Snapchat is a popular social media platform that allows you to send photos, videos or selfies to friends. However, by now Facebook and Instagram have provided the same feature, and you may find Snapchat to be useless and should be removed. To do this, you must use a web browser on your mobile device or computer. So, make sure to know the username and password. If your Snapchat account has been permanently deleted, you won't be able to recover it. So, make sure you don't want to use the account again before starting this process.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Permanently Deleting Account Using Computer
Step 1. Save the data on the phone before you delete the account
If you want to save your account information, profile history and friends list, launch a web browser and visit https://accounts.snapchat.com/accounts/login. Click My Data, then scroll the screen and select Submit Request. When the data is ready, you will receive an email with an attached file that you can download to your computer.
This data will no longer be accessible once the Snapchat account has been deleted. Follow these steps if you want to save and access it again
Step 2. Launch your browser and visit
Unfortunately, the only way you can permanently delete your account is to use a computer, not an app. Run the browser, then click the link to open the account information. After that, sign in using your email and password.
If you forget your password, click Forgot Password to get an email with instructions for resetting your password
Step 3. Click Manage My Account, then select Delete My Account
This deletion option is at the bottom of the list, but easy to find. You are given the opportunity to postpone this decision before deleting your account. So don't worry if you want to change your mind.
Step 4. Enter the username and password again before you click Continue
Snapchat has to confirm the correctness of the account before you do the deletion so you will have to log in one more time. The site may also ask for your phone number if you've previously linked it to a Snapchat account.
If you've previously linked your phone number to the account, enter the 4-digit verification code you received in your phone message
Step 5. Wait for 30 days for the account to be deleted
Snapchat has 30 days if you don't permanently delete your account. Within that one month, your name, profile, and Snap history will still be accessible.
- Your account remains, but your friends can't interact with it.
- Once the account is permanently deleted, you will receive a notification email.
- Once your account is deleted, you can delete the apps that were on your mobile device.
Method 2 of 3: Deleting the Account of a Child or Deceased Person
Step 1. Visit Snapchat Support using a web browser
If you do not know the username and password of the desired person, you will need to fill out an online form to tell the reason why the account should be deleted. Find Snapchat support at this address
Step 2. Fill in the form giving the reason why the account should be deleted
You will be given several options with various reasons why you should delete the account. If the account belongs to your child, select that option in the menu. If the account owner has died, select this option.
Here, you can also report users for using your mobile number or email address
Step 3. Enter any other required information
In this form, you can enter your name, email address and age, as well as the username for the account. You can also comment in the column provided at the bottom of the form containing any information you would like to add about the account.
If you want to delete the account of a deceased person, you must attach a copy of that person's death certificate
Step 4. Submit the form, and wait for the response email
There's no set timeframe for how long Snapchat's support service will be in contact with you, but you may have to wait up to a week. Always check your email for the latest information on Snapchat support's handling of your issue.
If Snapchat support asks you to attach another document, you'll receive an email notification
Method 3 of 3: Reactivate Snapchat Account
Step 1. Save your username and password just in case
Even if you're sure you want to permanently delete your account, you may want to change your mind. Save your username and password in a safe location, in case you want to reactivate the account.
Step 2. Log in to your Snapchat account if the process has not exceeded 30 days
If you have deleted your account and change your mind, all of your information can still be recovered before 30 days have elapsed from the account deletion process. Do this by downloading the Snapchat app to your mobile device, and logging back in using your email and password.
- If you've forgotten how long it's been deleting your account, try logging in and see if it's still accessible.
- It may take up to 24 hours for you to reactivate your account.
Step 3. Create a new account if you have deleted it for more than 30 days
Unfortunately, if 30 days have passed since the account was deleted, you will not be able to restore the account. If you want to use Snapchat again, create a new account using your email address and password.
