There are times when you want to delete a Facebook conversation when you're done chatting. Currently you can only delete Facebook messages on a computer, but you can archive messages from Facebook mobile so that they are not visible from view until you can delete the message or the entire conversation later. This article will show you how to do it.
Step
Step 1. Open Messages
From the top left corner of each page, tap the Menu icon.
Step 2. Tap the Messages button
In the left column, find the Messages button, then tap it. This will open the conversation history.
Step 3. Find the conversation you want to delete
Scroll down the list until you find it. Tap and hold the message, and a pop-up menu will provide options to archive the thread, mark it as unread, or cancel the operation. Tap "Archive Thread".
The message will disappear from your list
Step 4. Delete the message
When you're on a computer, open your archived conversation by clicking Messages in the left column of the Facebook page, then selecting "Archived" from the menu options.
Step 5. Select the conversation
From the list on the left, select the conversation containing the message you want to remove from the archived conversation. From the Actions menu, select "Delete Message". This will add a checkbox next to each message in the conversation.
Step 6. Mark the messages to be deleted
Click the checkbox to select one or more messages in the conversation, then click the "Delete" button at the bottom of the page.
- Note: to delete an entire conversation, select "Delete Conversation…" from the Action menu instead of "Delete Messages…".
- You will be asked to confirm the deletion. If you are sure, click "Delete Message".
Step 7. Move the conversation from the archive
To bring the conversation back to your mobile device after you've deleted the message, hover over the conversation, and click the little "Unarchive" arrow on the right. The conversation will be returned to your inbox.
Tips
Archiving is useful for revisiting conversations at a later date
Warning
- Once a message or conversation is deleted, it cannot be undone.
- Deleting a message or conversation from the inbox will not delete it from the inboxes of other people involved in the conversation.
