This wikiHow teaches you how to delete messages on Facebook through the Facebook Messenger app and the Facebook website.

Method 1 of 3: Via iPhone
Step 1. Open the Facebook Messenger app
This app is marked by a blue speech bubble icon with a lightning logo and a white background.
If you are not logged in to Messenger, type in the phone number in the appropriate field, then tap “ Continue ” (“Continue”) and enter the account password.
Step 2. Touch the Home tab (“Home”)
This tab is marked by a home icon and appears in the lower-left corner of the screen.
If Messenger immediately displays the conversation, touch the “ Back ” (“Back”) in the upper left corner of the screen first.
Step 3. Swipe the screen until you find the conversation you want to delete
If the conversation is long, you may need to swipe the screen a few times.
Step 4. Swipe the conversation towards the left
After that, a selection bar will appear on the right side of the conversation box.
Step 5. Touch the Delete button (“Delete”)
It's a red button in the far-right corner of the screen.
Step 6. Touch Delete Conversation (“Delete Conversation”)
It's at the top of the pop-up window that appears after you touch the “ Delete " ("Delete"). After that, the conversation will be permanently deleted from the message history.
Method 2 of 3: Via Android Device
Step 1. Open the Facebook Messenger app

Step 3. Swipe the screen until you find the chat you want to delete
Step 4. Touch and hold the chat
After a few seconds, a window with the title " Conversation " ("Conversation") will be displayed.
Step 5. Touch the Delete button (“Delete”)
It's at the top of the " Conversation " window.
Step 6. Touch the Delete Conversation button when prompted
After that, the conversation will be deleted from the Facebook account's message history.
Method 3 of 3: Via Desktop Site
Step 1. Visit the Facebook website
If you are already logged in to your Facebook account, the news feed will appear immediately.
If you're not logged into your account, enter your email address (or phone number) in the field in the upper-right corner of the screen and click “ Login " ("Enter").
Step 2. Click the Messenger icon
This icon looks like a speech bubble with a lightning logo on it and appears in the selection bar in the top right corner of the Facebook page.
Step 3. Click View All in Messenger
This link is at the bottom of the Messenger drop-down menu. Once clicked, Messenger settings will be displayed.
Step 4. Swipe the screen until you find the conversation you want to delete
All conversations are shown on the left side of this page.
Step 5. Hover over the message you want to delete
You can see a small gear icon in the lower right corner of the selected message.
Step 6. Click the ️ icon
After that, a drop-down menu containing several options will be displayed.
Step 7. Click the Delete button (“Delete”)
It's in the middle of the drop-down menu.
Step 8. Click Delete ("Delete") when prompted
You can see this option in the " Delete Conversation " pop-up window. Once clicked, the selected conversation will be deleted from the message history.
