You can go to the Nether in Minecraft using the Nether Portal. The portal is made of obsidian stone, which is one of the most difficult materials to mine in the game. You can mine obsidian and build portals using a diamond pickaxe. If you don't have a diamond pickaxe, you can use the "mold" to make Portal structures without having to mine. The Nether Portal is in all versions of Minecraft.

Method 1 of 2: Using a Diamond Pickaxe
Step 1. Make a diamond pickaxe
You need a diamond pickaxe to mine obsidian. You need three diamonds and two sticks to make a diamond pickaxe.

Step 2. Fill several buckets with water
You have to pour water on the lava to make obsidian. One bucket of water can create a block of obsidian. You'll need a minimum of ten obsidian blocks, and you'll need to have a large amount of water ready in case anything goes wrong. So, prepare the supplies.
Step 3. Look for lava
You have to find lava to turn into obsidian. Lava is usually deep underground, although you can find lava by chance anywhere in the world. You'll most likely find lava on levels 1 through 10 above the bedrock, as all air pockets have been replaced by lava at this level.
Step 4. Pour water on the lava block
This will turn the lava into obsidian. Repeat this step until the top layer of the lava pool is covered with obsidian. Don't mine it just yet, as the lava at the bottom can burn the obsidian you mine before you can retrieve it.
Step 5. Take the water source block using an empty bucket
That way, the obsidian underneath will be exposed.
Step 6. Mine the first obsidian block near the water
You need 10 obsidian to make a portal. Rinse and repeat the bucket of water trick as needed.
- Keep in mind that it takes a very long time to mine obsidian (9.4 seconds). The time can be accelerated using the "efficiency" spell. Once the block is mined, the surrounding water will flow into the empty space, which will turn the profit beneath it into obsidian.
- If you are standing in the water, be careful not to let the flow of water wash you into the lava.
Step 7. Create an outline for your Nether Portal
Maybe you should build a portal frame near your house so you can easily take your supplies with you when you return from the Nether. The template requires a minimum of 4x5 blocks, but you don't need corners, so you only need a minimum of 10 blocks.
Place two obsidian blocks side by side on the ground, then place a catch block at each end. Place three obsidian blocks in the column of each container block. Place one container block at the top of each column. Place two more obsidian blocks between the top holders. Now you can get rid of the container blocks to create a cornerless outline. The empty area on the inside will be 2x3 blocks in size
Step 8. Light up the portal using Flint and Steel
Portals can be ignited with any object that can spark fire, but Chert and Steel are the most reliable options. When activated, the center of the portal will glow with a purple color.
Step 9. Stand on the portal for four seconds
You will be taken to the Nether after four seconds. You can cancel this teleport (travel across space) at any time by walking out of the portal. A portal to return will be created in the Nether where you entered it.
Always carry Chert and Steel into the Nether. The portal to return can be extinguished by the Ghast so you must reactivate it
Method 2 of 2: Creating a Portal with a Mold
Step 1. Use this method if you don't have a diamond pickaxe
You can create a Nether Portal without a diamond pickaxe by building an artificial waterfall and using a lava bucket to make an obsidian skeleton. All you need is a regular pickaxe, a few buckets to carry water, and some lava.
Step 2. Take four buckets of water and a pile of cobblestones
To make a waterfall, you will need four buckets of water and 24 cobblestones.
Step 3. Place two cobblestone blocks on the surface, spaced two blocks apart
These will serve as the bottom two corners for your portal outline. This will be the "front" of your printout.
Step 4. Dig a trench four blocks behind the previous two
The base and end of the trench should line up with the two blocks you have placed. The depth of the trench is only one block.
Step 5. Build a cobblestone wall behind a 4x4 moat
When building, make sure you are standing on the wall, or do something else so that you are at the top of the wall.
If constructed correctly, the wall will line up with the two blocks you have created, with a moat separated
Step 6. Place an additional cobblestone block hanging off the end of the wall
Stick a block of cobblestone at each end of the top of the wall, so that the length of the top of the wall will be six blocks.
Step 7. Place the four hanging cobblestones along the back of the wall
Now the top of the wall will be a platform containing six blocks in front and four blocks behind.
Step 8. Turn your body towards the trench and use the water bucket to pour the water
Pour four buckets of water along the edge of the front of the wall, parallel to the trench below. If you do it right, a never-ending waterfall will start flowing into the ditch.
Step 9. Take ten buckets of lava
In total, you'll need ten buckets of lava to build the skeleton. You don't need to get ten buckets separately, but you'll have to make several trips later to get them.
You can find rivers and lava lakes in the world at low levels. Sometimes you can also find lava at ground level
Step 10. Place the bucket filled with lava between the two cobblestone blocks on the front
Because it comes into contact with the waterfall behind it, the lava will instantly turn into obsidian. This will form an obsidian block between the two cobblestone blocks you have created.
Step 11. Make another obsidian next to the first obsidian
This is the bottom part of your obsidian Portal framework.
Step 12. Use the lava to create columns three blocks wide on each side
Build this column on top of the two existing cobblestone blocks. Use a lava bucket so you can quickly build obsidian columns.
Step 13. Place a cobblestone block at the top of each column
These are the two corners of the portal at the top.
Step 14. Place the two remaining lava buckets between the cobblestone blocks at the top
This is used to create the top of your obsidian Portal skeleton. Now your Nether Portal is complete.
Step 15. Turn on the portal
To light up the portal, use Chert and Steel. When the portal is turned on, the center will glow with a purple color. You will be taken to the Nether by standing inside the portal for four seconds.
If you wish, you can now destroy your mold structure
Tips
- Don't use a bed in the Nether as it can blow you up.
- Always be careful with everything in the Nether. If you hit one Zombie Pigman, all Zombies will chase you.
- Don't stay too far from the portal. That way, you can immediately jump into the portal when you're in danger.
- Always carry chert and steel, because your portal can be extinguished by Ghast.
- Make sure you're prepared with armor, weapons and food!
