This wikiHow teaches you how to delete an entire message or conversation in the Facebook Messenger app on iPhone and Android smartphones. Deleting a message or conversation from the Messenger application does not necessarily delete the message or conversation from the Messenger application used by the other person or recipient of the message.

Method 1 of 2: Deleting One Message
Step 1. Open Facebook Messenger
Tap the Messenger app icon, which looks like a white lightning bolt inside a blue speech bubble. After that, the main Messenger page will open if you are already signed in to your Messenger account.
If you are not logged in, touch the button “ Continue as [Your Name] ”, or enter the account phone number and password.
Step 2. Make sure you are on the “Home” tab
If Facebook Messenger displays the conversation immediately, tap the " Back " button in the upper left corner of the screen to return to the " Home " tab.
If Messenger displays another tab (eg. People "), touch the tab " Home ” in the shape of a house in the lower-left corner of the screen before continuing.
Step 3. Select a conversation
Touch the chat with the message you want to delete. Once touched, the chat will be opened.
Step 4. Look for the message
Search for the message you want to delete in the conversation.
Step 5. Touch and hold the message
A pop-up menu will appear at the bottom of the screen after a while.
Step 6. Touch Delete
The trash can icon is in the menu at the bottom of the screen.
Step 7. Touch Delete Message when prompted
After that, the message will be removed from the conversation (your side). However, the other person can still see the message unless he deletes it himself.
You can repeat this process for as many messages as you want. However, there is no way to delete multiple messages at once without deleting the entire conversation
Method 2 of 2: Deleting Conversation
Step 1. Open Facebook Messenger

Browse the conversation list until you find the chat you want to delete.

A pop-up menu will appear after a while.
Step 5. Touch Delete Conversation
This option is in the pop-up menu.
On the Android device, touch “ Delete ” on the menu.
Step 6. Touch Delete Conversation when prompted
Once touched, the conversation (in its entirety) will be deleted from your Messenger app.
Keep in mind that other people involved in the conversation will still be able to see the chat, unless they delete it themselves
Tips
- You can also delete messages via the Messenger website.
- Any messages that are deleted on iPhone or Android will also be deleted from the desktop version of your Facebook account.
