The cherry pie has a sweet and sour taste at the same time and is a summer favorite. Be sure to use "pie cherries" also known as sour cherries for the best-tasting cherry pie. Cherries for pies are usually sold in cans and packaged in water, and can be found in the pastry section of any grocery store.
Ingredients
- Two pie crusts for one 8-inch (20 cm) pie
- 16 ounces (450 grams) seedless red sour cherries, packed in water, do not drain
- 2 tablespoons corn flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon almond extract
- A few drops of red food coloring
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, optional
Step
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius
Step 2. Prepare two pie crusts for an 8-inch pie
Step 3. Mix cherries, sugar, cornstarch, almond extract and red food coloring
Step 4. Pour into the prepared pie crust
Step 5. Sprinkle with a little butter or margarine
Step 6. Cover again with 1 pie crust
Step 7. Twist the edges of the pie crust to cover
Step 8. Make a slit cut on top of the pie crust
Step 9. Bake for 40 to 60 minutes or until light brown
The pie filling will bubble through the gaps in the top when the pie is finished baking.
