This wikiHow teaches you how to scan a QR code with your iPhone or iPad camera. A QR code is a patterned image that is black and white. These codes usually store certain information and data, such as movie tickets and user profiles on social media applications.

Method 1 of 5: Using iPhone or iPad Camera

Step 1. Enable the scanning feature on your iPhone or iPad

• To scan a QR code with your iPhone or iPad camera, you must update your iPhone or iPad operating system to iOS 11 or the latest iOS version.

• Open the Settings app

• Move the screen down and tap Camera. This option is at the bottom of the Settings page.

Step 2. Open the Camera app on your iPhone or iPad

You can also swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center. After that, tap on the Camera app icon

Step 3. Point the camera at the QR code

You'll need to point your iPhone or iPad's camera until the entire QR code appears on the screen. Make sure no part of the QR code is truncated.

If your iPhone or iPad uses the front camera, tap the camera icon with the arrow at the bottom right of the screen to use the rear camera

Step 4. Wait for the QR code to be scanned

When the QR code is scanned successfully, a gray notification showing text such as "Open [website] in Safari" will appear at the top of the screen.

If the QR code contains the address of a website (website), scanning it will open the website in the Safari app.

Method 2 of 5: Using the Wallet App

Step 1. Open the Wallet app

The Wallet app can only be used to scan QR codes in the form of “tickets,” such as movie tickets or boarding passes. Scanning a QR code with the Wallet application will save the data contained in the code inside this application

Step 2. Tap the Scan Code button

It's at the bottom of the page and the text is blue.

Step 3. Point the iPhone or iPad camera at the QR code

When pointing the camera at the QR code, a smaller and larger box will appear on the screen.

Step 4. Point the camera until the entire QR code fills the box

The Wallet app will scan the QR code and add the ticket automatically.

• If the QR code does not contain a ticket, the Wallet app will display the message “No Pass Available for This Code.”
• After scanning the ticket, you have to tap the button “ + ” at the top right of the screen and tapping Scan Code to Add a Pass.

Method 3 of 5: Using Facebook Messenger

Step 1. Open the Facebook Messenger app

The app icon is a blue text balloon containing a white horizontal lightning bolt.

This tab is at the bottom right of the page.

Step 4. Point the camera at the Messenger QR code

Step 5. Point the camera until the entire QR code fills the circle

After that, your iPhone or iPad will scan the QR code and retrieve the profile information stored in the code.

• You can use the scanner feature in Messenger to quickly add friends. You can tap ADD IN MESSENGER (ADD IN MESSENGER) after scanning someone else's QR code.
• You can also tap My Code (My Code) located at the top of the scanner screen to allow others to scan your code.

Step 1. Open web.whatsapp.com in your computer browser

If your iPhone vibrates, it means that your iPhone has scanned the QR code and you can open a WhatsApp conversation on your computer.
