Want to add a bit of a challenge to your next Skyrim game? Why not try playing a vampire? Even though you will be hated by your fellow humans and will not stand the sun, you will gain tremendous magical abilities and powers at night. Read Step 1 below to learn how to expose yourself to the disease that leads to vampirism, as well as how to control the disease, once it's caught.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Becoming a Normal Vampire
Step 1. Spread the disease "Sanguinare Vampiris" to yourself
This is the disease that will lead you to vampirism. You can get infected if you are attacked by vampire enemies. Every time you are attacked with vampire physical weapons and the "Vampiric Drain" spell there is a 10% chance of you contracting the disease.
Morvarth's Lair is one of the easiest places to catch Sanguinare Vampires, because the open passages in the cave hold a number of low-class vampires. You can allow yourself to be attacked several times before dying, which increases your chances of getting infected. Other locations include Bloodlet Throne, Haemar's Shame, Fellglow Keep, and Broken Fang Cave
Step 2. Make sure you are not immune to this disease
If you are exposed to the lycanthropy virus (a werewolf), you will be immune to Sanguinare Vampiris. Using Hircine's Ring also makes you invulnerable. Characters with Argonians and Wood Elves are less likely to contract vampirism due to their natural resistance to disease.
Step 3. Don't Cure Vampire Sanguinare
This disease takes 72 hours in the game to turn into vampirism. After this period, the player will turn into a vampire.
- You will receive a number of messages and the monitor screen will flash red as you approach the end of the 72 hour period.
- You must be exposed to the sun at least once before the computer will allow you to turn into a vampire.
- Sanguinare Vampire disease can be cured by taking the medicine "Cure Disease" or by praying at the altar. Avoid both of these for three days.
Step 4. Use the console code (PC only)
You can quickly become a vampire without being exposed to Sanguine Vampiris, by using cheat codes from the console. Open a console window by pressing the ~ key.
Type player.setrace playerraceracevampire and press Enter. For example, if you are playing as Khajit, type player.setrace khajitracevampire
Part 2 of 3: Becoming a Vampire Lord
Step 1. Get Dawnguard
This is an expansion software for Skyrim, and is needed if you want to access the ability to become a Vampire Lord. Dawnguard can run on any computer system capable of running Skyrim. Vampire Lords have very different weaknesses against frost and fire spells, compared to Skyrim's standard vampirism.
Vampire Lords can transform into terrifying winged monsters. You will be able to cast Blood Magic and various other powerful vampire abilities
Step 2. Do the Dawnguard quest
After you install the Dawnguard expansion software, the guards and innkeepers will start talking about a group of vampire hunters. This marks the start of the Dawnguard quest. You must go to Fort Dawnguard which is located in the southeast corner of the map, east of Riften.
Step 3. Start the quest titled "Awakening"
After talking to Dawnguard, you will get this quest, which sends you to Dimhollow Crypt. Once there, find and meet the vampire Serana, who will ask the player to escort her to her father's castle at Castle Volkihar.
Step 4. Take Serana home
Take Serena to Castle Volkihar which is located west of Solitude. Return Serana to Lord Harkon and as a reward he will offer the player to transform into a Vampire Lord. This is your first chance to become a Vampire Lord, if you like, but there are still two more opportunities later if you refuse at this point.
- In the "Chasing Echoes" quest, Serana offers to transform the player into a Vampire Lord. This was because living beings would normally not be able to enter Soul Cairn.
- After defeating Harkon and completing the "Kindred Judgment" quest which is the last quest in Dawnguard, players can ask Serana to transform the player into a Vampire Lord.
Step 5. Use the console code (PC only)
If you don't like going through the quest path to become a Vampire Lord, you can activate this incarnation ability via a cheat code on the console. Open a console window by pressing the ~ key.
- If you're not an ordinary vampire, incarnate yourself via the command code at the end of the previously accessed section, first.
- Enter the following command code to grant you the ability to transform into a Vampire Lord: player.addspell 300283b. Then, type player.addspell 301462a to access the Vampire Lord's signature spells.
Part 3 of 3: Living As a Vampire
Step 1. Balance all your positive and negative effects
Every 24 hours after you transform into a vampire, you will progress to the next "Stage" of vampirism. There are four possible stages, complete with various bonus upgrades and negative effects. Drinking blood will always return you to Stage One.
- Each stage will further increase your immunity to conditions and/or frost spells (Frost), but will also increase your vulnerability to fire spells (Fire).
- The damage you receive from sun exposure will increase with each stage.
- Each stage gives you access to more and more vampire spells, while increasing your vampire powers.
- The NPC's attitude towards you will become more hostile as the stages progress, to the point of attacking without cause in Stage Four.
Step 2. Night roam only
The sun's rays will hurt you, especially in the vampire stage and to hide from public view.
Step 3. Eat to quench the thirst for blood
If you want to avoid most of the negative effects of vampirism, you must eat blood regularly. If you're playing the standard game Skyrim, you can eat people who are sleeping by stealthily approaching and pressing the interaction button, as in Pickpocketing. In this case, another option will appear, which will allow you to “Eat” (Feed).
- If you play Dawnguard, you can eat from a person who is awake, having previously cast the Vampire's Seduction spell.
- This vampire-style eating action will make the NPC who sees it become wild and will demand a ransom of 40 Gold if you get caught.
- Eating your partner or lover is one of the easiest ways to manage your bloodlust.
Step 4. Cure your vampirism
If you're tired of being a vampire, you can do special quests to turn things around. First of all, ask any bartender about any gossip or rumors, and he'll be sure to tell you about Falion, a character who studies vampires. You can find Falion in Morthal.
- Falion will tell you that vampirism can be cured with a filled Black Soul Gem. Fill up the Black Soul Gem by casting the Soul Trap spell on a human-type enemy before defeating the enemy. Falion is willing to sell empty Black Soul Gems if needed.
- Give the Gem of Souls to Falion and he will cure your vampirism. This can be repeated as many times as you like, as long as you have the Black Soul Gem filled.
Step 5. Cure your vampirism via console code (PC only)
If you're unable to access the required quest but desperately want to cure your vampirism, use a cheat code on the console and turn things around instantly. Open a console window by pressing the ~ key.
Type player.addspell 301462a and press Enter. Then type showracemenu to change the race of your character. The status of vampirism will soon be cured
Warning
- Curing vampirism can be very difficult and time-consuming. Save your game before transforming into a vampire.
- You can't be a werewolf and a vampire at the same time. For every werewolf character, his lycanthropy condition will heal once he becomes a vampire.
