Method 1 of 2: On iPhone
Step 1. Open WhatsApp
This app is marked by a green icon with a phone receiver and a white speech bubble.
If this is your first time opening WhatsApp on your device, you will need to set up the app first
Step 2. Touch Settings
It's in the lower-right corner of the screen.
If WhatsApp immediately displays the chat thread, first tap the " Back " button in the upper left corner of the screen
Step 3. Touch your profile name
The name is at the top of the " Settings " page.
Step 4. Touch the profile photo
The photo is in the upper-left corner of the "Edit Profile" page. After that, the profile photo will load in full screen view.
Step 5. Touch Edit
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Step 6. Touch Choose Photo
This option is at the bottom of the screen.
Alternatively, select Take Photo to take a photo of yourself via the WhatsApp application directly
Step 7. Touch the album containing the photos
If you don't know the album or photo storage location you want to use, just tap “ Camera Roll ”.
- iCloud Photo Library users will see the option “ All Photos ", and not " Camera Roll ”.
- If this is your first time uploading a photo, tap “ OK ” when asked to allow WhatsApp to access the device camera and photo album first.
- If you take a new photo, touch the shutter button at the bottom of the screen to take the photo.
Step 8. Touch the photo
After that, the photo will be selected as the new profile photo.
If you take a new photo, touch “ Use Photo ” in the lower right corner of the screen.
Step 9. Touch Choose
It's in the lower-right corner of the screen. The selected photo will be set as the new WhatsApp profile photo.
If you need to change the dimensions of the photo, touch and drag the photo to change its position or slide two fingers in opposite directions to enlarge the photo
Method 2 of 2: On Android Device
Step 1. Open WhatsApp

It's in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Touch Settings
This option is at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
Step 4. Touch your profile name
The name is displayed at the top of the "Settings" page.
Step 5. Touch the profile photo
The photo is in the upper-left corner of the "Edit Profile" page. After that, the photo will load in full screen view.
Step 6. Touch the pencil icon
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen. A menu with photo editing options will load afterwards.
Step 7. Touch Gallery
This option is the first option at the top of the pop-up menu. Once the option is touched, you can select a photo already on the device as a profile photo.
You can also select Camera to take a new photo
Step 8. Touch the album containing the photos
You can choose All photos ” to see all photos on the device if you don't know which album to open.
- If this is your first time uploading a photo, tap “ OK ” when asked to allow WhatsApp to access the device camera and photo album first.
- If you take a new photo, touch the shutter button at the top of the screen to take the photo.
Step 9. Touch the photo
After that, the photo will be displayed in the editing interface. You can touch and drag the photo to change its position.
For recently taken photos, touch the tick icon to continue
Step 10. Touch OK
It's in the lower-right corner of the screen. The selected photo (or recently taken photo) will now be set as the new WhatsApp profile photo.
