28 times wider and 3.28 times taller. 3.28 x 3.28 x 3.28 = 35.3, so, one cubic meter is 35.3 times larger in volume than one cubic foot.
For a more accurate calculation, multiply by 35, 315
Tips
- If you want to convert from square feet to square inches, multiply by 144. One square foot is “12” times longer and “12” times wider than square inches, so the total is 12 x 12 = 144 times larger.
- If you want to convert from cubic feet to cubic inches, multiply by 1728 (12 x 12 x 12).
