This wikiHow teaches you how to delete messages in a Facebook Messenger conversation. You can delete one message at a time from the mobile version of Messenger or the desktop computer version, but you can't delete multiple messages at once. Keep in mind that when you delete it, the message is only deleted from the conversation that was on your side. The other person you're having a conversation with can still read the message, unless he or she also deletes it.

Method 1 of 2: On Mobile
Step 1. Launch Facebook Messenger
Tap the Messenger icon, which is a blue speech bubble with a white lightning bolt in it. If you are logged in to Messenger, a list of your current conversations will be opened.
If you are not signed in to Messenger, enter your mobile number and password when prompted to continue
Step 2. Select the desired conversation
Tap the conversation whose content you want to delete. You may have to scroll down if you want to delete an old conversation.
- If Messenger opens a conversation that you don't want to check, first tap the "Back" button in the upper-left corner.
- If the desired conversation is not there, tap the tab Home to open the conversation list.
Step 3. Tap and hold the selected message
Find the message you want to delete, then tap and hold on the message. A menu will be displayed.
On iPhone, this menu is at the bottom of the screen. If you're using Android, there's a menu window in the middle of the screen
Step 4. Tap Delete
This option is in the menu.
Step 5. Tap Delete when prompted
This will remove the message from the conversation on your end, although the person you're having the conversation with will still be able to read the message.
Step 6. Delete all conversations
If you want to delete all conversations on your mobile device, do the following:
- Find the conversation you want to delete.
- Tap and hold on the conversation until a pop-up menu appears.
- Tap Delete (Android) or Delete Conversation (iPhone).
- Tap Delete Conversation when requested.
Method 2 of 2: On Desktop Computer
Step 1. Visit the Facebook site
Launch a web browser and visit If you are logged into your Facebook account, the News Feed page will be opened.
If you're not logged in, enter your email address (or mobile number) and password to continue
Step 2. Click the “Messenger” icon
The icon is a conversation bubble with a lightning bolt in the center. It's in the top right of the Facebook page. A drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 3. Click See All in Messenger
This link is in the lower-left corner of the drop-down menu. Doing so will launch the Facebook Messenger application.
Step 4. Select the desired conversation
Find the message in the conversation that you want to delete, then click the conversation.
You may have to scroll down in the conversation column on the left to find old conversations
Step 5. Hover the mouse cursor over the message
Navigate to the message you want to delete. When hovering the mouse over a message, a smiley face icon appears and a three-dot icon appears next to the message.
Step 6. Click
This button is located to the right of messages sent to you, or to the left of messages sent. A pop-up option will be displayed.
Step 7. Click Delete
It's next to the icon.
Step 8. Click the red Delete button when prompted
Once you do, the message will be removed from the conversation on your side, although the person you're having the conversation with will still be able to read the message.
Step 9. Delete all conversations
If you want to delete all conversations, do the following:
- Select the desired conversation.

Click the gear icon
in the upper right of the conversation.
- You may first need to click on the "i" icon on the right.
- Click Delete in the drop-down menu.
- Click Delete when requested.
