Not only crunchy, crunchy and tasty, but more than that, potato chips are a very special snack. While potato chips are certainly not something you should eat every day, by making your own potato chips, you'll know what you're putting in the ingredients, and what's not. What's more, there are many different ways to make potato chips. Below you will find three different ways!
Ingredients
Fry
- 4 russet potatoes (a type of potato originating from the United States with white flesh, more starchy, starchy texture when cooked, and suitable for baked, baked, and fried potatoes)
- 1/4 L cooking oil
- 3 tbsp salt
- Additional condiments such as cayenne pepper, curry powder, etc.
Baking in the Oven
- 4 russet potatoes
- 4 tbsp butter (melted)
- Coarse salt to taste
Baking in the Microwave
- Some potatoes
- Salt and other additional seasonings (optional)
- Olive oil (optional)
Step
Method 1 of 3: Baking Potato Chips in the Oven
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 500 degrees F (260 degrees C)
Step 2. Cut your potatoes using a fruit and vegetable cutter/slicer or a special food processor for chopping/slicing for best results
A fruit and vegetable slicer/slicer and a food processor will make your potato wedges perfect, but if you're really in a pinch, you can also use a knife to cut the potatoes.
Step 3. Once your potatoes are cut, place the potato wedges on a paper towel to absorb the moisture from the potatoes
Step 4. Lightly grease your grill pan with butter or oil then arrange the potato wedges in neat rows along the pan
Step 5. Grease potato wedges with melted butter
Step 6. Place the baking sheet onto the center rack of the oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes, until the edges of the potatoes turn golden brown
Step 7. Remove the potatoes from the oven and sprinkle with salt to taste
Method 2 of 3: Frying Potato Chips
Step 1. Slice the potatoes to the thickness you want
You can cut the potatoes by hand, but it will be much more efficient - and possibly more effective - if you cut the potatoes using:
- Food processor slicing attachment (a food processor that is similar to a blender in some ways and is equipped with a fruit and vegetable cutter)
- Fruit and vegetable slicer/slicer (be careful when using it!)
Step 2. Add 3 tablespoons of salt to a large bowl of water and soak the potato wedges in the salted water for half an hour
After the potatoes have soaked for 30 minutes, rinse them in a colander, then rinse again and allow to dry.
Step 3. Choose the type of oil you will use for frying
While you can choose vegetable oil, safflower oil (oil that comes from pressing safflower/saffron seeds), corn oil, or peanut oil, more and more people are now turning to olive oil because it does not contain unsaturated fats. lots of oil) is an underrated method for cooking potato chips, but it's a good idea if you can use the healthiest type of oil.
Step 4. Heat the oil in a frying pan or large skillet until it reaches about 350-375 degrees F (177-190 degrees C)
Use liter of oil optimally. The minimum amount of oil you can use for frying is 2.5 cm above the bottom of your frying pan.
- Use a candy thermometer (the type of thermometer used to measure the temperature of the oil used for frying) to check the temperature of your oil. If you don't have a candy thermometer, dip the end of a wooden spoon into the oil and wait for oil bubbles to appear around the tip of the spoon.
- Another way to check the temperature of the oil without using a thermometer is to fry a small piece of white bread. Bread will turn golden at 320 degrees F after 30 seconds; 355 degrees F after 15 seconds; and 375 degrees F after 10 seconds.
Step 5. Fry your potatoes in small batches and remove as soon as they start turning golden brown in color
Frying all the potatoes at once can lower the temperature of the oil very quickly.
Step 6. Once removed, place the chips on a plate that has been lined with paper towels to absorb the oil
You can also season it right away if you want.
Step 7. Done
Method 3 of 3: Baking Potato Chips in the Microwave
Step 1. Slice the potatoes using a fruit and vegetable cutter/slicer or a food processor to get the same thickness
For best results, cut your potatoes into slices about 0.3-0.6cm thick.
Step 2. Soak potato slices in water to remove excess starch content
Another way you can use is to put the potato slices in a container filled with running water and rinse until the water is not cloudy and the potatoes are clean. After that, let the potatoes dry.
If you want to salt the potato chips, add about 3 tablespoons of salt to the water you used to soak the potatoes so that the final result will be quite salty
Step 3. Remove excess potato moisture by placing the potato slices on a clean cloth/cloth or paper towel and pressing lightly
Water is the enemy in this process, so make sure you remove as much water as possible before putting the potatoes in the microwave.
Step 4. Place the potatoes on a plate and cover them with a paper towel
Make sure the potato slices don't touch each other.
Step 5. Put the potato wedges in the microwave for 3 minutes on full power
Step 6. Remove the potatoes from the microwave, turn the potato wedges over, and place them in the microwave again for 3 minutes at 50% power
Step 7. Remove the potatoes from the microwave, turn the potato wedges over, and bake for 1 minute at 50% power
Bake until the potatoes are crispy, and golden brown in the middle.
Step 8. Season with additional seasonings if you wish
Tips
- Try to fry one chip before you fry all of them.
- Cut the potatoes really thin so that the end result can be like the potato chips that are often sold in stores.
Alternative Method
Use a mini fryer that comes with a lid to ensure better safety
Warning
- Potato chips will get hot after frying, so be careful when eating.
- Prioritize safety when frying.
