Instead of buying chocolates from the store to give to your loved ones, why not give them your own chocolates? Making chocolate is quite easy to do yourself at home, and you can also get creative with creating unique flavor combinations. Read this article to learn how to make simple chocolate candies, chocolate truffles, or chocolate bars yourself.
Step
Step 1. Gather the necessary materials
The ingredients needed to make a simple chocolate candy are:
- 230 grams of chocolate bars or chocolate chips, cut into small pieces
- Additives such as nuts, dried fruit or grated coconut (optional)
- Filling such as caramel, peanut butter or jam (optional)
Step 2. Choose the chocolate you will use
You can use a solid type of chocolate such as chocolate bar or chocolate chip with this technique. To make chocolate candy, you can use milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or even white chocolate.
Step 3. Melt the chocolate
Place the chopped or chopped chocolate in a special microwaveable bowl, and place the bowl in the microwave. Heat for 30 seconds on the highest heat level. When you're done, remove the bowl from the microwave and stir in the chocolate. Reheat the chocolate for 30 seconds and stir again. Keep repeating this step until all the chocolate is completely melted.
- You can add chopped nuts, grated coconut, chopped dried fruit, or other additions to create your chocolate.
- Add a few drops of peppermint extract if you want to make mint chocolate.
Step 4. Pour the melted chocolate into the mould
While still hot, pour the chocolate into each of the candy molds. Candy molds come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and you can get them at kitchen supply stores. Fill the mold until it reaches the lip of the mold. If necessary, use the back of a spoon to spread the chocolate all the way to the corners of the mold.
-
If you don't have a candy mold, get creative and make your own. You can use small muffin tins, small paper cups, shot or shot glasses, and other containers that can be used as molds.
-
To keep the chocolate in place, lift the mold a few inches from the counter and drop it. This way, the air bubbles will disappear and the chocolate will be softer.
-
To make filled chocolate, fill a mold with chocolate until it is half filled, then place a little caramel, peanut butter, or other filling in the center of the chocolate. After that, pour the chocolate back into the mold until the mold is completely filled.
-
Sprinkle the meses over the chocolate or add other garnishes if you like.
Step 5. Cool the chocolate
Allow the chocolate to cool on the counter until hardened or place the chocolate in the refrigerator. Make sure the chocolate has cooled completely before you remove it from the mould.
Step 6. Remove the chocolate from the mould
Carefully remove the chocolate from the mold. You can eat the chocolate that has already been made or wrap it in a chocolate wrapper to give later as a gift.
Step 7. The chocolate candy is done
Method 1 of 2: Chocolate Truffle
Step 1. Prepare the necessary materials
To make chocolate truffles, you will need:
- 230 grams of chocolate bars or chocolate chips, cut into small pieces
- 120 milliliters of cream
- 1 tablespoon liqueur or a few drops of flavoring
- Cocoa powder or nuts for coating
Step 2. Make the chocolate mixture first
Place the chocolate chunks in a ceramic bowl or heatproof bowl. Pour the cream into a small saucepan and heat until it boils. Then, add the cream to the bowl of chocolate and stir until the chocolate is melted and combined with the cream.
Step 3. Add flavorings
If you want to add liqueur or other flavorings, such as vanilla extract or peppermint, add them to the chocolate mixture and mix well.
Step 4. Let the chocolate cool
Pour the chocolate mixture into the pan and allow the mixture to harden slightly. Stir once more, then cover with plastic and store in the refrigerator. Refrigerate for 2 hours.
-
Make sure your chocolate has cooled evenly before continuing with the truffle making process. The chocolate will be more difficult to process if it is still hot.
-
If you want to make truffles the next day, you can melt the chocolate and refrigerate it overnight.
Step 5. Take the chocolate to shape
Use an ice cream scoop or a sunken teaspoon to scoop the chocolate from the pan. Use your hands to form the chocolate into balls and do so quickly so the chocolate doesn't melt. Place the chocolate balls or truffles on a baking sheet that has been lined with parchment paper or wax paper to prevent the chocolate from sticking to the pan. Do the same with the remaining chocolate and make sure you make chocolate balls of the same size.
-
If the chocolate starts to melt as you work by hand, try sprinkling and dusting your hands with cocoa powder, or wet your hands in cold water and dry them before reprocessing.
-
You can also re-cool the chocolate in the refrigerator if necessary.
Step 6. Coat the prepared truffles
Roll the truffles over the cocoa powder, chopped nuts, meses, or any other ingredient of your choice as a layer for your truffles. Make sure all parts are evenly coated.
Step 7. Save the truffles that have been made
If you're not eating them right away, store the truffles in an airtight container, then refrigerate them. Since truffles contain cream, they shouldn't be left out too long at room temperature.
Method 2 of 2: Homemade Chocolate Bar
Step 1. Prepare the necessary materials
To make chocolate bars, you will need:
- 250 grams of cocoa butter
- 250 grams of cocoa powder
- 120 milliliters of honey, maple syrup or agave syrup to sweeten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Step 2. Melt the cocoa butter and sweetener
Place the cocoa butter and sweetener (either honey, maple syrup or agave syrup) in a bowl. Microwave over high heat until the chocolate butter is completely melted, then stir until everything is evenly distributed and creamy.
Step 3. Add cocoa powder and vanilla
Stir until the mixture is evenly distributed and there are no lumps of cocoa powder remaining.
Step 4. Pour the chocolate mixture into the mould
You can use candy molds or make chocolate bars by pouring them into the bottom of a small baking dish, such as a bread pan.
Step 5. Cool the chocolate
Allow the chocolate to harden at room temperature, or store it in the refrigerator for faster cooling. If you are making chocolate bars, mold the chocolate into pieces first so that later the chocolate can be cut easily.
Step 6. Remove the chocolate from the mould
Remove the chocolate from the candy molds, or cut the chocolate into sticks. Store the chocolate in the refrigerator if you are not going to eat it right away.
Step 7. Now your chocolate bar is done
Tips
- Store the chocolate in a box and decorate the box with a ribbon before you give it to someone on Valentine's Day (and of course, chocolate can make a great birthday gift!)
- Use dark chocolate (dark chocolate), milk chocolate and white chocolate to make your chocolate more colorful.
- Try experimenting with different ingredients.
Warning
- If you want to sprinkle the meses on top of the chocolate, sprinkle it before you cool the chocolate or the meses won't stick to the chocolate. As opposed to sprinkling meses, if you want to decorate your chocolate with icing sugar, you'll need to decorate it after the chocolate has cooled.
- Before eating chocolate, take it out of the fridge and let it sit. The chocolates can be too cold and too hard to bite.
