The process of setting Chrome to be your default browser depends on the operating system you are using. While you can make Chrome your default browser through the settings menu, it's best to do so through system settings so that the changes don't change. You can change the default browser on Windows, macOS, and Android. If you have an iOS device, your iDevice will need to be jailbroken first. To change the search engine, go to Settings > Safari > Search Engine and choose between Google, Yahoo or Bing.

Method 1 of 5: Windows 10
Step 1. Install Google Chrome if it is not already on your computer
Chrome must be installed before it can be made the default browser. You can download Chrome by visiting google.com/chrome/ in your browser and clicking the "Download" button. Run the downloaded installer to install Chrome
Step 2. Open the Start menu and click or tap "Settings"

Step 3. Select "System" from the Settings Home menu
Various system settings will appear on the screen.
Step 4. Click or tap on the “Default apps” label
You'll find it in the left-hand menu of the System window.
Step 5. Select the “Web browser” option
The browsers installed on the computer will be displayed.
Step 6. Select Google Chrome to set it as default browser
Chrome will automatically open links and HTML files.
Step 7. Use Control Panel if your settings are not saved
Some users stated that Windows did not save the changes made, or that Chrome did not appear. If this is the case, open Control Panel and follow the steps in the following section.

Method 2 of 5: Windows 8, 7, and Vista
Step 1. Install Chrome
Chrome needs to be installed before it can be set as default browser. You can download it at google.com/chrome/.
Step 2. Open Control Panel
You can find it in the Start menu. In Windows 8, right-click the Start button and select "Control Panel," or type "control panel" in the search box.
Step 3. Select "Default Programs"
"If you are in the Category label, click the " Programs " category first.
Step 4. Click "Set your default programs"
You need to wait a moment while the program list loads.
Step 5. Select "Google Chrome" from the list of programs
Scroll down to find it.
Step 6. Click "Set this program as default"
This option will make Chrome the default program for all web links and HTML files.
Method 3 of 5: macOS
Step 1. Install Google Chrome if it's not already on your computer
Google Chrome needs to be installed before it can be set to default browser. You can install it by visiting google.com/chrome/ and clicking the " Download " button at the top of the screen.
Step 2. Run the Chrome installer once downloaded
To install Chrome, click the DMG file in the Downloads folder, then drag the Google Chrome icon to the Applications folder. You can delete the DMG file after the installation is complete.
Step 3. Click the Apple menu and select "System Preferences"
" Once Chrome is installed, you can set it as your default browser via the System Preferences menu.
Step 4. Select the “General” option
You can find it at the top of the "System Preferences" menu.
Step 5. Click the "Default web browser" menu and select Google Chrome
This option will set Chrome as the default browser for all web links and HTML files.
Method 4 of 5: Android
Step 1. Make sure Chrome is installed on the device
Chrome must be installed before it can be set as default browser. You can install it from Google Play Store.
Step 2. Open the Settings app
Go to your Home screen or App Drawer to find it. Open the App Drawer by tapping the gear button at the bottom of the Home screen.
Step 3. Select "Apps" or "Application manager
"' All applications installed on your Android device will be displayed.
Step 4. Find and tap on the current default browser
You need to find the browser that currently opens your links. If the app is installed on your device, you may need to switch to the “All” label in the apps list.
Most default browsers are named " Browser " "Internet."
Step 5. Tap on “Clear defaults” button
You have to scroll down on the app page to find it. For 6.0+, you need to tap on "Open by default" first.
Step 6. Tap the link in the email or webpage
Now, you need to find a web link or online file. You can tap the link in the email, or open your browser and click the link.
Step 7. Select “Google Chrome” from the list of apps
You will see all the browsers installed in the list of available applications. Tap Google Chrome.
Step 8. Select "Always" to make Chrome the default browser
Now Chrome will open all the links and HTML files opened on your Android device.
Method 5 of 5: iOS
Step 1. Jailbreak your iOS device
This is the only way to set another browser as the default iOS device browser. Jailbreak is usually not possible if you are running the latest version of iOS. For more guidance, read How to Jailbreak iPhone.
Step 2. Open Cydia on the jailbroken iOS device
Cydia is a package manager for jailbroken iOS devices and allows you to install various applications specific to jailbroken devices. Cydia can be found on the Home screen after the jailbreak process is complete.
Step 3. Tap the Search option and search for "Open in Chrome"
" This way, you tinker with the system settings of your iOS device and allow you to change the default browser. You can do this through the default Cydia repository.
Step 4. Tap the “Install” button to download and install the customization
The iOS device will reboot to complete the installation process.
Step 5. Open the Settings app on the device
"Open in Chrome" will add a new option to your Settings app.
Step 6. Make sure that "Open in Chrome" is enabled
Check the enabled slider in the "Open in Chrome" section of the Settings app. Chrome will be set to default browser.
Step 7. Tap the link to open Chrome
Once "Open in Chrome" is enabled, all links tapped will be opened using Chrome. This applies to links in email, SMS, apps, websites, and other links.
